Well if we had kept Sammy, we'd be about where we are right now with the worse QB in football....oh plus 3 xtra 1st round picks and 2 extra 2nd round picks. What could we do with those???? hmmmmm
If we kept Sam we'd be paying $20 million to a backup QB and be staring down the barrel of a draft with zero good QB prospects (as some of us said it would be last year in response to the "keep Sam" crowd). Zach didn't play well this year but there's a big difference between sucking in your first year and sucking in your fourth year.
He did play better when he got healthy. Who was the last rookie QB that lit it up Day 1? Zac's problem was he had no weapons. Crappy tight ends, running game was not the best and he was throwing to midgets in Moore and Berrios plus you had a bad playcalling OC. Not making excuses for him but calling out reality.
100%. I think every Jets fan wants the kid to succeed but last season didn't provide any reasons to anoint him yet.
I didn't say you were a Darnold believer but there are people here who were, and just like any other fan who was optimistic about pretty much anything heading into a new season over the past decade, they were wrong. Very, very wrong. History is not on your side here. Neither is the evidance.
1) Pass rusher 2) Linebacker 3) QB 4) Corner 5) Guard safety moves up if they dont resign Marcus Maye
But we'd have one of the league's best young receivers (Chase) or best young TEs (Pitts). We must never forget that Zach Wilson cost this organization the no.2 overall draft pick in what is proving to be one of the best NFL draft classes in years league-wide
The only way for certain that your 1st statement could be true is if the Jets drafted Chase or Pitts at #2. I don't think anyone was advocating for that. So then you are looking at a trade back and no one know who would have been available and where. Nothing like the Monday morning GM.
A trade back woulda been great. Parsons, Surtain, Sewell, Slater.... any of those guys PLUS additional draft picks is making out better than just Zach Wilson Douglas reportedly wasn't interested in trading back though. The 49ers were calling
To make the Jets actual GM look bad, since that is what they are and have been for most of the team's existence.
If we truly want to evaluate whether or not we have drafted a franchise quarterback, OL should be #1, with multiple picks being dedicated to improvement.
Why the heck did we draft a QB when he had Mike White and Sam Darnold? This is not a QB driven league, we could have put any vet back there and won at least 5 games. Crazy to ever draft a QB in the first round. When was the last time a QB drafted in the first round won or got to the Superbowl. Brady won eight and he was a 6th round pick and we have Mike White.
These are almost word for word the same excuses we made for Sam for 3 years. Maybe this time they're legit? Who knows...
