That’s kind of what I figured $2.5 million not $25 million …there’s different tags. The tweet is erroneous.
Actually, I found out this morning that the post above that I quoted was a joke. He wasn't talking about a tender, but rather truly the Franchise tag. But that said, I totally disagree with you. Zach is clearly the more talented, better QB. White doesn't have a fraction of the talent that Zach has. If the Jets don't wind up tendering him, it won't be because they're worried about it dividing the locker room or fanbase. I'm sorry, but that's just absurd. White is a limited QB with marginal arm strength.
As I told westiedog, I learned this morning that the post was a joke. I thought the Twitter poster got confused and called a tender the franchise tag. He wasn't. He was goofing on those who think that White is close to Zach in terms of talent and potential. I think the Jets could still tender White. It will be interesting to see if they do. If not, that will show what they think of him and his potential. They weren't fooled by one career game like a lot of posters here. Of course they're not that stupid to franchise tag a backup QB.
The reason I posted this I thought the Twitter poster got confused and called the tender the franchise tag. It turns out it was a joke and he did mean the franchise tag. I never thought they would franchise tag him or that is what the Twitter poster meant.
Yes, now the question is what the tender him at. Right of first refusal? 5th rd, 2nd rd or 1st rd? They know he can handle it if called upon so I would think the 2nd round tender at $3.9m would be good. Original round tender (5th) likely he is gone and right of 1st refusal someone offers him 3 years $15m do the Jets really want to match that? $3.9m will likely put him around 45th highest paid after some new contracts get in the mix this off season so pay him $3.9m or get an extra 2nd round pick.
Honestly, I don't care if Zach is the more talented QB or not. The NFL highway to fame is littered with talented QBs. The one I want playing for the NY Jets is the one who delivers wins. I hope it's Zach for sure, but I also hope Mike White gets a shot on another team.
I heard the Bronco's front office is livid with the Jets. "Jets waited until we traded our next two drafts for a washed up QB, and NOW they make QB Mike White available??? Unbelievable!!!".
