How did he not displace 2 the once he moved to second? DJ had to play 3rd and Gio had to play SS to accommodate it. Id accept trading Gio, but I think Torres returns the best assets in a trade. I think he boosted his stock a little once the move was made. DJ is a gold glove second baseman, he's miles better than Torres. Not sure where you get the idea he's not good.
True. I guess I just factor in that Urshela sucked and sucked in the field as compared to how he played his first two years so I don't view that as a big deal. Tough to blame anyone a ton for re-signing DJ but man. If he's not hitting .290/.300 he's pretty useless.
If there's one guy I want of this team it's Sanchez. A very close second is Gallo. I hate that fucking guy. I think he fucking sucks. The rest of the guys that need to go include Gardner and Odor.
Your everyday starting catcher definitely cannot be such a liability that he can't play in a playoff game and you need to carry three just to potentially get him an at bat.
Exactly. If he could hit I could live with it but he's been worthless at the plate for almost 3 years now. And Gallo is the poster child of what I hate about this team. All or nothing and with him it's mostly nothing.
Would somebody mind waking up Brian Cashman and letting him know that Free Agency is roaring along without him?
Eh as much as Cashman sucks I’m sure it’s not his fault they haven’t signed anyone. Hal is cheap and doesn’t want to push the luxury tax.
I can’t believe they brought him back. As OK as he could be as a backup catcher, he seems to be firmly apart of a shitty lazy culture that’s become acceptable with the Yankees. They need to let go on these younger players that didn’t turn into the players they thought they were going to be.
That's really sad. So young. I remember him as the "other Williams" along side Bernie who turned out to be a much better player.
Remember when the Yankee outfield for the next decade was supposed to be Roberto Kelly in center, Bernie Williams in left and Gerald Williams in right? All three of them could fly, so it would have been a very interesting outfield to watch.
He is gone. Gio and Nacho for Donaldson and SS Kiner-Falefa. I was down on Sanchez but I liked Gio. The Twins got the better part of this one for sure.
Weird trade. I like IKF though. Contact hitter with a good glove who runs the bases well. They need players like that around the strikeout twins in the lineup. Not sure why the Donaldson/Urshela swap makes much sense but I’d imagine they’ll squeeze what they can out of Donaldson while he only plays 4 times a week with DJ the other two at third and then buy him out next year.
