This is a bad response. I don't know if you read what I wrote wrong or what. That's not a comparison. That is what happened in 2 seasons. (1-15) to (12-4). No one said that was the expectation for Joe Douglas. Who is entering Year 3 of his plan. All I am saying is not expecting the Jets to compete in 2022 and 2023 is wrong. They definitely can. It would be a failure by Joe Douglas if they are not. Again, I think they will be competing. I think Joe Douglas is a good GM. Not sure what you thought I meant.
No, your post was bad. You mentioned Parcells and the Jets doing it in two years and then in the very next sentence say that it shouldn't take until 2024 to be competitive, and that if it does the wrong person was hired. That's a bad take. As I've said in several posts, the Niners were awful under Walsh his first two seasons (2-14 and 6-10, then went 13-3 and won the SB in his 3rd season. Chuck Knoll's first three Steeler teams went 1-13, 5-9, and 6-8, then went 11-3 in his 4th season and lost the conference championship. Tom Landry's Cowboys teams went 0-11-1, 4-9-1, 5-8-1, 4-10, 5-8-1, 7-7 , then 10-3-1. Zac Taylor and the Bengals went 2-14, 4-11-1, and are only 10-7 this season even though they're going to the SB. Just because it may take a year longer than we want or think it should, doesn't mean that the wrong person was hired. As the old saying goes, Rome wasn't built in a day. Maybe just maybe, posters need to grow up and stop being so impatient. Maybe if we give JD and Saleh time we will be rewarded too.
I don't know. We are usually on the same page, and I think we are now too. What do you consider competitive? Because to me it is finishing somewhere between (8-9) and (10-7). I think that is fair to expect from the 2022 Jets. Then take the next step in 2023, and then hopefully be in the Super Bowl hunt after that. If the Jets look hopeless again this year and finish (4-13) again, I think it is fair to question how things are being run.
You know the more I think about this the more I just disagree with the entire premise of this thread? Everyone understands where Zach is in the learning curve. I don't think he's going to be raked over the coals for every rookie mistake he makes. That's just silly. If people are willing to sit back and look at the larger picture they'll see a better GM than the Jets have been familiar with. This GM stockpiles picks, something that I think is an excellent and necessary tool for a team rebuilding from scratch. I really think people are underestimating the talent gap between the Jets and the rest of the NFL. When Douglas came on the cupboards were completely bare and that's no exaggeration. The fact is before this year the Jets would have lost to college teams. I'm not sold on the 2020 draft but I'm also not convinced it's a bad draft. We need to if Davis can develop and what can we get from Clark if he gets healthy, same for Becton. The 2021 draft looks to be a great draft thus far. Honestly, Mike Macagnan NEVER had a draft that even compared to the 2020 draft. I just don’t see any major controversies brewing. I think this team is very clearly on the right track. It's just going to take time. Jets fans I think WILL generate the patience necessary to see this thing through.
I'm not really raking Zack over the coals for every rookie mistake. But worse QB in the league, even worse than the other rookies, is kinda scary for the fan base (and for JD too). Zack's mission his rookie season was to simply elevate himself above 'bust' fears, and he didn't do it. No one expected him to be Joe Burrows (well, a few did). We just needed our new kid to play well enough that we didn't have 'bust' fears. He needs to come out of 2022 with no one talking about bust, and everyone talking about his improvement and his future improvement. But right now I'm not sure if he'll even BE our QB in 3 years. He has to change that narrative.
Well that's the thing. Same with Sanchez. Neither were great their rookie season, but most threads dealt with them improving in their sophomore season. They were both decent QBs, but not FQB. They were both in the 20's. That's where I wanted Zack to be....somewhere in the 20's, or even high teens.
The real problem is both of them improved season over season into year two and they still didn't have what it takes to be a good QB in the NFL. Improvement for sure but not enough to get over the top and then year 3 capped them. It's really insane to expect a QB who played as badly as Zach did this year to be a plus QB in the long run. It happens now and then but those are the exceptions not the rules. Mostly the QB's who had the kind of year Zach had this year become game managers at best when their flashy tendencies get brutally beat down by NFL reality.
Ya this. I guess if Zack had played decent, like better than the 5 or 10 QBs at the bottom of the barrel, we'd all be excited about what he can do in yr 2. But 32 out of 32 is kinda bust territory. If you're a 'glass is half full' kind of person, then you can say Zack finished in the top 32 of all starting NFL QBs!
He finished 31st just like the guy you wanted to retain for his 4th year. It's ok, facts don't matter.
I just don't recall this much hand wringing over Darnold's rookie season. Maybe we had more distraction we could point to like a bad HC or bad oline? Not sure....
LOL you sound like keeping Sam is a fore gone conclusion of being a terrible idea. But who knows? If we had kept sam we'd be where the panthers are right now....able to go in any direction they want, while we're still married to Sam's replacement for the next 3 years.
Did you happen to catch any of the NY Jets games last year? Sounds like you were watching the Carolina feed.
You're a Sam homer. Don't try to duck it. And the Panthers are on the hook for his 5th year option, something I'm sure you would have been in favor of if he stayed.
It’s a win now league especially with a rookie QB contract. Corey Davis is a WR 3. Elijah Moore is a WR 2. Go get a stud WR 1. Go get more OL or sign some. Go draft more offensive weapons the bengals style.
