    most of them weren't 6-7 and ran a 5.1 40.
the best RBs are typically under 6' doesn't mean a guy like henry can't break the mold. there are always freak exceptions to the rule. remember when QBs had to be 6'5" or taller? becton is freakishly athletic for his size.

freak injuries happen. he didn't get hurt because his weight. he got hurt because GVR sucks and got pushed back into him and rolled him up. lots of top players have gotten hurt. it happens. you can't have an injury proof player

It seems we've debated Becton's weight issue to death and only time will sort it out.

But the other issue is Becton's lateral speed. In camp it was revealed he was too slow locking up with speed rushers around the edge. Maybe weight had something to do with this but it comes back to a lack of quickness. Its unlikely his knee surgery is going to improve his lateral speed. This is a valid concern.

Do you really think there's a high correlation between running 40 yards in a straight line in shorts and being a good OT?

Becton is not freakishly athletic for his size. He was elite at one single event at the combine, the event that has the least to do with being a good OT. Becton is also relatively weak for his size if his bench press numbers are any indication.

I'm not saying there aren't exceptions to the rule, just that those are outliers and not indicative of what is usually ideal.

Yep. Lateral quickness is what matters for an OT, not ability to run 40 yards in a straight line quickly.

He was athletic for his size, lets not get carried away for the sake of trying to win an argument. And if the 40 yard dash has a low correlation to the tackle position, then bench pressing a small amount of weight as many times as possible should be afforded the same skepticism by you.

Becton obviously had/has power on the football field and his long arms make him potentially gifted.

God blessed him with the body type to be a great offensive tackle, it would be a shame if he ruined it by eating himself out of the league

not at all, but it shows he's a freak athlete. 364lb men shouldn't be able to move that fast.

But besides that since it's irrelevant. becton has great lateral quickness and power. he needs to refine his technique but i'd suggest watching baldy's breakdowns of him during his rookie year

here is a big 39 minute video

You’re talking to wrong guy, son. I made no comments of my belief or disbelief. Simply that I, personally, hadn’t heard any reports (I was busy last summer).

I don’t really twitter or IG. If you’d rather have me figure out twitter than tell me, I choose to remain ignorant on the details.

If you need documented confirmation of that type of thing you're dealing with less intellect than I've given you credit for. Actually, I don't believe you're that dumb, you just like acting like a jerk, but here's a few links to get you started on your enlightenment.

Seriously? The fact that it was reported to be an eight week rehab period and he never made it back during the season indicates that either the eight week timeframe was bogus to begin with or complications arose in the rehab process that kept him off the field. For anyone to decide in the absence of any facts that they know what the problem was is ridiculous. Speculate away, boys!

Except there have been zero reports of any sort of complications with the surgery and you’re speculating that there was.

When Tyrod Taylor got an injection in his ribs that punctured his lung it was reported right away.

When Alex Smith had a staph infection during recovery from his compound fracture surgery it was reported right away.

Nothing on surgical complications from Becton’s surgery.

So provide your source that it occurred please.

I see a problem here. I see a guy claiming Becton got fined for being overweight but Googling that comes up with nothing to support it. I see a problem with the overall idea that Becton showed up for training camp overweight when videos at the time showed him to be in what appeared to be great shape. I also see a problem here when the same guy claims the player gained weight after injuries; no mention of how much weight or if it's significant and if it had anything to do with delaying his recuperation.

The problem is one of some guy making his mind up and then passing his opinion off as fact.

Weak? Have you lost your mind?? Becton pure mass steam rolls full-on 260lb grown men. Did you see him throw guys like rag dolls in the preseason. He has natural strength, not weightlifting strength. It's why bodybuilders don't make great football player.

Your ability to comprehend what you read is even worse than I first suspected. There have been numerous reports that Becton was not ready to play when he was originally predicted to be able to play; that was proven out by the fact that he did not play. Taylor and Smith are irrelevant to this conversation as are the reporting procedures of the teams that anyone works for and the information the players allowed to be announced. HIPAA regulations come into play when medical information is being released - if Becton did not want any of his medical providers to release specific information they could not legally do so.

Why would I want to provide a source to anything I never claimed? Where did I say Becton had an infection or other complication? I never did - that was another reading comprehension failure on your part. Both infection and surgical complications were cited only as things other than the weight of the player that could affect his readiness to play. Why are you and so many others here so anxious to settle on Becton's weight, whatever it is or has been, as the reason he hasn't played rather than keeping an open mind? Is it really too complicated for you?

    https://nypost.com/2021/06/15/jets-mekhi-becton-doing-everything-to-control-his-weight/

Becton was listed at 363 pounds last year but admitted before the season to being 370 and was around 380 late last season, drawing discipline from the team.

A different source I recall specified it was a fine. I work from home and consume a shitload of NFL/Jets content. I have no reason to lie about any of my claims and if you look hard enough there is evidence for all of them.

Your eye test of his weight from videos is to be believed but not several comments from several people much closer to the organization than us? I think you've chosen to selectively believe whatever confirms your preconceived notions.

Yes, weak, according to the bench press at the combine. I'm not saying he's not a strong person, he clearly is, just that his bench press numbers are lower than the average OL at the combine despite Becton weighing more than 99.99% of OL at the combine. Take from that what you will. Maybe it means he doesn't work out hard and relies solely on being a gigantic person.

That was in response to someone saying Becton is a freakish athlete. I just don't see that. I'm not 10 years old and don't judge football players or athletic ability simply by a 40 time in spandex. There's a lot more to being a good athlete than that. There's coordination, balance, flexibility, strength, cardio, muscular endurance, etc.

Tristan Wirfs is a much better athlete than Becton according to the combine and his performance as a player.

You know all of these guys train for months specifically for the combine drills, right? What does it tell you that Becton only chose to participate in two drills, the 40 and bench press? Usually if you're avoiding a bunch of drills it's because you know that you're not going to do well in them based on your months of practicing those specific drills. All of these guys know what they're going to do in all of the drills by the time the combine comes. If you skip a bunch it's because you know doing them isn't going to help your draft stock.
