I think you missed the part where I said sign one. so for example shcultz, rookie, kroft, yeboah shucltz would be the starter and the rookie would be a TE2 if they beat out kroft which should happen. kroft is the cheap 3rd TE and yeboah is the 4th. that's a solid group assuming the rookie plays somewhat well. as far as NE part of that is lack of WR talent and plus jonnu has been a bust of a signing so not really making a good point. smith is getting 12.5 mil a year and put up less then 300 yards and had 1 TD and he's not much of a blocker. no team has had 2 really good TEs in the NFL except the current bucs (gronk, brate, howard) and the pats with gronk and hernandez. eagles did for a litle with goeddart and ertz but traded ertz away because having 2 great TEs doesn't make a lot of sense when you mostly run 1 TE at a time
Misinterpreted what you said. I'd be fine with a TE room like the one in your example and that's actually one of the ways I'd tackle it. It just depends on how the Jets view the TEs in this years draft. If they don't like them and would prefer to have more flexibility in the draft then I'm on board with signing two FA tight ends, re-signing Kroft, and keeping Yeboah.
Fun list G&C...thanks for putting together. You saved the best FA for last. James Conner plowing between the tackles and Michael Carter everywhere else could be dominant running game, depending on how our RG/RT shakes out. Nothing would help Z more in yr2 than a great running game and a dependable TE.
My guess is that there is not a single person on the list who would actually help the Jets. However we do seem to throw money away with the best of them and I guess the owners are wealthy enough to burn $40M or $50M at the altar of instant publicity again. We've done this like clockwork since 2015 or so. Just throw money onto the fire and watch it burn. You could say that it's the only thing the Jets are world-class at right now. Wasting cash to make a splash.
Did you actually read the list of players or are you just going to continue to shit post on everything and contribute nothing to the discussion? You used to be one of the best posters on this board and now you do nothing but troll and shit post.
I read the list and I'll repeat what I said: I don't think there's anybody there that would actually help the Jets long-term and I don't think they'd really help much next season either. Veteran free agents are a trap for a bad team. They prevent the building of a *team* while they flesh out the roster and then they get hurt, they decline, they generally suck balls compared to the cost of acquisition. This is Jets 101 - you should know this by now.
So you don't think Dalton Schultz or David Njoku would help a TE room that has no NFL level tight ends in it? Sure dude. You'll stand on your soap box right now and say the Jets shouldn't sign any veteran FAs then come on the board next season and say the team sucks and try to figure out why. A young roster needs to be supplemented with smart FA acquisitions. Joe Douglas has already proven he won't throw around bags of money at every FA.
5/8 of the highest paid free agents from last year were signed by playoff teams. None of them are with their original team.
I think the TE's you mention would come at a premium and then they'd get hurt, decline, and generally not justify their acquisition price. This is what has happened to *every* major FA acquisition the Jets have made since 2015 and TE's get banged up at a higher rate than any other position due to their size differential against the guys they are opposite in the pit. If the Jets want TE's (and they should) the answer is to draft TE's with decent picks.
Definitely think Gregory, Hicks, and Tomlinson would be terrific adds if they shake free. Not liking the TE selection tho especially Njoku. He sucks man--why do you think the Browns had to get Hooper?
Not sure what you're getting at here but I will reiterate: veteran free agents are a trap for bad teams. There's no *team* on those bad teams and fleshing out roster spots with mercs just there for the money doesn't change that. Even when you sign a great player who works hard you are pissing into the wind. The Jets have had a terrible LB corps since they signed CJ Mosley. He was hurt year one, sat out year two and watched the front 7 he was supposed to anchor suck balls in year 3. That's strike 1, 2 and 3 on the topic of veteran free agents help build teams.
Hunter Henry had a 609 yard, 9 TD season for the Pats and played all 17 games. I agree, the long term answer should be a draft pick, but rookie TE's usually don't make much of an impact. There's no Kyle Pitts in this draft. Need a guy who can contribute in 2022.
Actually rookie TE's are one of the most impactful *this year* picks you can make. TE's produce earlier at a higher level than most other positions. However they also are among the earliest positions to retire.
I got this feeling that James Conner is going to get considerably more than 6 million. Also, any good edge is going to be expensive. With all the money we got tied up with Lawson I'm not sure how much we'll pay another FA. It feels like this is the year to draft one, or more.
I can think of Shockey, Gronk, Pitts as TE's who produced in year 1. Gonzalez, Kelce, Kittle, and Andrews didn't produce until their second or third years in the league. Clark's first big year was his fifth in the league. Waller broke out in his fourth year.
Production in year 1 from rookie TEs is the exception, not the norm. Dude has no idea what he's talking about; it's become increasingly obvious over the last 4 months.
