Imagine being so obsessed with stopping the slaughter of innocents that people would sacrifice a small amount of their own comfort. And others would turn a blind eye and think only of their wallet. Can't make it up.
What was avoidable was the slaughter of innocent Ukrainians. Don't be naive. The U.S. is turning Ukraine into another killing field... a sacrificial lamb in the drive to increase NATO Inc.'s market share. Even someone with a Phd. in Gender & Queer Dance Studies... like @barfolomew ... can easily see that.
You must think that the Ukrainian government and people are incredibly corrupt and stupid to offer themselves as a "sacrificial lamb" to NATO. And, according to your theory, NATO is a corrupt organization seeking world domination, as opposed (I suppose) to the innocent-as-the-driven-snow Russian government. I guess from your point of view deep within the rabbit hole that these observations make sense. For the rest of us, these observations seem like paranoid speculations fanned by actors who do not have America's best interests at heart.
Here's a statement from a true American hero, retired astronaut Scott Kelly, in response to threats from the head of the Russian space agency to kill the international space station: "If the Russians decide that they're going to walk away from it or do whatever, it would be hard for NASA to go it alone," he said. "But you know, what? That's what NASA does, they do hard things. So I think they'd figure out how we could do attitude control (or) how we could boost the space station. ... It's not impossible to go without the Russians. It'd be hard but, you know, that's what NASA does. Hard stuff." This "we will tighten our belt and make it work" attitude is our historical American attitude, and it seems to be in sharp contrast to the "woe is us" defeatist attitudes and whining that is all too common in this blog.
Let me know when you're done putting words in my mouth... I got some leftover pepperoni pizza warming up. Then we can discuss why the U.S. encouraged Russia to invade Ukraine.
So the Russian invasion of Ukraine is to be blamed on U. S. encouragement? I suppose U. S. encouragement is ultimately the cause of the Russian invasions of Crimea and Georgia. Hell, let's blame the Russian invasions of Afghanistan, Czechoslovakia, and Hungary on the U. S. while we're at it. Excuse me if I don't seriously consider what I see as your incredibly distorted view of history. And excuse me if I wonder who and what purpose the clear distortions serve.
It's clear that Russia is fanning the flames of division in America. For example, I saw a vitriolic criticism of Ukraine (refuting criticisms of Russia) on Facebook by somebody who presented himself as a black American. When I opened his profile, the only things on there were dozens and dozens of criticisms of Ukraine from a Russian point of view. I wondered why a black American would have such energy and such interest in vilifying Ukraine and justifying Russia. I came to the conclusion that it was unlikely that these would be the dominating, even exclusive, interests of a black American. My guess was that it was a phony profile set up by somebody to make anti-Ukranian statements in support of Russia. I'm thinking that such phony profiles may be more common than I suspected.
Are you stupid? Every 1% unemployment goes up, 1000s of people die. Im not thinking about my wallet, I am thinking about FELLOW AMERICANS, UNLIKE YOU You want Americans to die, good for you I guess https://news.yale.edu/2002/05/23/ri...r-death-rates-new-study-yale-researcher-shows
Nah these people are sick. They want Ukrainians to get slaughtered and America to have a financial crisis leading to many Americans dying. Completely detached from reality.
Just one more example of Russian expansionism: "The Russian soldiers in Belarus, escalating tensions with the West, and an unspoken mandate that Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko fall in line with everything Putin says, is eroding the country’s sovereignty, experts say. “This military buildup and increase in military cooperation between Belarus and Russia just shows that Putin has overtaken Belarus,” Alla Leukavets, who researches domestic and foreign policy of Belarus at the Wilson Center, told Fortune. “He has done this soft mode of occupation of Belarus, without firing a single shot.” Experts say that the Ukraine crisis represents a loyalty test for Lukashenko. Putin may have a grand goal in mind—to reclaim as much of the former Soviet Union as possible, “creating a sphere of influence that extends through all of the Eastern European states that joined NATO from the 1990s onwards,” according to a recent analysis by the Financial Times’ Francis Fukuyama. Given Belarus’s growing isolation from the democratic world, Lukashenko had to abide by the Russian president’s commands to maintain a political relationship that keeps him in power." You are pathetic. And more stupid than anyone here thought. If you even read just the link you posted, not even the story, you would see it is about unemployment, not about bombing men, women and children. In addition to its irrelevance it is also twenty years old. Who are these "FELLOW AMERICANS" you think you're saving when unemployment is the lowest it's been in two years, approaching all time lows? It's not going up! And you expect us to believe you don't care about your wallet as you support every move Putin makes even if it's bombing the escape routes for civilians he agreed to protect. Truly pathetic.
I've yet to hear from any interviews with Ukrainians that they're tired of being "sacrificial lambs" for NATO. All I've heard are pleas for help from the West. I suppose some people might think that the interviewees were hand-picked to express pro-freedom. pro-independence, and pro-West attitudes.
History? Two weeks ago Kamala Harris was in Europe applauding Ukraines quest for NATO membership... while Russia forces were amassing on their border. I'm no Poly Sci major ... but that seems insane... unless a war is what you're actually trying to propagate. Now... we all know Kamala is dumb... but she ain't that dumb...
ARE YOU STUPID I was talking about the financial side. You responded with: "Imagine being so obsessed with stopping the slaughter of innocents that people would sacrifice a small amount of their own comfort. And others would turn a blind eye and think only of their wallet." I am pointing out that as unemployment rises WHICH IS PART OF A FINANCIAL CRISIS, many people die. You are the on who wants Americans to die clearly.
Funny, your comments (including your pleas for humanity) sound remarkably like those Charles Lindbergh made around the beginning of America's declaring war on Germany and fighting the Nazis. History will prove you just as wrong: The American Experience | Lindbergh | Des Moines Speech (pbs.org) CHARLES A. LINDBERGH: War and Peace: Two Historic Speeches (charleslindbergh.com)
Be careful what you wish for. You are underestimating the damage that will be caused by a financial depression, probably the worst we have ever seen.
For those interested in what Kamala Harris actually said in Europe about Ukraine and NATO, rather than reading a near plagiarized paraphrasing of false claims by Tucker Carlson, scroll down to the green box at the end of this article which quotes the Vice President verbatim. The article itself lays out the background of Carlson's false claims echoed above. Tucker Carlson justifies his about-face on Russia’s invasion of Ukraine with a misogynist rant about VP Kamala Harris | Media Matters for America The question here though is who is being supported? Carlson? Trump? Putin? One thing for sure - it's not the brave people of Ukraine in their quest for freedom.
