They always say the decision was made with input from everyone. They said that when Sanchez was drafted. If a coach is going to be judged on his record, he'd be stupid to let someone else dictate who was going to take snaps under center.
Maybe… but they hadn’t drafted their FQB yet so we might be a year ahead of schedule. But we’re both expecting a late playoff run Jan 2024.
I think he would be more stupid if he didn't consider others input on players before drafting a player.
Depends on the draft, FA and the CS.. If they can't win 4, then JD deserves all the heat he'll certainly get. I see perhaps 1 win in the Division. JAX, LIONS, BEARS at home. To win at least 5 games, they'll have to win ONE on the road.. Jets always get lucky once a year. Sometimes they get lucky twice.
It's really early but I think 5.5 wins is right on the money at the moment. I expect the Jets to win 5 or 6 games next year if Zach starts the whole season and right now that is looking like the most likely plan.
@bicketybam and @Cman65 There you go. 2018 winner of Most Knowledgeable Poster winner Brad endorses 5.5 games. Let me know if fair with you.
Guy, you really need to get your facts straight. JD wanted to re-sign Flacco, but Flacco wanted to go elsewhere. He didn't want to play on a rebuilding team. He signed early to go elsewhere. The 2020 draft was not a disgrace. It looked good in 2020 then the scheme changed. Some players can't play in every scheme. Mims was a huge disappointment this past season, but he showed promise in 2020. Becton showed a ton of promise in 2020, but struggled and then got injured this past season. Mann showed promise in 2020, then hurt his plant leg this past season, which will screw up the mechanics for a punter. Hall showed promise both seasons and has played very well. Finding a good starting CB in the 5th round doesn't happen in a "disgraceful" draft.
You may be right, but I don't think so. The HC doesn't have to worry about the cap, the GM does. JD knew that keeping Darnold would screw the cap as well as the team's chances to win. Whatever the case, I think they were in total agreement, so it doesn't really matter whose idea it was.
Seriously? You're going to compare the Jets under a HOF HC who brought in a bunch of older vets and screwed the cap so the Jets could win, with a rookie HC and CS, and the youngest team in the NFL? Sorry, but that makes zero sense. The expectations cannot and should not be the same. In addition, the CS has something to do with whether the team is competitive or not. JD could draft 10 potential HOF players, but if the CS doesn't coach them up and put them in a position to succeed, then that's on the CS, not JD.
You are chicken. Ready to bet $50 for Jets to win over 5 games? If so, agree with Cman and send money to me.
What? Didn't you get the message that we either have every right to expect JD to have a championship season after one year because of the awesome roster we had or be a miracle worker and fix the awful roster we had in 1-2 seasons. I swear I think some posters have lost their freaking minds. Either that, or they've forgotten everything they ever knew about football because the Jets and all the losing has driven them over the edge. They are letting their emotion and frustration do their thinking and posting. It's absurd. They just dismiss the 10 years of gross incompetence and joke of a roster as if it was nothing. Thank you for bringing some rationality, common sense, and reality to this thread and this board.
No, they don't always say that. Mac never worked with Gase, and Idzik didn' work with Rex. In fact, I don't remember ever hearing that from a Jets' GM and the desire to seek consensus. I'm sure that Tanny and Rex talked and Tanny did give Rex a pick in a draft or two, but there was not talk of consensus or working together. Of course they had to agree on what to do with the QB position or Saleh wouldn't have taken the job, but that doens't mean that Saleh instigated it. This isn't a peer relationship any more. JD is the boss. Saleh either agrees with it or he can get overruled by JD.
The GM buys the groceries and the HC decides which ones get eaten right away and which get put on the back shelf in the fridge. At least that's the way it is supposed to work in a situation where the GM hires the HC. Then the GM judges the HC on how the team is playing and acts accordingly. In the caddy GM situations it is a bit different. In those arrangements the HC gives the GM a grocery list and asks them to fill it. If the groceries are not particularly tasty the HC finds a new shopper.
