It is something. They need to get out of Metlife.

Facility I will agree with but not staff. The Jets have a history of being cheap with their staff. I read an article 3 years or so ago talking about the Jets scouting staff. The article quoted some other team scouts saying that the Jets scouts were highly respected but their scouting department was highly underfunded. The article then went on to say that MAC had been petitioning for money from the Johnson's to make the scouting department more competitive and more in line with what other teams were doing. One of the great things about the hiring someone in such demand like JD is he could demand that the Johnson's spend money and hire top level lieutenants for JD and likely spend more on scouting. We can possibly also see this effect in the number of coaches the new CS brought in.

How can we all agree on that? Is there any chart anywhere that compares what the teams spend on things like facilities and medical and training staff? They made a big deal (but no JB Smoove) when they reorganized those units a while back but I don't remember a discussion of financing it. There's actually very little any of us know about salaries and expenses for anything other than players, not just for the Jets, but for the entire league.

Talk of this team being generous or cheap about any of this is just that - talk.

Biggest media market in the country, you'd think all those fancy reporters would investigate this for us.

Where do the Jets spend their most money in their operations and how do they compare to the rest of the league? Hell, even if they aren't good enough to dig up that info then at the very least they could tell us the perception of the organization among non-Jets players & coaches

(the beat writers dont want to go down that rabbit hole because they will be cut off by the Johnsons)

I was hoping the answer would come from the guy who said the Jets are not being cheap with any of this. Like the guys who always claim the Jets are playing cheap with everything it would be nice to provide a little support. Which ones are we supposed to believe?

Says Becton gained weight after injuring his knee which played a part in the delayed return.

Yeah, I think the Jets decided to shut him down for the season and told him that he needs to come to OTAs ready to go 100%. If that doesn't happen, I could see him being traded. It's "put up or shut up" time for Becton.

I have a really bad feeling about Becton. It just seems like his response to valid criticism is always defiance or something similar, like he doesn't think there's ever a valid reason behind it. Doesn't bode well for his odds of improving.

I’ve already mentally moved on from Becton. Hopefully I’m wrong but I just can’t see how he turns this around. He was already at a disadvantage because of his size and not only has it not gotten better, it’s gotten worse… and because of injury. Double whammy. Keep Fant, ditch Becton.

In other news, CeeDee Lamb is playing today.

Obviously he and the CS got off to a bad start last season and then things got worse when he got hurt and was not able to return.

I think you watch the off-season process this year through the draft and if the CS is still not sold on him you have a very tough decision point. You want to think you have your franchise LT to protect the QB but if that's not actually the case pretending you do is much worse than proactively solving the problem.

That's why I said the decision point will be how he shows up at OTAs (IF he shows up). LTs with a lot of potential are rare commodities - injured or not - so I would see JD trading him for some strong value if Becton doesn't impress in June.

That doesn't exactly inspire deep-conviction confidence does it.

    Seriously, right?
"Hopes to be ready for OTA's."
    WTF?

Time to let the kid know he's being held accountable. The FO/CS needs to stop with the excuses and start with the requirement that Becton gets his ass into camp next year.

I agree but I’m less worried about it because this is the MO of the modern day millennial/Gen Z player. We’re going to see this very frequently moving forward.

I've seen enough to try to trade him. I highly doubt Douglas will do that though, primarily for optics reasons. Looks awful if your first two picks from a couple years ago are already useless to the team.

These reports are not good. He got fat because he could not rehab? This just shows a lack of professionalism. We should be very concerned.

Especially since this happened merely a month or two after he came into camp overweight. You'd think he'd be extra mindful of his weight given how recently it was an issue. The guy just doesn't get it and I'm not sure he ever will.

I’m extra alarmed because I’ve lost about 40 pounds since July doing nothing but dieting and 30 mins of walking 5-6 days a week. And I’m 6’4” so I understand what it’s like being a big dude. Putting on weight when all you have to do is pay attention and walk (which he undoubtedly was able to do, if not more considering he had access to high level help/facilities)… that’s alarming.
