In this exercise, the Jags offer #1 in exchange for #4 and #36 and #38. We still have #6 available for trade back to recoup some of the losses…. Of We have too many holes to trade up
I’d have to agree. The Jets have too many holes to trade up. This is the year to either stay put and fill as many holes as possible or trade down but not too far (that would also mean not much in return). While missing out on the top pass rushers would suck there are a couple “2nd tier” guys worth looking at.
No, this team has too many holes to trade up. If anything, I'd explore trading down one of the 1st rounders to increase picks for 2022 and possibly 2023.
I’m not outright against trading up at some point in the draft. But not in the top 5. And trading down early is a better idea. One of those guys are great if they are there for the taking but they aren’t the end all be all. Keep in mind the Jets already have their 2 starting DE’s in Lawson and Franklin-Myers. Everyone goes on and on about putting JFM at 3 tech but people don’t seem to realize that is for pass rush downs, not all 3 downs. He’s a 5 tech early down Edge who kicks in to 3 tech on Rush downs. That’s one of the reasons I’m fine with a designated pass rush specialist who can develop into a 3 down player… because that’s going to be the rookie’s primary role anyway.
Looking at past drafts, it looks like our #6 pick is more of a target than #4. With our 1st 2 picks I’d be ok with walking away with: S - Hamilton WR - Williams OL - Kinnard and with our 2 2nd rd picks: EDGE - Enagbare LB - Bonitto TE in the 3rd, Depth in the 4th+
At night I dream about Nick Bonitto at LB and coming down to the line on passing downs when you kick JFM on the inside.
Nah, I don't think so. And I say that as someone who values the top two players way higher than everyone else. There is just way too much potential for the two second round picks (even for the Jets). After a great pick of Moore last year, I'm willing to give JD a chance to duplicate that. Personally, I'd try my hardest to trade back from four. I'm not in love with that spot if the two pass rushers are gone.
You spelled Wilson wrong but other than that sounds good to me. Also, I do t think it’s a lock that we miss one of 2 edges by picking 4.
Re your last sentence - if the Jets finish at the #3 spot does that chance your opinion? Maybe the two pass rushers are gone but Neal is still an option? Or still trade down?
The draft always surprises me but the 2 consensus top players are both at the 2nd most important position in the game. I don’t think any of the top 3 teams go QB and besides the top EDGEs I don’t see anyone trading up… anything’s possible but I don’t see a pathway for us to get an EDGE at 4…. 3 could be a different story.
Good question. If it cost a third rounder to flip with the second pick, I'd probably do that to get Hutchinson/Kayvon. I dont know what it would cost to move up one pick, considering its not for a QB.,
I can see Jax taking Neal and Texans taking a qb or trading out to a team that loves a qb. I think Detroit takes Hutch. Of course Houston could do us a huge solid and win this Sunday and then we’re sitting pretty.
I could see JAX taking an OL but last week showed protection isn’t their #1 issue. I’d sooner see JAX taking a WR before OL.
There is no way Jacksonville is taking a WR 1st overall. I don’t think holding up to a Jets DL that featured Nathan Shepherd and crew as starters is proof that their offensive line is good either.
They get ettiene(sp) back and they were missing shenault last week. I can see them adding weapons later but not with 1st pick.
