I still remember Cooper's up and down Raider career. Once he was unhappy it was over. He strikes me as the type of player that would implode as a Jet.
Brandon Marshall probably did too. And Braylon Edwards. I feel like because a Santonio Holmes imploded here, people forget that not a lot of players actually have.
I think this says a lot about what the league knows about Cooper. Good teams don't let top players leave in their prime. Sent from my M2007J20CG using Tapatalk
Cooper isn't worth 20 million. We also gotta remember that Dallas is paying Prescott 52 million this season. Some of the fat had to be cut somewhere to keep their cap in check.
It's team option for 2023 and for 2024, so he could be either dumped or possibly renegotiated next year in case he does not produce. If it was 60 mil guaranteed, I agree, it's a no brainer to decline, but there is a lot of flexibility in his contract, so to me it is not obvious yet whether JD made a right decision or not. A lot will depend on other moves he makes. I do know it's not that easy to get a guy of Amari's caliber on the roster, and he was there for a 5th round pick and basically what amounts to 1 year, and slightly above WR franchise tag money with team option for next 2.
I can live with whatever. I don't like Cooper. I don't like the fact that he went off on his QB last season following a loss. He's got some nerve when he disappears in games and for stretches of a season. That's the last thing we need to bring into our locker room or for Zach to have to deal with.
When did he get on the QB last season? All I can find is him saying Dak gets all the blame when he shouldn’t.
I read a report the other day that after a loss, Cooper got in Dak's face and called him the "black Cousins" referring to Minnesota's QB and his inability to win or decision-making or something. The short article didn't say which game it was.
The Jets WR situation will be fun to watch for the next month and a half. Elijah Moore and Corey Davis are locked in, but the rest is open really. Crowder, Berrios, and Cole are Free Agents. Denzel Mims is still up in the air on what to expect from him. Plenty of solid free agents and draft picks at WR this year too. I would be happy with re-signing Berrios, but if he chooses to leave for more money: Bring back Crowder. If they can't sign a top guy like Allen Robinson, then use the #10 overall pick on one of the great WR's in the draft. If Joe Douglas does something like that, the Jets WR corp will be very strong headed into 2022.
and OK, I must have missed that part. I cede to you two on that point. The point remains, however that I don't think Cooper is worth $20 million, and I'm hoping as Borat and maybe others have suggested that JD will sign AROB or Chark and then Berrios, and then draft a WR early.
this is somehow the first I’ve ever heard of this. I’m skeptical because it’s purely hearsay but there’s no doubt Cooper’s attitude has come in to question. So did Marshall’s and Braylon’s. Those trades worked nicely.
I just can’t see Allen Robinson choosing to play for the Jets unless we wildly overpay. He’s dealt with so many shit QBs, he’s not going to choose to play with an unproven one. Wouldn’t be shocked at all if he ends up in Buffalo on a crazy team friendly deal. And Chark… a one year wonder coming off major ankle surgery… that does absolutely nothing for me. If you’re not getting a top tier guy like Cooper or Robinson then you might as well bring back Cole, hope you can bring back Berrios and draft your big bodied WR at 10 (London).
Those trades worked nicely because we largely had veteran teams, and a veteran QB with Marshall to keep them in line. We now have a 2nd year QB and largely a rookie/young player roster with few veteran leaders. When one is changing or trying to change the culture, imo it's not wise to bring players in with attitude/character issues. One can do that once the new culture is firmly established and there are strong team leaders, but not before.
He has made several NY references on Twitter and hinted very strongly that he would be willing to play for the Jets. Now it may have been just to get them to enter the bidding to drive up the price for other teams, but I think it's a definitely possibility that he would sign with us. I think I've seen him make complimentary comments about Zach, but may be mistaken.
IMO there isn't a WR or FA worth the #10 pick this year. I love Metcalf but I besides becoming expensive, I don't think he'd fit in here.
