agreed. It’s been a forgettable, disaster of a year. The only memorable part of the season was the Bengals game. If we give out MVPs to 4 win teams then it should go to the guy with the best performance of the season
Mike White only played 2 games and one was good but the other was a 54.55% completion, 0 TD and 4 INT game. Why in the world are people still in love with Mike White. If literally all it takes to make you love a guy is 1 good win why aren’t people still crying about Mark Sanchez or Ryan Fitzpatrick? Or Sam Darnold or Geno Smith? He had 1 good game when defenses didn’t know who he was, and then 1 awful game which was somehow statistically worse than any game Wilson has had.
Probably yes if he didn’t get injured late to be honest. The best player on the team at an important position… Not his fault that the rest of the DL was ineffective for large chunks of the season. I’ll settle on Bryce Hall.
Bad topic. There's no reason at all to contrive an MVP contest for this season simply because it is customary to do so.
Seriously though, I believe the Jets were on the verge of quitting when Zach went down. The performances had been getting worse and worse, culminating in the 54-13 blowout loss to the Pats. The team was on the verge of dissolving into a total puddle of suck. Then White came in and looked semi-competent in a lost cause in the Patriots game. The next week he had the best game the Jets have had in at least 5 seasons. The locker room was spontaneously chanting "Mike White!" when he walked through. The team had revived during his short reign as starting QB. Then of course he got hurt - Jet's luck - and he proved incapable of managing the pressure of being the Jets QB in the blowout in Buffalo against a great defense. It wasn't on the field that he failed although he had a terrible performance against a pressing defense. It was afterwards with the media where he essentially broke down and started pointing fingers. Your QB can't do that and still lead and he really can't do that if he's throwing the coaches under the bus. A more veteran HC would have taken him aside after that and blistered him in private about blaming others for his own poor performance. He might well have gotten another chance from that HC, because face it, the Jet's QB's all sucked this year - the rookie sucking the worst. However Robert Saleh and Matt LaFleur are rookies also and they just shifted to Joe Flacco for a game and then back to Zach. This despite Zach being the lesser likely successful path forward for the Jets at this point. Again, the big deal though was the Jets were still a team when Zach took the reins back. It probably all falls apart after the Patriot blowout loss if Zach is under QB the next week as the Bengals destroy the Jets. And BTW I hate taking repeated shots at Saleh and Wilson but they really are the total suck and the GM who provided them is not much better. I've watched crappy Jets football for most of my life and particularly in the last decade. I've seen all the signs over that 50 year period and we're there again: rock bottom. Just like all the other times the owners are as much a part of the problem as anybody else and I am sick to death of watching this crap.
I went with Fant - he played well after Becton went down and if we had been relying on Edogah all season - well we saw how that went today.
Berrios. Yeah there are other deserving candidates like Fant, Carter, Hall, and IMO Zach, but Berrios has made an impact every time he touched the ball. His "never say die" attitude and effort are something all the players should be emulating - and I think they are as evidenced by today's game. ''
It most definitely has been the boy from the U. JD better get off his ass and resign this guy. He puts it all on the field.
Berrios was the one constant throughout the entire season. I remember when all the talking heads were saying "When Berrios is your #1 receiver, you know you're in trouble!". Well look at him now. Still making plays on offense and ST. Pro Bowl snub. 5'9" baller. Hand him the team MVP.... and sign that beast.
Mosley rightfully named team MVP. He was fantastic this year but a lot of folks went into the season with a preconceived notion and couldn't get past it.
Was just about to post that it has to be Mosley. Was best player on a terrible team, and seemingly the only one who could tackle at points. I’m seeing now that he got it. Good call.
