While true, its very easy to say that but harder than hell to do, when we had a massively inexperienced team with no depth that lead the league in injured starters the whole season. Without the depth, and the bulk of your performers on injured reserve one time or another. putting a winning product on the field is unsurmountable hard. JD needs to significantly up the depth and breath of this team.

It's not a "weird opinion." If the articles I read are accurate, and I believe they were, it's a fact. Just because you don't want to believe it, doesn't make it not true. I'll see if I can find those articles.

I haven't taken a sworn oath. That's ridiculous. You really need to let whatever problem you have with me go or just skip my posts altogether.

Show me where I said that a GM can sign all 22 year olds. You really need to work on your reading comprehension. RIF, my man, RIF. You already have snarky sarcasm down pat.

Please explain to me how this plan sounds any different than Douglas’s.

    @Jonathan_Vilma

    https://thejetpress.com/2014/12/31/new-york-jets-john-idzik-went-wrong/

I had not seen nor read this article before. Here's a quote from that article with one take on Idzik:

    https://www.nydailynews.com/sports/...ut-ny-jets-path-irrelevancy-article-1.1963225

This is one of the articles I read before.

    Quotes from the article:

    https://www.nytimes.com/2014/12/30/...n-idzik-fired-as-ny-jets-begin-overhaul-.html

This is another article I read before.

I can't find the article that I remember reading, that was the most damning. It spoke of how slow and methodical he was in making a decision in terms of FA, the draft, trades, and other decisions about the team. It detailed how he had alienated everyone in the FO and organization with his poor communication and perceived arrogance. I think it even detailed some FAs that he missed out on with quotes from agents or players because he was so slow in moving.

Hopefully, this is enough to enable you to see that it's not some "weird opinion" that I pulled out of my ass.

    You are remembering correctly.

Idzik was criticized for being too slow to react in negotiations. One agent said that Idzik was unable to react to offers in a way that gave him an opportunity to respond to sign players. The one specific incidence I recall was Cromartie. He wanted to sign with the Jets and Idzik wanted him but Idzik was too slow and the Giants signed him.

To be fair MAC had similar issues in responding to draft day trades but nothing to the degree of Idzik. There were a few scathing articles citing agents that said Idzik was completely in over his head and Idzik was not capable of adjusting to the speed of the game being played. He simply could not think and process that fast.

A typical response from you...deflection, you don't respond to the points I made, you twist it back to something else. But for the record, I was mistaken on that point. I hadn't remembered that aspect. The major point is that even though he did have a blueprint, and perhaps the right blueprint, his execution of that blueprint was a total failure due to his lack of talent evaluation skills, his rigidness/stubbornness, his slow, methodical way of working, his inability to see what the team needed, and his arrogance and poor communication skills.

So Idzik wanted to sign free agents but he was too slow and deliberate so he didn’t? And he didn’t want to build through the draft?

All this states is that he bargained hunted and didn’t want to sign big name free agents, similar to our current general manager.

The execution was horrid. But it was the same overall plan, which is the point you keep missing.

I"ve already responded to the bolded text. Nowhere did I say that he didn't want to build through the draft. Please learn to read or quit lying and twisting what I sad. I don't know which it is, and don't really care as that's your problem. But knock it off.

I’d actually agree that (gulp) Idziks plan was solid and pretty similar to JD. He just executed terribly.

After watching the playoff games so far I do not feel confident that our team will have anywhere close to the talent next year that these teams have shown.

The Bills vs Chiefs was a tutorial on what we do not have at all levels of the game.

Idzik had nobody in the organization in his corner.

The HC was Rex and Rex retained who he wanted too.

The player personnel director was Bradway and none of the scouts or evaluators who had gotten the Jets in the mess in the first place was let go when Idzik was hired.

You cannot hire a GM just to represent culture change. You need to let him make the firings and hirings that bring about culture change. Idzik never got a chance to do that.

What we learned is that the Bills defense can be had. We just need to figure out how to stop their offense without being aided by bad weather. (To be honest, we had trouble with that with everybody). Can the Jets do what the Chiefs did, probably not but if we play a bit better defense there is hope?

The Jets were just outcoached by the Pats, we will be better next year. The Dolphins are well the Dolphins. If we can split or sweep the Pats or Dolphins we are off to a good start in the division. The Bills will still sweep us unless we catch fire in a bottle next season.

No we probably won't. but these teams are SB-contenders. I'm hoping that we make the playoffs next year, but that would be a big jump. I'll be happy if we finish around .500 - within a game either way, are in almost every game, and are in the p.o. picture in the end. That will mean everyone made progress and the team is ready to take that next step with a few more quality pieces. I don't see the Jets being as good (or better than) the Bills or Chiefs, but that doesn't mean they couldn't beat them "on any given Sunday". As bad as the Jets were this year, they gave the Bills a tough game in Buffalo, so assuming they add more pieces, they should be able to beat them at least once next year.

You need to look more towards the Bengals. Maybe they should not be in the AFC Championship game, but they are there. The Jets could pull something like that off if everything clicks next season too. I agree they won't reach the Chiefs or Bills levels overnight, but they just need to make progress in 2022, and I think they will. The NFL is truly unpredictable though, which is why you need to build the best roster possible each season. Things could fall your way.

It’s easier to do than the Jets have made it on themselves. We have 8 draft picks between the 2019 and 2020 drafts that are absolute zeros. Even less positive contributors if you include Ashtyn Davis and Chuma Edoga. 11 if you include the fact that Becton missed the entire year.

That’s a big reason why our depth is absolute trash right now.

True. 2020 draft: Becton out with injury, Clark out with injury, Zuniga out with injury, and we are getting ready to write off Perine and Mims. Mims my biggest disappointment. 2019 draft I wont even touch upon because it was a dismal cluster fuck with Mac and Gase at the helm. Three years too many with Mac and two years of combined pain with Gase. 2022 needs to build on the 2011 base and then some.

Hello! We still need a starting QB that can throw over 300 yds. Burrow did that 5 out of 10 games in his rookie year - with a worse O-line than Zach.
