This draft us dominated by defensive players at the top end. There are no QBs, TEs, WRs that would be even in consideration of a high pick last year. There is depth in round 2 but on the offensive skill side there are no blue chip players. It should be a defensive dominated 1st round as that is where the value is at the top end.

Just because it is a strong defensive draft and no QBs, WRs, or TEs may be in consideration for top 10 pick, doesn't necessarily make it a "weak" draft imo. Besides, by the draft, both Wilson and Burks could be rated in the top 10.

Again by weak I meant the draft is weak at the top end in terms of lacking blue chip players. Burks and Wilson are prime examples in most years they would be in the 2nd or 3rd tier of WRs and would be late 1st rounders/2nd round picks and certainly would not be in consideration to be the top WR off the board or anything close to a top 10 pick.

To use your phrase, "I'll lose my shit" if they draft a DB with the 4th or 10th pick. In my best case scenario, they get one of the top Edges with #4, and one of the top WRs with #10 - assuming JD doesn't trade back which I suspect he might. But if the Edge they want isn't there and they took the best WR at #4 and Linderbaum at #10 I'd be happy.

You sound like you went to the Mike Maccagnan School of Drafting. It's actually not that easy to find quality OL past Round 3.

No way that would be a luxury pick. Mangold went in the first round and he's not even mentioned as the hall of fame. Mawae went in the 3rd round. So the Jets can find a guy outside of the 1st round. The Jets are just not that good to be picking centers in the first round.

It seems like we have the same shortage every year with Douglas. We still need WR, CB, TE, EDGE. Tackle seems like every year. Douglas has to step it up this year.

Dumb luck no. Educated guesswork maybe! Which is what you were getting at I know.

You make it sound like he's been here for a decade rather than 2 draft and FA periods. How many high picks to get a likely day 1 starter do you think he's had? I disagree that CB is a need. It can probably be improved and more depth is needed but last year's 2 starters are fine to run with next year with a vet as competition. Safety is a whole different story though.

Huh? WR clearly on the list. Look at the Bengals and figure it out.

Also never said I wanted a safety as it’s not a position of value same like OL (except LT) or DL

Depends on if they fall in love with Stingley or if Kayvon/Hutchison falls

Ideally Kayvon/Hutchison falls because someone moves up for a QB and another team takes Neal over a pass rusher.

Not sure it happens but it might. WR at 4 I’m ok with too. We can get a Center later I’m tired of taking OL with premium picks

We normally agree, but not this time. I think the above is a very bad, erroneous take.

He's been here long enough to be pinned down for his picks. The flip side is how long you want to give him to get it right? He was hired off his resume of working in top flight personnel organizations in Baltimore and Philadelphia. Baltimore, in particular, seems to draft extremely well. The Jets need a lot and you have a new head coach who will want his type of people too. So I hope they get in sync and plug these holes.

yes, Douglas hasn’t been able to fix those positions. Same needs since he got here, he has just made the roster worse

to be fair though, we haven’t had a good edge rusher since John Abraham, going on 20 years now.

Not only should they draft him in the first round, but they should use their first pick to do it.

How would you have addressed the positions you listed differently in those 2 off seasons?

WR - 2 x round 2 picks and what was probably the best FA option available (1 of the picks busts, shit happens).
EDGE - best FA available, drafted 2 developmental players and picked up JFM on waivers (Lawson got injured, shit happens).
CB - both starters drafted in last 2 years plus others & remember we let a starter go at the end of camp because the rookies were deemed better.
TE - not much on the market so grabbed a stop gap.

Not sure what else he could have done. Maybe a mid/low round developmental TE but then you lose someone else. CB is a bit thin and there's still work to do on Edge, but this is a very deep class for that. Still work to do all over but I'm not sure other than changing a few of the mid round picks about there's too much more he could do in that time frame to address those positions - 3 of which have been wasteland spots for the Jets for a long time.

How is it that other teams seem to find these types of players all the time? Steelers, Raven, Patriots, Kansas City. They draft much lower every year due to them having better records than the Jets. Yet Douglas can't.
