You know whats funny. At the beginning of the year everyone agreed WR was our best and deepest position on the roster. Now its like," $#%#!, we need a WR!" We've actually regressed from the beginning of the year.
Last year we had Crowder and Had hopes in Mims. This year we don’t. This year we have 2 competent tackles and don’t need another… next year might be different. An ever changing roster is half the fun.
Of course you think it’s false… you took someone’s comment “when the run game is good, the QB is good” and completely changed it, completely disregarding the running game. Smfh Since you love putting together numbers, what are Zach’s stats for games in which our RBs put up 100 yards? I haven’t looked but it seems like a good idea to use the parameters proposed by the original poster.
Remember when we thought Barrios sucked, that Cole was a good signing at 5.5 million, and Davis was a really exciting scheme fit?
You’re deep in the weeds of the sunk cost fallacy. Cole didn’t have a good year, Davis sucked and missed a ton of time and now we have two NFL receivers on the 2022 roster excluding that lose Denzel Mims and Berrios if he is in fact re-signed.
Its not about sunk cost as it is about talent evaluation around here. Its more a question of things like people, including you, who thought Berrios was a crappy player, Davis was a potential #1, etc.
I don’t listen to people who thought Berrios sucked. I’m still excited to see Davis play his role in this offense. We all knew he wasn’t a #1 but he was put in that role regardless.
Who said Davis was a #1 receiver? He’s a cog in the wheel and can be a good player in the right receiver room. You do understand that pre-season opinions can change based on the 17 game season everyone just watched, yes? You have the same opinion on every single player from July to now?
I must admit I thought Davis and Mims were going to break out, Moore was a great pick, and Crowder and Cole were solid depth guys. Never in my wildest dreams did I think Zach will be throwing to likes of Montgomery and Black. But things did not work out as I thought. Mims busted completely. Davis was mediocre, then got injured. Moore was injured in the beginning, took time to get going, then after a few good games, got injured again. Crowder was injured a lot again, and Cole was below average. On a positive note, Berrios was a discovery, and Moore developed into a good player, so there is still some hope there. Overall, I was wrong about WR group. Which is why we MUST add more talent to it. We need to bring back Berrios, but Crowder/Cole to me should be gone. I would be OK to keep one of them as a depth piece, but I feel we need two more upgrades: A WR1 and another really good depth piece. One via FA and the other high in the draft. Moore should have a better year too next year, though injury is a concern. With two new quality guys though, Moore in second year, and shedding some aforementioned non producers we can finally get WR group closer to where it should be.
I'm just remembering saying Braxton was probably as good as Cole for a lot cheaper in the Cole signing thread, and half of TGG went bonkers about how bad he was.
It appears he got motivation to get better. Is there another Culpo sister he can help hook up with Zach?
You just have no clue. You watched the worst Jet's rookie QB season in 45 years and somehow you're defending the status quo.
No, I’m attacking your inability to stay on topic. Can you produce our QBs numbers when we had 100 yds in rushing or not?
Zach Wilson's numbers when the Jets had 100+ yards rushing were as follows: Att 135, Comp 79 Pct 58.5%, Yards 861, YPA 6.38, TD 2, Int 5, Sacks 16, Dropbacks per sack 9.4375. When the Jets did not have 100 yards rushing he had: Att 248, Comp 134, Pct 54.0%, Yards 1473, YPA 5.94, TD 7, Int 6, Sacks 28, Dropbacks per sack 9.86. In other words, having the rushing game going really didn't mean very much when Zach was on the field. He was just a crappy QB this year and you cannot attribute that to being a rookie unless you want to group all the recent rookies into the groups that succeeded and the groups that failed. The only recent rookie that had a season as bad as Zach's and turned into a reasonable QB was Jared Goff and the Rams traded two first round picks to get rid of his contract.
Thank you for putting that together!! Is there a difference between pre injury with 100 yd rusher and post? If Zach put up poor numbers with having 100 yd rushers and a few games experience under his belt then there’s no counter point for those who said he showed signs of a FQB. I’m looking forward to see what you find out. We can have our own truths but we can’t have our own facts. -KingRoach
Post injury the Jets rushed for 100+ yards 4 times, against Houston, Miami, Jacksonville and Tampa Bay. Zach's numbers in the 4 games were : Att 102, Comp 60, Pct 58.5%, Yards 651, YPA 6.38, TD 2, Int 1, Sacks 12, Dropbacks per Sack 9.5. The Jets asked him to do very little against 2 terrible teams, one decent team and one very good one. This was the Mark Sanchez bubble in operation and it kept Zach from throwing picks. It did very little other than that. To make it clearer if the Jets had rushed for 100 yards every game in conditions similar to the 4 100 yard rushing games at the end of the season Zach's numbers for that full season would have been: Att 433, Comp 255, Yards 2,767, TD 8, Int 4, Sacks 51. That's not even a passable NFL QB. The Jets did everything they could to protect Zach in the latter part of the season because it was clear that letting him go out and repeat the first half of the season would have rendered him a non-option for 2022 and they wanted to preserve that option. The open question is where do they (and Zach) go from here because the odds are overwhelming that he will be just as overmatched early next season as he was all of this season.
