Has to be Chad or Vinny. They are the only two on that list with a winning record as a Jet QB with a positive TD/INT ratio. How sad is that?
These things tend to turn into a how old are you poll. I voted Kenny o . If he played today he would light defenses up. That he played in the era where qbs were fair game and the Jets showed no inclination to protect him gives a him bad rap. Dude could sling it. No other qb the Jets have had could go throw for throw with Marino
That OT game against Marino was epic. And we won. O’Brien to Walker! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Mark Sanchez, helped team to 6 playoff appearances went 4-2. The team was stripped of talent and gave him garbage to work with. O’Brien was a fan favorite but his longevity was mired in losing seasons.
Ken O'Brien played 10 years. The guy had the highest pass rating in the NFL one year, was named AFC player of the year, and made two pro-bowls. The fact that people use the word "bust" to describe him because he wasn't Dan Marino is ridiculous.
Think about it my fellow jet fans, the history of the QB position. There are QBs that took us to playoffs. Not many. Namath, Todd, O’Brien, Testeverde, Pennington, Sanchez. That’s about it. We have not had many “successful” QBs! But a few really nice ones, that for one reason or another did not excel for the long term. I think boomer took us to one playoff game. I think 1991. We had Farve for a year. Both great QBs in their time outside of Jets. So that gives a less than stellar jet QB history. There were a few really nice years though, that we can rejoice in. Otherwise sad story. Thinking we could have easily drafted (not a reach), guys like Marino, Brady, Farve, Russell Wilson, Mahomes is just crazy, imagine how it looks if we did. Those guys were available and within our grasp at same time we were actually looking for a QB! Imagine what Jet history looks like with, Namath, Todd, Marino, Farve, Brady, Wilson. And/or Mahomes…. And forgot to mention that if Manning had came out early. Hitting on QBs is imperative! Hope we struck gold with Wilson! Guys like OBrien and Chad werent bad, but the fact that we are discussing them as second best in our entire history pretty much sums up why we are such a woebegone franchise. I think there are strong arguments for Vinny, but it is hard to give that nod to a guy who only really was here for 5 seasons or so. Maybe wo the injury it might have been different.
Hopefully he will be #2 in the near future and then eventually replace Joe Namath at the top of the list. Every Jets fan would sign up for that!
Would have been Pennington for sure if he hadn't gotten hurt. He might have even eclipsed Namath. But what happened happened, so I have to go with O'Brien because he performed longer than Testaverde and Pennington did here.
Really if you look at the history. Jets 1st round QB were not terrible. Namath, Todd, O’Brien, Sanchez, Darnold, and Wilson. With Darnold maybe being the worst! But 2nd round QB picks are miserable! Starting with Browning Nagle, to Clemens, to Smith, to Hackenburg! Yikes.
