Damn, here we are again. It's the final countdown until Free Agency and the off-season. It's like Christmas morning for Jets fans. Sadly, we wait all year for this period of time! After a putrid season, we do have the chance to finally build a strong base. The bad news is we will need to go through Burrow, Mahomes and Allen going forward. All of these mocks are fun and nobody can truly know what we will do. Our draft profile will be shaped from our Free Agency. Now, regarding FA, let me remind you that you should prepare to be disappointed. We forget how many people will get franchise tagged. Also, we need to do our best Wolf of Wall Street impression and sell these FA's something good! The Jets will have an estimated $49.1 million after the NFL raised the salary cap to $208.2 million for the 2022 season. That currently ranks ninth in the league. Release: -Ryan Griffin -Jabari Zuniga -Shaq Lawson -GVR -Trevon Wesco -Chuma Edoga -Blake Cashman Re-Sign: -Quincy Williams, LB (2 Years, 10 mm) -Mike White, QB -Tyler Kroft, TE -Braxton Berrios, WR (3 Years, $15 mm) -Javelin Guidry, CB -Lamarcus Joyner, S -Eddie Piñeiro, K Free Agent: Generally speaking -Ryan Jensen, C, Tampa Bay: Jensen's best fit is on a downhill rushing offense that takes advantage of his physicality, but he's graded above the 70th-percentile of all centers in gap and zone run schemes over the past three seasons. A perfect fit for this O. Three years, $30 million ($10M per year, $15 million total guaranteed). 30 years old. I think Tampa goes through a fire sale if Brady retires. -Marcus Williams, S, NO: The Cap Situation is horrible in NO. Four years, $64.5 million ($16.125M per year, $35 million total guaranteed). I just hope he would want to play for NY. This is a pipe dream but Maye is gone. Davis, Joyner, Pinnock is solid. After the re-signings of 12mm, FA signings of $26mm, the team will need to save $9mm for draft picks, and fill out some low cap signings..like really low cap or re-work something else. JD can do it! Cut Denzel Mims for all I care. Draft: 1. Jax-Evan Neal 2. Det-Aiden Hutchinson 3. Hou-Kayvon Thibodaux Winning has it's costs! Again, the Jets lose out on the pre-season sure thing superstars. I think 4/5 is where the deal gets done to draft Kenny Pickett. I hope he balls out at the combine and Senior Bowl. But, it's not a huge deal for him. I think a simple swap of firsts with Washington and their second will get it done. Jets need picks. Also, I really hope they consider trading for a guy like Calvin Ridley, especially if they gain picks from trading back. A 2nd and 3rd should get that done in 2022. 10 (Sea-NYJ): David Ojabo. DE UM. If there is one thing I learned from watching the playoffs is you better have athletic DE's who have bend, speed, and can rush the passer. Ojabo checks all of those boxes. While Hutch recieved all of the praise, he proved to be capable. DE is our biggest need. This just HAS to be addressed and the speed of Ojabo edges out a guy like Karalafits, who is too similar to JFM on the Jets. 11 (Was-NYJ): Ahmad "Sauce" Gardner. CB Cincinnati. Total stud. No injury history, size, and would be great in the NYJ base D. 2-NYJ: David Bell. WR Purdue. I think you will see a slew of WR go if Jamar Chase goes off in the Super Bowl. We would be lucky to have Bell here. He is a nice compliment to Davis, Moore, and Berrios. Great route runner and perfect for w WCO. Not a big deep threat guy. Maybe Dotson or Olave will be around here too? I think Det and Jax will go WR round 2 so we may need to trade up. 2-(Car-NYJ): Trey McBride. TE CSU. Again, he is clearly TE1 it seems. A lot of draft hype and hope he stays. We will have our view of plenty of TE in the Senior Bowl 2(Was-NYJ): Chad Muma. LB Wyoming. 142 tackles his senior year. Feels a position of need. 3-Jamaree Slayer. OG UGA. Best OL from the national title team? Sign me up. Even though he played LT in college, he is a plug and play RG. 4-James Cook. RB UGA. 4-Zach Carter. DT UF. 5. Dontrario Drummond. WR Ole Miss. Mims' replacement, ha QB: Zac Wilson RB: Michael Carter & James Cook WR: Corey Davis, Elijah Moore, David Bell, Braxton Berrios, Dontario Drummond TE: Trey McBride, Tyler Kroft OL: Mekhi Big Ticket Becton, AVT, Ryan Jensen, Jamaree Slayer, George Fant DL: JFM, Quinnen Williams, Sheldin Rankins, David Ojabo LB: CJ Mosley, Chad Muma, Quincy Williams/Sherwood CB: Bryce Hall, Ahmad Gardner, Brandin Echols/MC2 SS: Ashtyn Davis, Jason Pinnock FS: Marcus Williams, Lamarcus Joyer
I like most of it. Love Dontario Drummond. I think he’s a higher pick and produced a lot more if he wasn’t banged up (but playing) all year. I like a lot of it. I don’t like Ojabo that high. He benefitted from a lot of single blocking coverage and is probably better suited to play in a versatile 3-4 than with his hand on the dirt every play in a 4-3. Nice athleticism, but I think he’s going to be a run game liability and teams will just send a pulling guard at him all game long.
Thanks, my big takeaway are this: 1. I hope we can pair veteran OL with the young guys. Think Jensen and a draft pick is ideal. Helps guys liek Becton, AVT, etc. mature instead of going all first round picks on rookie. Enough RG to be found later in the draft. 2. Trade back. I hope we do. If Hutch, thbib, and Neal are all gone. I just don't see why it makes sense to stay at 4. To do what? Draft Ikem (who is a stud) but we need more depth everywhere.
Good job. I like most of it and wouldn't cry if it worked out this way, but... (there's always a but)I'd want more from Washington to swap with them. Yeah, I know it's only one spot, but if they want to move up they need to pay the price, otherwise I stay. And did I miss something or did you forfeit the 4th pick? In any case you wind up taking a CB before a WR and to me that's not the right priority. Maybe the way the draft shales out at 10 (or 11 in your version) a much better CB than WR is available, but Zach needs a BIG TIME WR like all the top teams and QBs have - this cannot be deferred or gambled with. I also don't think McBride lasts that long. As for the rest I don't know enough about them to really comment. Kudos for the effort!
As a Michigan fan, I watched all their games this year. Ojabo definitely has speed and bend for days. I really don't think he can play with his hand in the dirt. I love the kid, his speed to bend is truly legit. I am just don't know about him in our defense
I love doing these mocks and seeing what other people do. The only thing I can say I’d speak against is banking on a 3rd round IOL as a starter on the OL, I like Salyer well enough but you gotta have competition for that spot and expecting him to be good to go week 1 is too risky to me. Personally I also think it’s a little early to shell out $5mm per year to Quincy Williams, I would keep him on his current deal and see how he develops in year 2
Draft picks will cost aprox. 18 mil due to the fact that we are basically drafting a double draft 2 ones, 2 two's, 1 three, 2 fours, 2 fives.
Need another WR from somewhere. I’ll be livid if we only go into the season with Davis, Moore + 1 new rookie + another WR from a 4th/5th. I need more
If you’re trading/cutting McGovern, you might as well add the 9mil to the cap and a ?th rd pick. Fant isn’t good on the right. The whole right side makes me wary.
I would but I’d defer on all OL until later rounds. As much as we need a well rounded Ol, we can’t rely on all firsts. We need to hit on a 2nd or 3rd round OL and pair with a FA
Huge no on that TE room and not adding a big time WR whether through trade or high draft pick. Jets need two new TEs and shouldn't run it back with Kroft.
