Seen that on Jeremy Wade's TV show... Had fun for the 24hrs I was there. My flight was headed from Osaka to Presidio but had engine trouble so we wound up in Elemendorf. A Moose was on the runway and delayed our landing. Got there wearing my Class B's and it was pretty chilly. LOL
It's warming up quick.... was freezing cold (relatively) past couple of weeks, but past week weather is all-time (70s and sunny... waters back into the 60s). N FL and S. FL have opposite seasons (especially for fishing) I'm kinda pisssed at myself for not getting out early this morn to toss topwaters before this next front moves through later today
I dont think I'll need something that heavy.... I need a rod that can handle big fish over big jigs. Guys I fish with will rarely want to fish that deep (our structure usually ends around 200') and since I'm the only one using the slow pitch gear...... (although I think I made a believer of them last time) The entry level rod seemed to handle solid fish (15-20lb) pretty well, but an up grade (and maybe something a lil longer) wouldnt be bad to mix it up..... we'll see havent used a Seigler yet, but I emailed them some questions and the owners wife immediately emailed me back (family name)... that was cool (think I'd still rather have a twin drag accurate though)
6'-8" (Temple Reef average). My Palmarius Leviathan P1 and P3 are both 7'-3". I need the extra length on head boats and since my regular rods are 7'-6", its a length I'm used to using plus I use the Long Fall technique more than the Slow Pitch style. The P1 is good for 100-300g. The P3 is 250-500g. Ocean Legacy Origin Long Fall P2 is 100-400g. I got most of the depths I'll be-fishing covered. For really deep (by NE standards)water, I have a Temple Reef Innovate MH 7'-8" with a 250-650g range. That one has a small electric on it. All of the rods I just mentioned are in the $300-400 price range. I can make you a real good deal on a never used Temple Reef Gravitate G2. 150 - 400g. Length 6'-8". I know you don't like 2pc rods but this one really fishes like a single piece. ($225 +shipping) w/ case..
oooohh.... very tempting. If that rod was "acid-wrapped" id send you money now (I kinda like the rolling guide concept) but 6'6 - 6'8 is the length I'm targetting as my current rod is 6'3... There was an ocean legacy reccomended by Chris at Johnny jigs, but thats 6'2 Let me see what reel I end up getting.... (just got my fin-nor back, but I'm sure I'll smoke it again ) and I'll think about it
Speaking of Jeremy Wade, I will not be jumping in the water and trying to swim with salmon sharks.....thats just me though
In Alaska, we have no idea. April is the start of deep sea fishing and it will more than likely be snowing out then still.
It really is man, when you can practically walk across a river without getting wet because there are so many salmon in it.....I dont eat salmon, so I catch it mostly for my wife and dog. I do the deep sea fishing more often.
I would also check out Palmarius rods if you're looking for a P2 in a 6'-8"size. 150-400g load rating. Check out https://tacklenow.com/. All Palmarius Rods are acid wrapped too but they are 2pcs. I have both the Leviathan L1 and L3. Just wanted a different manufacturer for my L2. Went with the Ocean Legacy Origin Long Fall. All of these rods are 7'-2".

From the hindsight 20/20 dept.... shouldve bought a piece of dirt here 2 years ago. $hit has gone nutso in St. Augustine the past year ... I wish I wouldve bought another lot as well......
<2' seas @ 10 secs in march = rare opportunity to run my little boat out in the ocean..... Flat ocean and great weather yesterday (after a chilly start) Ran my 17' sailfish about 17 miles offshore. Originally planned on finding some seabass.... but that was a zero. Kinda slow as we only got one real fish.... but at least it was a nice one Havent taken the boat out in the ocean since last summer after dealing with some issues.... but she ran great so I'm stoked about that Oh, and since you're a gearhead.... before you ask: 75' of water, 80g savage "squish" jig on the bottom....
I was just gonna ask about specifics... LOL Out of curiosity, why assist hooks on the bottom and not on the top?
dont know... thats how it comes, but theyre the 1st jigs of this style I ever messed with (with spinning rods at first)... figured it'll look like a small squid to a seabass.... but I'll gladly take a cobia it was the lightest jig I had.... scored some of these pretty cheap off ebay... the rest of my jigs are for offshore (150G-200G)
fishing this spring/summer is gonna be expensive.... and I was gearing up to do some high speed wahoo trolling.... NYET!
Glad all my trips are prepaid. Fewer weekenders definitely. I don't see how Charter and HeadBoat Capts will be able to break even without charging a helluva lot more cash. Gonna get the 17ft boat ready for some lake action. Saltwater may be relegated to once a month now. At some point, the price to fish saltwater will become prohibitive. At least for me anyway. The fuel cost for me just to round trip to Jersey will become too much to bear. Add that to severely reduced bag limits and you get the picture..
Well being locked in at an old price is a good deal (and I assume a bit of a discount off that for pre-booking in advance?)
