I agree about Carter being able to get to the edge but my response was about adding an additional RB. Yes, Lafluer likes running up the gut but that play and the entire offense is based on the idea of being able to get to the edge with the RBs and the Jet sweeps. When the Jets can get to the edge then suddenly running up the gut is easier as is pass protection as defenders cannot pin their ears back and rush. Which is why this offense prefers quick RBs like Carter. Johnson is also quick and suits this offense but he was a liability in pass protection, fumbled twice and dropped a lot of passes. A 2nd quality quick RB would help the offense a lot.
What the Jets need to do is add 4 or 5 quality starters in the draft this year and then do it again next year. It's almost irrelevant what position those guys play because the Jets have so few quality starters at the moment. Those 9 guys would put the Jets in range to maybe add a big free agent and a couple of lesser ones to round out the team. Without the 9 guys you could bring Megatron in here next year and all he would do is maybe bring out the Matthew Stafford in Zach Wilson. But given that we're the Jets what he would more likely do is tear a hamstring by the bye and sit things out as Zach goes down in flames. Big name free agents only have a big name until they get to the Jets and then we slowly tear it down.
Which is why we never control the clock. When Carter gets stopped, LeFleur immediately goes to the short range pass that's usually short of the marker. If there's a tank on the roster, You can make the short yards especially on the left side with AVT and hopefully Becton. If you must run up the middle, at least you'd have another option besides the Carter up the middle stopped just short. This team is not built to play power football so if they want to be a finesse team, they had better start bringing in smallish, lighter weight players. They can't run against a stacked box but LeFleur will try anyway.
Ideally trade back from 4 and grab an extra two this year (swap firsts) with whoever. Schultz Linderbaum round 1 Use second rounder to trade for Ridley Draft Breece Hall with other second round pick Draft second TE in 3rd or 4th
Run the ball until the opponent decides to stop that and then let Zach go bombs away. Zach Wilson is probably the least qualified starting QB in the NFL to try to run that SF offense.
Yeah even though I "like" Ty Johnson per se when I put on my stone cold emotionless GM hat his definitely seems to be a roster spot that could stand upgrading. I watched a few film breakdowns this season where he has just made some catastrophic mistakes. I get nobody is perfect and things happen fast but when the whole show is riding on you picking up the extra rusher you gotta find a way.
Douglas does not need to draft a defensive lineman in the first round. He needs to get some players for Zach to throw too or hand off too. The chances of finding a pass rusher is awfully low looking at the Jet's history. So try something different build up the offense for once.
You aren't wrong in regards to the draft. If they can keep bringing in good players, all the stuff we talk about will take care of itself.
I think he gets the tag, if he doesn’t though, you sign a check and hand him a pen and tell him to fill in the rest
