This should lead to some debate, but I always enjoy that...

Let's rank them from 1-5 with 1 being the highest priority.

Hope you check out the video!

In terms of need not counting positional value it would be.
    1. TE
    2. Safety
    3. LB
    4. WR
    5. DL
    6. OL

But when factoring in positional value it becomes:
    1. DL
    2. OL
    3. WR
    4. TE
    5. Safety
    6. LB

Love that you separated it into the two lists. Good stuff!

From a worst position group that needs a good player perspective:
    1. S
    2. TE
    3. RG
    4. DE
    5. CB

In terms of priority of needs combined with overall game impact:

    1. DE
    2. RG
    3. WR
    4. S
    5. TE

Basically the second list where you would need to prioritize free agency and the draft.

    1. QB
    2. Edge
    3. S
    4. TE
    5. OL (could be RT or RG and an upgrade at C would not hurt.)

    1. Edge
    2. WR
    3. RG/C
    4. TE
    5. S

This is my preferred order, but as long as we get starters in each of these, that's the most important thing.

My position is that the most important thing for the team is enabling and ensuring that Zach develops into a FQB. If he develops into a FQB, the team will overcome holes and weaknesses elsewhere and will win their share of games. If he doesn't develop, it won't matter how good the D is. So with that in mind, I'm going to create two groupings. The first is geared towards ensuring that Zach has the best chance to develop. The second is purely looking at the positions as they presently exist as if they were in a vacuum independent of anything else.

The following assumes that Becton will be healthy and Becton and Fant will be our starters at OT. If Becton isn't healthy and or if we don't re-sign Moses, the OT position becomes much more important on both lists.

    Enabling Zach to succeed:
    1. TE
    2. RG
    3. WR
    4. TE
    5. OL depth

I included TE twice because imo the only TE that is worth retaining/bringing back is Yeboah, and even he may need to be replaced next year. I firmly believe that the Jets need to add at least 2 TEs this offseason, and ideally 3.

Positions Soley on their own Merit or lack there of

    1. Tie - RG and TE - at present, neither position has a starter or backup who is worth a damn
    3. S
    4. Edge
    5. LB

Even though I want and Edge and an easy case can be made that we need an Edge if we are to become a playoff team any time soon, the bottom line is that at least we have 2-3 players who can play Edge competently if healthy (Lawson, JFM and Huff). At present we don't have a single competent TE, we don't have a RG nor do we have even decent depth at OG, nor do we have a single S who is competent.

That is why I cannot understand posters/fans who say that the team HAS to make the playoffs this year and should win 9-10 games. That is totally unrealistic and borderline ridiculous to me. With the cap space he has and the 9 draft picks, he needs to add a starting RG, a starting TE, a starting SS, a starting FS, a starting Edge, at least one more TE (if not two), another RB, OT depth, at least LB depth if not a starting OLB, at least DT depth if not a starter, WR depth if not a starting WR (and optimally we need a topnotch WR for Zach), C depth, and maybe CB depth or a 2nd starter.

    1. RG - an O-Line is only as strong as it’s weakest link

    2. TE - We currently have 0 good TEs on the roster and MiLF is a creative play designer who will excel with a pass catching TE

    3. EDGE - We have high upside on 3/4’s the line. Getting a quality EDGE will give quality and depth along the most important position group of the D

    4. S - The best safety on the roster is a CB drafted in the 5th

    5. WR - We currently only have 2 starter quality WR on the roster making 11 personnel packages impossible. As with #2, we’re limiting MiLFs creativity

Needless to say we have a lot of holes. JD needs to hit 5 starters in this draft and hope for 2 more starters from last years crop and 3 starters in free agency.

IMO is Tough to prioritize needs when you have so many but from a most impact perspective and including free agency could very well be
    Edge
    TE
    OL/WR
    CB/LB
Draft is a different animal and based on best player available and value per round where
Edge, OL, WR, S and CB might be top choices with first two rounds depending on how the board unfolds

Just curious: Which QB do you think is better than Zach in this draft? Bonus question: Will he be there at #4?

Probably none. Fortunately, none of the projected QBs are supposed to go very high. So we don't have to worry about burning a high draft pick. BUT, if decent prospect is still there in the 3rd round? Then ya, maybe JD goes for it. Let him sit and watch while ZW either pulls himself up by his bootstraps, or crashes and burns. If ZW has another bad year, let the new kid and Zack compete for the starting job next training camp. I think we need to do SOMETHING other than put all our eggs in one last place finish basket.

And that makes QB #1 on your list? Mystifying.
