I think it was Carter and you really can’t dog him for that. If the qb goes into a slide he gets 15 yards just for breathing on him.
He wasn’t guilty of that, but aside from dropping a gift wrapped INT, he completely whiffed on an open field tackle on Gaskin when it was 17-17 and the Dolphins were on our 23 yard line on the last play of the 3rd Q. Just got undressed in the middle of the field. Commercial break saved him from being spotlighted by the announcers. A few plays later … 24-17. He might be the worst tackler I’ve ever seen.
Stud Davis is a hard hitter. No wait, he's a ball hawk preventing anything deep. No wait, I'm Ron Burgundy?
And your official Jets Block award for most courageous player is... yep, everyone's favourite backup safety.
I would love to know what the qualifications are for this award. I mean I guess it takes courage to take such horrendous angles that you're risking giving up 50 yards TD runs and catches. Lord knows he had the courage to do that plenty of times.
I very much doubt that this guy will be starting again for us bar injury next season. Hope the kid gets his first proper off season in and comes back to TC with some better understanding of the position. If not, well we've shown we can pick up the same level of talent on the street. Backup maybe his role ultimately. But the staff wanted to see Pinnock and by all accounts he had another good week last week.
i think he was seen as a rotational guy... good story... ends up being CLOSE to making plays then doesn't make them... hard to watch
He’s basically been what he’s always been. Solid in coverage as a deep safety but not a good tackler and bad angles, he really hasn’t improved much. Pinnock seems to love contact and will get dirty in the trenches to help in run support. Kinda hope JP gets an extended look at FS Sunday.
general DB play comment: i've noted that our guys, a decent %-age of the time they get beaten- are actually in pretty good position but DONT get their head around in time. anyone else see/note this?
I hope that's the last we see of Stud Davis. He's the worst safety I've ever seen. I thought he absolutely would be back, but I'm not sure anymore. The CS seemed to prefer to have literally anyone else play safety but him. He may come back last in the depth chart, can't imagine more. Davis is not a football player, and he's definitely scared out there. He pulled up on a tackle allowing a huge run in the first. He's also always just a step behind instinctually, and I do believe again it's because he's nervous about getting rung. The players in the NFL are too big for him to overcome mentally.
As most of us have known all year, he doesn’t belong on an NFL field. Just cut him outright. Don’t even let him into camp.
Dude will be at training camp and has to win a Job. same with Mims, Zuniga and Clark. Prove you've put in the work and a better player than this year. Sent from my M2007J20CG using Tapatalk
You're exactly right another thing I hate about the Jets. They always want to convert a player to another position. If you want a box safety draft one. I thought Davis was too small for safety but he was very athletic and could have played corner. But we'll never know. But I'm sure he will find a roster and do better on his next team.
Davis took a horrible angle on the big Singletary run on Buffalo's 1st TD drive. I don't understand why Saleh puts his safety 30 yards deep, it seems pretty stupid to begin with but when the running back breaks through the line that safety has to come up and stop the runner. When he takes the wrong angle like Davis did/does, you are playing 10 on 11. They benched him for Pinnock a lot after that but it shoulda been permanent
