I think the point is experienced head coach does not mean a better coach as noted by the list. The right coach GM combination is how you build a successful franchise. Starting over every 2-3 years does not help either. The Dolphins just did us a big favor firing Flores. They will now be starting over. (New Scheme, New Verbiage, different expectations etc)

Qbs get better playing in the same system for multiple season. I also understand the need for success but I do not like change for the sake of change. Let this play out and give these guys a chance to see their vision. We do need to see major progress this upcoming season.

    Offense
    The QB should be better
    OL should be better
    Wr- should be better
    RB- Should be better
    OC should be better

This is we do not add anyone

    Defense

DL- With Lawson coming back should be better
    LB- We need help badly
    Safety- Need help
    CB- Should be better

on paper because of experience in the system we should be better. How many more wins is that ( 2-4). Add draft and free agency we should be looking at 8+ wins. In the NFL you never know with injuries and the ball bouncing weird ways.

I am optimistic but then again I am always optimistic until we start losing again. Zach is a big key to success next season.

The only way you could reasonably draw a conclusion of second chance head coaches being a bad idea would be if you compare their success rate against first time head coaches.

I would tend to agree that it seems as though second chance coaches seems like an overall bad idea but there are a lot of factors to consider including their age, experience and roster makeup/situation they walked into.

Example - three of these coaches walked into the worst franchise in the league at the time which is the Browns.

It's time to win. No doubt about it. Here is the thing though: The Jets will win. That is how the NFL works. How much? I don't know. Obviously injuries could play a factor again, but if they can avoid that, they will be a 7 to 10 win team. Closer to 10 than 7 too. I've said it before: It is hard to win in the NFL, but not as hard as the Jets have made it look in recent years. Joe Douglas continues to improve the roster. We know we have 4 impact players being drafted early. Carl Lawson is returning. Becton is returning. They will add a few other pieces in Free Agency. Wilson, AVT, Moore, and Carter all returning with experience. Same with the coaching staff. The Jets will no longer be a simple green check mark on team's schedules..... starting NOW.

apparently he lost a power struggle with the GM…and without any inside knowledge, it sure feels like they kept the wrong guy…

Miami fans are livid. Some don't mind the firing but all of them feel their GM (Grier) should be fired as well.

    lets go back 10 years

    League Champions:
    2011 Giants - Coughlin (retread)
    2012 Ravens- Harbaugh
    2013 Seahawks - Carroll (retread)
    2014 Pats - Belichick (retread)
    2015 Broncos - Kubiak (retread)
    2016 Pats - Belichick (retread)
    2017 Eagles - Pederson
    2018 Pats - Belichick (retread)
    2019 Chiefs - Reid (retread)
    2020 Bucs - Arians (retread)

people talk out their asses about not hiring "retreads" but they are just wrong. There is something to be said for experience obviously. Only 2 coaches in 10 years won it all at their 1st stop? come on now

Most of those retreads (If not all) took teams to the playoffs in their first go around. Caroll won a national championship. So retreads with playoff experience? We need to expand the list to get an accurate picture as we are only talking about 5 retread coaches.

This is almost as relevant as bringing up Bruce Coslet....

Carrol coached the Jets one year and then went to college for 9 years.

BB had the greatest QB to ever play the game and without him he's won dick. Meanwhile, Brady won another SB sans BB. I will give credit where credit is due and say BB is an excellent coach. But he's almost 1/3 of you list.

Overall though, I'd say all of these coaches are too short ;)

One would think your age comments would be accurate, but actually, what I'm seeing is that the older the poster, the more patient and understanding, and the younger the poster, the less patient and understanding, and more critical.

Who is that? I'm 67. If he has 10 years on me, he may already be dead, just hasn't laid down yet. LOL

Even this year if healthy I believe we could have won 6 games. When Moore played (mid season) he scored a TD in 6 of 7 games, 1 rush, 5 receiving this would be a big boost to the offense if he can stay healthy. Next year's schedule will be more challenging than this year, but the team will be in its second year of knowing the systems, no excuses. I don't have a mandate of playoffs or bust but I feel 7-8 wins would be a good improvement over 4-13. If we reach the that goal in 2022 then I would expect us to be a contender for the playoffs in 2023. Continuity with CS, (same system), & player experience, ala Zach & Moore, & Oline & RB, will play a big part in our success next year. The beginning of the season the offense looked lost, But we played much better towards the end of the season, except week 18. Putting Laflaur in the booth made him a much better play caller, live & learn. I feel good about the future of the Jets.

I do hope that Lawson, and Becton both return. With Becton it’s all self discipline. Lawson hopefully is able to regain his burst, but that’s far from being automatic.
