Hmmm. Could be a very good deal. I'm a tad concerned about Portis' health. So I guess we would be looking at Portis, Washington, and Houston next year?
Why is Washington so eager to trade with the Jets and take former Jet players? What's the connection?
Eh...I don't know. Leon should be the franchise back here, I don't think portis would fit in well with that.
He would look great in a Jets uniform but he is a little mouthy. Critical like Coles. I don't know if this team needs two players like that.
I think Washington has multiple things on their mind when they trade with the Jets. 1. The Jets are and have been fairly accessible to them in terms of trade potential. Bradway let the Jetskins raid go and did the Moss-Coles deal a couple of years later. We did the deal with them last year in the draft. Basically the Jets are a trading partner of Washington's at this point and worth cultivating to them. 2. If the Skins screwup a deal, which is going to happen occasionally, and give up more value than they receive it's nice to have the beneficiary be a direct rival of the Giants but not the Redskins. Anything that diminishes the Giants is good for the Redskins. 3. The Jets have cash to spare. It's hard dealing people that signed contracts with Dan Snyder's money machine. We're not talking cap here, we're talking cash and it's not easy to trade a Coles or Portis or anybody else who has big dollar figures due down the road. The Jets are not a cheap franchise and have not been running on a shoestring like a lot of the other teams. 4. Kind of reinforcing point 1, the Jets are willing to talk trade. I would prefer that the Jets do their business through the draft but if they can make good deals with the Skins so much the better. Portis would be a very good deal.

in a somewhat weak draftclass where we already have another 2nd rounder...this trade shuld get done but there is more bussiness at hand BEAT THE PATS
Anyone who wouldn't do that in a heartbeat hasn't watched Portis play recently. He's a gamebreaker, plain and simple, he fits any system, and although his attitude might have to be curtailed a bit...the Jets would be crazy not to do this, if the rumor is true.
This is kind of the same scenario the Pats were facing when they were picking up Dillon. Dillon had some attitude problems at Cincinatti but he's been on good behavior ever since he went to the Pats. I'm sure Portis would adapt to Mangini's coaching philosophies.
I dont really want him however it would be absolutely hilarious if we traded that pick back to Washington. Then it would be all over everywhere how genious those trades in the draft last year were. Genious.
He could be a franchise back in the mold of Warrick Dunn. However Warrick Dunn has always needed a good big back to supplement him and thereby belies the tag of franchise back.
I would love to have Portis. 1 for his ability, and 2 for his attitude and love of the game. However, I doubt it would only be a 2nd round pick. They would likely ask for Houston or Washington in the deal...
