Better teams should be more conservative on 4th downs because they shouldn't want the outcome of the game to hinge on a single play. And it's the other way around for worse teams.
We lost but could have been up by 7 with 2 minutes remaining, nobody knows what happens next, we do know we went for it and lost. Look, I am not arsed as the draft pick is probably more use to us anyway but I'd rather have the points in the bag, we couldn't lose in normal time by taking the kick instead of that dumb as fuck QB sneak.
Like I said we lost, the play was pathetic, if they had tossed it in the EZ then maybe fair enough but a QB sneak
we could have. we also could have missed the FG, they could have scored a TD and went for 2. lots of things could have happened but we made the right call even if it didn't work out
as we should have. it should have never even been that close. we got a good game. zach is improving and we didn't hurt our draft spot.
Indeed but everybody else has pre sight in knowing that we are going to let Brady score 7 and then lose in OT. But it isn't hindsight if you were shouting go for fucking 3 at the time, it is all in the game thread and I am not the only one that was screaming for them to take the 3. But yeah we lost after playing well, certainly a good 1st half, a little bit less so 2nd and we keep our draft pick high lol
This explaining it away as though he followed a direct order from the OC is total BS. He saw what he thought was the best opportunity and took it but he was unaware they needed 2 yards--no one sneaks for 2 yards in this situation--even Josh Allen. ZW lack of situational awareness is what occurred and post-analysis based on coaches explanations is like getting your info from Baghdad Bob.
When we were up by 2 TDs I said we were gonna blow it and lose the game. when brady got the ball back at the end I said he was gonna score a TD and win it. Had we kicked the 3 I probably would have been right a 3rd time.
he ran the play as intended. the play call is for 1 to go, not 2 to go. MLF apparently modified it to remove the option and just hand it off to berrios but didn't replay that across or maybe assumed zach would just know to do that. zach ran the play as intended based on how the d-line lined up. we wouldn't have made it even in 1 to go. TB closed up that hole instantly and LDT and feeny could do nothing to move them back even an inch
The way I understood it, was that if the A gap was open, the play should be a QB sneak. Like, that's the rule for when they run that play. The A gap was slightly open, so Zach did what he had learned regarding that play. Should have been more aware an optioned out? Probably, but he's a rookie and mistakes happen. The coaches only ever intended for this to be an Berrios run, regardless of the defensive alignment. This was communicated poorly by the coaching staff. Seems like an honest mistake, but definitely a shame that it lost them this game. Although this is probably a blessing in disguise with the draft pick.
I agree with the bolded part of your statement. Saleh implied the OC did not explicitly negate the possibility of a sneak and therefore bad communication. But the OC didn't explicitly negate clocking the ball either--why not? Because its understood that would be utterly inappropriate in the situation. It's not possible to tell an individual all the things he shouldn't do--you have to trust the person to use common sense. So Zach wasn't told that in this situation the sneak does not apply as an option--the OC assumed ZW had the wherewithal to understand that without being told.
that makes sense. I mean it's likely it would have worked if he gave it to berrios but still an odd call to use a 1 yard play on a 4th and 2 instead of rolling the pocket and letting zach play hero ball and give him the chance to make a play with his legs or arm.
Despite the focus on one dumb play... it would be nice if we had a defense that could stop a 93 yard desperation drive. I've said it over & over... our defense is the predominant reason we lose games.
well were missing a lot of player on what was already an undertalented defense. we need to add talent. it was also tom brady who's the best all time at game winning drives
Cover 2 is the exact type of coverage you want to run there, you just have to execute. Brady has made a career out of dicing up defenses in a 2 minute drill. The Corner is covering underneath to make a tackle in bounds. Your worst case scenario is not right. It's not bad play calling, it's lack of talent. The Jets just need better players than Elijah Riley at safety.
Bad safety play with a little bit of bad Ulbrich too. It was a drive where everyone in the stadium knew they had to pass deep to the sidelines and we just let them complete deep sideline pass after deep sideline pass until they won.
Oh yeah... I realize the problems we have on defense. You could say the same thing about the offense... we should have iced the game in the 4th qtr. with a few more 1st downs.
