Neither the Jags nor the Texans are expecting to go from worst to 1st this year. Neither EDGE coming out is thought to be a generational talent. Next year, a generational EDGE is coming out. Both the Jags and Texans have a young QB behind center and both have OL issues. The Texans are rumored to be trading their overpriced LT. IKY (LT) has become a dark-horse for the #1 overall pick in the drafting gambling sites. Detroit has to pick the hometown hero. It’ll be good for the team and great for ticket and merchandise sales. There are very compelling reasons for the Texans and Jags to both pass on KT.
Are you talking about Ikem Ekwonu and Neal with the first two picks? Opening up some more possibilities? The real question to me is this, if we had a peak at JD big board, how many players do we think he has listed with good enough value for the 4th pick? Five, more or less? I have a feeling not too many, and he is hoping to trade that 4th pick down because the value is quite narrow for his team? I would not think that after the top two edge rushers, maybe Stingley, or Hamilton, he would just a soon move down a few spots for one more second or more.
I’m talking about them going 1st and 3rd with Hutch going #2 It’s been reported, the Jets are looking to trade 10 but not 4. Over the last few years, the JD regime has been known to not have leaks, and doesn’t seem to put out false reports for misdirection etc. He either is in love with 4 players, or more likely, he has a very good idea about who’s going 1-2-3.
The idea that anyone has any idea who is going in the top of the draft and at which pick in January makes no sense. 2 of the top 3 picks don’t even have coaches, and there has been no combine…. Where are these reports of JD wanting to only trade #10? I haven’t seen them.
I have seen articles saying he's looking to move out of 10 a few times and yet to see one (other than fans in mocks) talking about the 4. I'm sure both are on the table for the right offer but I think moving out of either might be a stretch to be honest. Unfortunately I suspect that this season the 4 and 10 might end up being slots where you can get a premium player at a non premium position (Hamilton), bpa ends up a position we don't have as priority or you have to reach a bit. Just don't think it will fall right for us, but hope it does obviously.
Yeah I’ve seen that floated around the board too and have looked and the only thing I have found is that Douglas stated he is flexible in moving picks.
I do think Jacksonville goes OT, whether it's Ekwonu or Neal is up for debate but they're definitely going to take an OL to protect Lawrence. Detroit just took Sewell and have 7 offensive linemen returning in 2022. I think they'll go edge, but again, which edge they take is up for debate. I believe Hutchinson since he's a Michigan guy and is a very good prospect. Draft starts at 3 IMHO.
Yeah I saw that press conference, I have not seen anything from any beat writer or draft analyst that says anything even remotely that specific though.
https://www.si.com/nfl/jets/news/nfl-draft-rumors-new-york-jets-prefer-to-trade-10th-overall-pick That's the earliest one I saw but it has been repeated on a few fan sites since, probably based off this though rather than confirmation.
If this is where it comes from, it’s a rather weak rumor. This site’s interpretation of the rumor is based on a link to a mock draft by SNY’s Ralph Vacchiano where in the blurb for the 10th pick all it says is: “It’s too early to know anything, but I’ve heard rumblings that the Jets prefer to trade this pick if they can. And while they could use it to bring back a player (like, maybe a No. 1 receiver), I think it’s more likely they trade down and see if they can pick up an extra No. 1 pick for next year.” Which is very vague to the point where he doesn’t even know if it means trade for player or trade down, let alone if it’s a legit rumor. To me it’s just so far away from the draft right now, that if you asked Douglas what his plan was and he had truth serum, he’d genuinely answer something like “Anything is on the table” and it wouldn’t just be a secretive media answer.
I'm in the who knows camp but at this stage of the game is it far fetched to think Jacksonville -- OL for reasons stated Detroit QB they can't love Goff can they Houston CB, S thinking that guys like Stingley or Hamilton stand out as more elite at their positions than the Edge guys do Jets have all the DE in front of them pure speculation
Re any idea who’s picking at the top next year - if I were a gambling man, I’d bet on the 2 or 3 win teams who are currently without a head coach - it doesn’t seem like that big of a stretch. Draft position next year was a factor but not the deciding factor. I’m in Texas rn and there’s a lot of talk about trading their LT. Regarding the trade rumors, I said “looking” as in actively looking. Of course anything is possible but it appears they are “actively looking” into trading #10 but they are not “actively looking” to trade #4. Information doesn’t get out unless JD wants it to.
The "Douglas wants to trade #10" rumor comes from a BYU student who allegedly knows Zach and relayed the thoughts from speaking with Zach. Allegedly.
One thing is for sure, our GM is tight lipped on a good day and the last people to possibly know his strategy particularly this early, are the players themselves. Thus I'm willing to absolutely dismiss this source as some lonely soul grabbing for attention.
He’s not any more tight lipped than other GM’s. He telegraphed taking Wilson pretty badly last year they allowed the Dolphins to find the best offer for #3 rather than scramble when they were on the clock. I’ve literally never heard of any team outside of the top 1-2 picks wanting to move up or down with a pick like #10. And I can’t see any team in their right mind making a trade up to that spot before seeing how the board falls three or four months before the draft.
As for part 2, exactly. As for part 1, I’d agree if it was any other team than the 49ers or Packers, but with the coaching connections it was surely the Saleh/LaFleur/Shanahan connection that made the 49ers so comfortable with that pre-draft trade up. Don’t you think? I understand they were giddy at his pro day but how realistic is it that Shanahan didn’t get the word before he made that trade?
Fair. But the point is that it got out of the organization to another. And I was working from home still at that point. I flipped through all the stations and for a couple weeks and leading up to Wilson’s pro day it nearly felt like a done day that the Jets were taking him. I don’t think that’s a coincidence.
