If JD went out and traded for Baker Mayfield, this place would implode. I don't think there is a single person here who would want that to happen. If there is, I'd love to hear from them.
It would be a really savvy move. It would put the Zach Wilson situation on the backburner, which is good for him and good for Douglas at this point. Zach would either come into camp next year completely focused and ready to go or he'd be running the scout team because Baker Mayfield has blown away every stop he's been at in year one, it's one of the things he does really well. Mayfield has developed an up year/down year pattern so far in his NFL career. Odds are pretty good he is up next season and this would be very good for the Jets as well since it would let them over-deliver on expectations. Moving forward if Zach developed the Jets would have the too much talent at QB problem which they have never had before and which fairly few teams in NFL history have had to deal with. It's a great position to be in from a competitive standpoint. If Zach did not develop, well the Jets would have neatly dodged the hangover from a bad high pick QB.
I think this notion is insane. Baker has been a huge disappointment for the Browns and probably the reason they haven't made it to the Super Bowl. And now you are suggesting that we trade assets for him and pick up his option. All this after spending the #2 pick in the draft last year on Wilson. Wow.
Competition is a good thing. I think a move like this benefits both players. I personally would prefer Garapollo in a move like that but I wouldnt argue with someone like Mayfield
I knew I could count on you to agree with this It's not like he's a free agent. We would be trading assets for him. And he won't be cheap either.
This is just wrong on so many levels. Under any circumstances, in a capped environment you just have to have a strong handle on Zach heading into his third year or else you're going to have to pull the trigger on the fifth year option before you really know what you are going to get out of him. That's why all this talk about making him compete for snaps is just pointless. Trading draft picks for a guy like Mayfield, who has a strong track record thus far of not making a shitty team more than marginally better, and eating his fifth year, is close to insane. Don't get me wrong. Hated the Wilson pick when we made it and nothing he's done on the field since has even remotely impressed me that he can do the job, but it's his job whether we like it or not. Mayfield is the guy you grab as a reclamation project when he costs you very little.
History has absolutely zero, nada, zilch, nothing to do with it. This is a new CS, a new situation, a different approach. I disagree that the evidence isn't on my side. Putting too much stock into this past season with all the injuries, poor play by his offensive teammates, dropped passes, poor coaching early on, and it being his rookie season having to adjust to the speed of the NFL is silly imo. I saw what he is capable of at BYU. I don't think the NFL stage is too big for Zach. He is a hard worker, studies film like crazy, loves the game and has a burning desire to be the best he can. Usually, players with the talent Zach has when coupled with a love for the game and a desire to be great/and or the best they can be succeed and become great players. He is the type to do whatever it takes to achieve his goal. I will never bet against someone like that. If he didn't have the talent, that would be one thing, but he has the talent.
Either Palmer sucks as a QB Coach, Sam didn't work hard enough, or he was incapable of changing. At this point, it doesn't really matter, but since Palmer has helped other QBs and is respected in the NFL, I think the problem squarely lies with Sam.
I'd absolutely LOVE this move. It would finally give me a legitimate excuse to give up on this damn franchise.
No one does this. These guys make as much money as they can as quickly as they can as is human nature. He’s certainly a big reason they didn’t make the playoffs this year.
Mayfield played with a torn labrum this year with a brace on his left shoulder from game 4 on. The brace was because his shoulder kept popping out of it's socket. He originally injured the shoulder in game 2. I don't think I've heard of a recent QB who played with that kind of injury all season because his team needed him to stay on the field. You guys have literally zero idea of what you are talking about.
nah man that would be you or anyone who thinks that trading for a QB who hasn’t even made his team any better with talent on both sides of the ball. While giving up picks and then picking up his option for over 20m. At this point I’m just glad JD is the GM and you’re not smfh. I was hoping you were just joking at first, but nope! LoL wow
The Browns went 11-5 in 2020 and won their first playoff game in 26 seasons, beating the overlord Steelers in the process. I'm going to stop now because you are defending Mr. 6-27 and I'm not going to let you embarrass yourself further in that effort.
Jets biggest area of need? Throw a dart at the map. No, seriously IMO: 1. Edge rusher 2. LB 3. OL 4. Safety 5. TE Yes, I know about WR, but I look for Davis to bounce back--he looked pretty good in early 2021. Moore is a stud. And, I know I keep beating this drum, but the back 7 has got to tackle better. Looks like I am putting LB as a bigger area of need than most people, but I am NOT as high as Douglas apparently is on those two college safeties as NFL LBs.
