Dotson is so good. I’d rather take him in round 2 than Wilson in rd1. Very similar players. Obviously Wilson is more explosive and yac but Dotson catches everything and is a great route runner.
he does have some pretty nice routes there. looks pretty solid. still i wouldn't use a 1st on him. I think calvin austin III will be better and can be had in the 3rd or 4th because he's small. I'm also watching a lot of christian watson and wondering why he's rated so low. maybe becuase it all looks too easy against weak opposition and he wins on size and speed alone and hasn't had to show off any technique. I'm thinking he may be a sleeper more then a workout warrior
I mean Austin IIi is more Tavon Austin than Dotson is. Dotson is a high end #2 reminds me of Gallup or Godwin. Christian Watson was not first team D1aa. Still have concerns on him.
austin III to me is more of a WR3 but a really good one who can also return punts and kicks. he can replace berrios/crowder for us. watson is interesting. i get the concerns but on film he looks clean he's huge and elite athletic. even got a 10 RAS
After watching the video that BillsOverJets posted in another thread I've come to the conclusion that Burks isn't a slam dunk. He didn't "run away from Alabama's entire secondary". On many passes he couldn't get any real separation which is real red flag because as good as Alabama's players are, they aren't NFL level. Yes, Burks DID have a couple of plays where he broke free and outran the coverage, but most of the plays he was covered tightly. On the plus side he did make a lot of those contested catches, but again, against tougher NFL defenders he's not going to be as successful. And we already have a stable full of receivers who can't get separation. His route running, specifically his ability to make sharp cuts isn't exceptional, and he won't fake out many NFL DBs with who "rounded" cuts. He does not possess exceptional leaping ability. On the plus side, he is fast - although not the fastest I've ever seen, and not so fast that he can just blaze by everyone - and he has good hands, and he's willing to take hits to catch the ball. He is also flexible and could be used in different roles besides straight WR. In short, he's very good, and will likely succeed in the NFL, but is he worth a #10, let alone #4 pick. At this point, I'd say no.
If you want to break down tape I’m ready! This is how I saw the same plays you did. 19 - Adjust to a bad pass and runs through a tackle and makes a play for 2 extra yards and the first down. :30 wide open, the pass behind him instead of in front. Makes the most of it and turned upfield :43 Back shoulder catch in tight coverage. Uses his body to shield the defence from the ball. DB also had 2 hands on him. He didn’t break concentration to make the play. 1:10 QB panicked and didn’t release the ball on time. Tried to step up instead of releasing the ball on time. Bama pass rush showed up on that play to rush the QB. 1:21 DB was holding his right arm to catch up on the play. Clear PI or holding. 1:42 WR screen gets the first down and takes 2 players to take him down. 1:50 wide open breaks a tackle with an impressive stiff arm 2:23 Lazy route no doubt 2:32 Pass rush in the QBs face. The play had no chance 2:40 QB flustered by the pass rush from previous plays, panics and can’t find 2 open players in the zone including Burks 2:52 Tight coverage. Doesn’t fully extend arms to avoid the OPI. Runs past the off balance CB and flys past the safety over the top. Linebacker , FS and CB2 can’t catch him on a monster game breaking play. That’s the best D in the country he burned and made it look easy. 3:25 Pushes off and adjusts to the ball that was poorly placed. Could have been called 3:35 Bad play call. Didn’t put him in position to make a play. 3:42 Splits the zone in double coverage and high pouts the ball for the catch. 4:08 could have made a more solid block 4:17 Tight coverage to the side line. Didn’t make the catch in blanket coverage I can’t remember the last time I’ve seen a receiver dominate Bama’s D the way he did. They were the top team in the country and he made it look routine. The big play wasn’t OPI he used his body to block the defender from the pass. He didn’t fully extend his arms before the catch. After the catch he avoided the safety over the top and ran past everyone else for the score. Nobody does that to Alabama nobody. I challenge you to find someone who has because I’ve never seen it where the entire secondary gets burned. The catch in double coverage is my favourite play. He just imposes himself takes the hit and holds on in the zone. That’s pure will and skill. His stiff arm is just dominant because of his size and girth.
#4 - Kayvon Thibodeaux Edge #10 - Treylon Burks WR #35 - Kaiir Elam CB #38 - Jaquan Brisker S #69 - Jeremy Ruckert TE Make it happen JD!
Dotson was also kept in a much smaller box this past year than a lot of the other receivers in the class. He was the only reliable playmaker on Penn State’s offense and played with a banged up QB all year long. They also had virtually no running game so they had to throw a lot of quick screens to Dotson to manufacture a running game. If he played in a more wide open offense with more support I’d think he could’ve put up some gaudy numbers. He’s also played a lot of quality football so he’s experienced and by all accounts a great kid.
Here is what I am thinking as of now. If the top 3 are Ickey, Hutch, and Thib. I would not be surprised whatsoever if we get Sauce at 4. I don’t think he will be there at 10. But, Evan Neal is no joke either. I mean, he’s a healthy 335 lbs and 6 foot 7. Curious to see what they do. From all accounts it seems Becton will be back at LT this year. Fant did not play well at RT. If we go Ickey or Neal will they slide into RG? I just think IOL could so easily be addressed later. Wether it’s Zion Johnson or Cole Strange later. WR: I think we go Wilson or wait to see BPA WR round 2. Hoping Dotson is there for us. But, FA could change this. Cooper with a rookie QB contract should be the goal imo. Three most likely scenarios 1. Thib and Garrett Wilson 2. Sauce and Jermaine Johnson 3. Ickey and Sauce/Stingley
Our coaches have said the LT job is basically Fant's to lose. I think Becton is going to end up at RT.
Agree except #10. I don’t want to see Stingley near the Jets. Besides I think they’re attacking the secondary - particularly CB - in FA. I predict they’re taking Penning at #10 or a possible trade down.
First, I want no part of Stingley. I'm still dumbstruck how we took Dee Milliner despite his injury history. Second, all things being equal - talentwise - I'd take a Safety over a CB. A CB generally plays one side of the field and can be neutralized by avoiding that side, easier than you can a Safety. Third, in the above list, if I did want to take a CB it would be Sauce if he's there.
Would you guys be apoplectic if JD jumped on Thibodeaux at 4, but then took Travon Walker at 10? Certainly bigger holes to fill on the the team, but the DL would be pretty stacked and have a ton of explosive potential.
Totally. I'm not here to argue it or anything, just had the thought run through my head when I was pondering Jets Worst Case Scenarios™, and was surprised I didn't recoil like I had in years past when these types of scenarios came up (or actually happened). It's got to be some level of faith I have in Saleh/Douglas, or at least a greater faith than I had in their predecessors. And I personally think that the DL scenario failed in years past not because of the plan, but the execution. Not a single one the guys picked in that run distinguished themselves in the way you'd hope a 1st round DL selection would. 3 pro bowls (3 guys with 1 each) in 19 total seasons the four 1st rounders prior to Quinnen played for the Jets. I mean, they took Coples at 16 in 2012, and in just the next 10 picks there were three other DEs taken who have collectively amassed 7 pro bowls, 216.5 sacks, and are still active. It's definitely a risky strategy, but to me it only becomes disastrous when your org's talent evaluation skills oscillate between "not good" and "painfully wrong". We're fans of a team with some absolutely horrendous draft moments.
Travon Walker is a freak. 6'5 272 35 1/2" arms 10 3/4" hands 4.51 40 35.5" vert 6.89 3 cone He may well be the pick at 4. I'd be happy with him or KT.
