You love rankings and Wilson is ranked 19th in QBR. You want to give up multiple first round picks and for a 33 year old coming off his worst season that you’ll also have to pay 37+40 mil per year? Bizarre stance.

I think 7 pro bowls & a SB title is enough to determine that he's actually pretty good. If Zach Wilson ever gets there (he wont), I would never argue that he's not good. That would be stupid

Twice now you’ve ignored the multiple first round picks and amount of money you’d tie up in acquiring a 33 year old coming off the worst year of his career.

Well "multiple 1st round picks" is opinion, not fact, and the Jets have a lot of cap room. I'd be down for spending it on someone who would get us out of last place for once.... maybe we even GASP! end up in the playoffs.:eek::eek:

besides, I was responding to the poster who said Russell Wilson was "truly awful"

You guys think the Rams are regretting their decision with Goff? Should they have held onto him and not traded for Stafford???
    --

Goff was no.1 overall and accomplished a lot more than Zach Wilson has. Not supposed to give up on a guy like that for a 33 year old coming off his worst season. Stupid Rams might win the stupid super bowl

Goff played for the Rams for 5 years and they gave him a massive contract extension after 4. He was a Pro Bowler in his second and third years. Went to the Super Bowl in his third year. All after having a bad year 1. Not sure you have the “gotcha” moment you thought you had here.

I am not a Wilson believer, but the Jets have to give him another season. When the Rams made that decision they knew what Goff was. Who’s to say Zach Wilson doesn’t turn into Stafford who also struggled his first couple seasons in the NFL.

Its' an even better situation here! we dont have to give up on Zach Wilson cause he's making peanuts. He can stay and compete, learn from a guy like Russell Wilson

I haven’t even broached the topic of Russell Wilson having to agree to be traded to whatever team he’s being traded to. A few weeks ago there was a short list reported and the Jets weren’t on it. The Giants were, and that would just be absolutely hilarious.

Russell Wilson makes no sense for this Jets team right now. Wilson needs to go to a team like Stafford did that already has everything in place and can afford to give up the draft picks. The Jets need these draft picks to get everything in place for the QB. If Wilson can’t win with Seattle’s roster he certainly won’t win with the Jets.

Yes go with the rookie worst passer rating in the league over the future first ballot Hall of Famer in the prime of his career having one down season. Not that Russell would ever play for us anyway (plus the price tag would be really steep), but this is taking recency bias and overrating Jets players to a whole new level.

It’s not recency bias. The Jets would be paying Russ for what he could do the next 3-5 years in NY not what he’s done for the previous ten years in Seattle. This season certainly needs to factor into the evaluation.

It's a tough spot for Douglas and Saleh. You want to give your #2 overall pick the keys to the car season 2 after starting season 1 but if he goes out and bombs they're both going to have a lot of flames at their feet. The media and fans will not quietly sit back and watch another 4 win season listening to Saleh talk about how things are going to flip soon. The players aren't going to put up w/that shit either if they know the QB is the reason they aren't winning.

I think you have to bring in a veteran like Foles or Bridgewater or <insert name here> who can win games in the NFL, but you don't necessarily need to have a competition. IMO you hand the keys to Wilson and have to have a pretty solid plan to take them away if things continue to look real bad for too long.

That’s exactly what they will do IMO. Bring in a proven vet who is content with being a backup and is better than the corpse of Joe Flacco.

No chance it's a competition. Wilson is the starter week 1 2022. Whether or not that is the right thing to do is highly debatable.

If Zach Wilson can't win a real competition in camp next year he's not going to win much in the regular season either and that's going to push Douglas and Saleh right out the door at the end of the season.

The Jets have to have a real QB competition in camp next year. The current regime's jobs depend on it.

From Joe Douglas perspective it is much worse to throw ZW onto the field next year and have him fail than to bring in a real competitor for the job and have ZW lose it that way. In both cases the ZW pick was a failure but in the first one Douglas response to that failure is hiding under a pile of coats in the corner. In the second one he is at least trying to rectify the mistake.

I don’t see it. Starting Nick Foles/Colt McCoy isn’t going to save them. Their best chance is for Wilson to eventually figure it out and start looking good.

There's limited snaps to go around. You really want to limit the 2nd year QB coming off his first full offseason?

What QBs would you bring in for such a competition? They'd really have to blow the doors off Wilson to win which would make any competition mostly a farce. I seem to remember Wilson looking much better in camp/preseason than he has during the season ...

Agreed with everything except that it’s got to be a real competition. Zach Wilson has to be able to beat out a Winston, Foles, Bridgewater, Brisset, or Fitzpatrick type in his second year. (It is totally reasonable to expect a second-year second-overall QB to be able to beat out a backup-type QB.) And the Jets have to know that Zach can do that.
