I’d love to have him. Talk about immediately improving on D and especially our run D. Unfortunately I don’t think it’s in the cards
We can win games without having too much of our cap space tied up at the LB position. No one said anything about tanking or losing. That's a dumb jump you made. The #1 priority must be ensuring that Zach develops. That means putting a large chunk of our resources, in terms of FA , the cap, and the draft, into building around Zach, not building the D. Those resources must go to fixing the OL so that Zach isn't taking a pounding or running for his life; into the TE position where we don't even have one true quality TE; WR, and even RB, where we basically only have MC. Perine isn't a scheme fit. Johnson can't or won't block, and can't catch. It's a well-known fact that NFL teams don't win consistently if they don't have a quality QB. How anyone can expect Zach to develop and the Jets to win with the crap we have on offense around Zach is mind boggling. We're not going to win with D. They need to build an NFL-caliber offense first, and then they can worry about the D.
No, I think the opposite is true. We will make some good FA signings. They will be at WR, S, TE, & OL where they should be. LB is not a priority need like those other positions are.
HC has said many times, one way to develop a QB is to make sure he’s not in a shootout every week. I feel like this board is going to be very disappointed this off-season when we sign a mid tier TE and a bargain WR (hopefully Roninson) this off-season. Hopefully the upper tier C/G and EDGE we sign will soften the blow.
I’d love to just get a plug and play McBride and another in the 4th but I doubt JD will go into the draft with such a dire need. If I were a betting man (I am) I say we sign Williams to one of JDs infamous “prove it” deals, get a TE in the 3rd or 4th and pick up McBride in the 2nd if we get an extra pick trading back from #10.
By "HC" do you mean Saleh? If so, he hasn't proven anything to me yet. I don't like the defensive scheme he brought, and I disagree with him regarding his comment on one way to develop a QB. A QB isn't going to develop handing the ball off 40 times a game. Conversely, he will develop by throwing the ball 30-40 times. He will learn how to read Ds, get rid of the ball quickly, and develop that timing and chemistry with his receivers and get in a groove, build confidence and grow. The chances of his developing with the crap TEs, WRs, RBs, and OL he had this past season aren't very good that's for certain. He'd have to develop in spite of those around him and the decisions his CS/FO made rather than because of them.
No one said we don’t need any additions on offense but you imply ignoring the defense, which is laughable. and yes, our HC is Saleh.
My belief is this, the jets come out with 5 starters out of this draft, these 5 guys plus the 4 we added in last years draft should put us in playoff contention this year. No excuse why CS can’t make a push for playoffs this year. Next year we go big in FA by adding 2 or 3 big names, that would be 12 players on this team that have developed along with FA that can fill holes and the deep and consistent playoff runs should be the norm. I’m not against FA, but we are one good draft and one year away from needing FA to help team win a championship.
I think Bobby Wagner falls into the category of players that would only play for this team for a king's ransom, but Saleh has a Seattle connection so who knows. I'd lose my shit if we got him though. Hell yeah.
The only thing that is laughable is your dumb response. I'm not ignoring the offense. I've never said once that the D should be ignored. That's utter BS! I've said that ensuring that Zach develops is the #1 priority and if push comes to shove, the Jets should err on the side of the offense, but I've never said that the D should be ignored. I've said numerous times that in FA the Jets should sign a S & CB in FA. Initially, I didn't think we needed to add a DT or draft a CB early, but I've changed my mind on that, and have mentioned the DT I'd like to see JD sign in FA and the CB I'd like to see him draft. I've even accepted and begun to embrace using both of our 1st round picks on D if we've signed an OG in FA and either signed or traded for a WR. I've also said that in addition to signing a S in FA that we should draft one, and probably in the 2nd round. I've also talked about LBs I like if the Jets draft a LB, so to say that I'm ignoring or want to ignore the D is totally untrue. GTFO with that nonsense.
I said imply - I choose my words carefully. See the bold in your first post. -you’ve said many times? I will not apologize for not reading every one of your poorly formatted essay like posts. I’m only going but your most recent which again says “not building the D”. I’ve were going to get aggressive, I’ll also call you out on “disagreeing” with Saleh that solidifying the D is a way to help Zach bc he’s respected through the industry as a guy with high football IQ, and you… well I’ll stop there. You get the point.
I don’t see how Cooper would be “more reasonable” than Wagner. Im just pointing out the hypocrisy of wanting Cooper (despite being a major disappointment at every stop) but not Wagner (a future HOF). Yes, DJ seems like a JD signing (cheaper bc coming off a bad year) while filling a void he’s commented wanting filled(bigger receiver and red zone threat). JD signs DJ has a nice ring to it.
I agree and it came from drafting defense every year. It will not take long to fix just don't know if the Douglas and Saleh team can fix it. Pittsburgh, Baltimore doesn't rebuild or change coaches. With a stellar free agent signing and Saleh upping his coaching game the Jets could have a winning season this year. We need to demand more from this organization.
if we could get cooper in the 16mil range i'd take him for sure. he's also only 27 so a 3 year 48 mil contract keeps him until 30 and fills a big need giving us a starting 3 of davis, cooper, and moore for the next couple of years. I doubt it happens though but we could probably land chark for around 12 mil. wagner is 32 and while LBer is a need we need a younger faster guy there and there are quite a few in the draft this year we can try and land in the mid rounds. I'd love to take a flyer on a guy like troy anderson. but there are about a half dozen Lbers i'd be pretty happy with. and wagner will likely want 18+ mil a year as will cooper and they'll both probably get it. if wagner wants to come here for 2 years at 15 mil a season i'd take it for his experiance even at his age.
