Jets have been oddly tight lipped since JD

I still think that was strategic by Joe Douglas and his staff. If you can convince the Jaguars how great Zach Wilson is, then maybe Trevor Lawrence drops to you at #2. If he doesn't, then you pick the guy you want anyway with Zach at #2. Having Trevor Lawrence as the presumed #1 pick for over two years allowed the Jets to handle the situation as if they had the #1 pick with Lawrence off the board. I had no problems with it.

 

I have met 1 total person that has a problem with the way last year's draft was handled.

No I mean people that were upset because Douglas didn’t trade the pick or at least create the illusion. Yes, they exist.

Do you guys have JD posters in your room? I understand professional courtesy. I understand the NFL draft, and I've participated in a number of deals and negotiations. I didn't suggest anything that wasn't business 101, especially in the NFL. Nobody said there had to be an actual trade partner involved.

If you at least float interest in a potential trade if you "get the right offer", it creates a level of doubt that makes the picks behind you become less valuable. Because the trade partner will worry that they could lose the guy they want by someone leap frogging them with a trade. This means they may not be willing to offer as much. In our case that could have weakened the value of the dolphins pick at #3.

 

Are you suggesting Lance was the 49ers 1st choice for FQB? 2nd Choice? The only way your theory makes sense is if the 49ers moved up and made their offer bc they knew their 1st choice or 2 was going to be available.

 

This is all predicated on you knowing for sure the Niners only wanted one player at 3 when in fact it’s much more likely they wanted at least two. And even then your theory of “we helped the Dolphins” would be flimsy at best.

 

The Jets were too open with the fact that they were taking Wilson. How big of a problem it ultimately was in terms of what other teams would do is open for debate.

But I don’t get where this narrative comes from that Douglas it “tight lipped” about things? Isn’t it also out in the atmosphere that we didn’t like KT from his interview with us?

The Jets are just a typical franchise in terms of what information is released and it’s sensationalized around here as if we’re on the Patriots lockdown plan.

I had read on here somebody say that KT had said he had had a good interview with the Jets.

Of course, that means nothing tbh as all views will get a mention on here at some point.

 

Being tight lipped is all relative. The beat reporters used to have hot lines to CS and scouts and the organization was about as water tight as a colander. It's got progressively better since. Now its probably about right, there aren't many big moves that are in the public domain way ahead of them happening (I don't count Wilson - they had the #2 pick, everyone knew the Jets would be taking the best QB not named Lawrence) and there's as much, if not more, speculation that is way wide of the mark as there is that is right.

 

This is the first time I’ve heard anything about us not liking KT so if that’s true then Douglas is absolutely tight lipped.

National guys are saying we’re gonna spend, beat guys are saying JD is going to be conservative. We’re linked to no one and everyone. I’d say things are a little more tight-lipped around here than they usually are.
