At 2:46:30 of this high stakes poker game at the Hustler in LA (a serious game, featuring Tom Dwan)... a big hand develops between two very aggressive players. Meanwhile, beneath the commentary, this random guy starts talking about dining recently at a restaurant on Long Island. He says he noticed a young guy with a "canadian accent" sitting near him. The guy got into a conversation with Matt Barzal and still doesn't know it. This anecdote lasts about a minute. Check it out. Amusing.
No reason to watch tonight. The team is boring enough and the season from hell continues. (8) New York Islanders on Twitter: "#Isles Update: Mat Barzal has been placed in COVID protocol." / Twitter
In advance of Robin Lehner's return to the Island, he has taken to Twitter to praise the Islanders fanbase for their support of him. https://nyihockeynow.com/lehner-praises-islander-fans-long-island-addiction-masterton-jennings/
The good news is Walhstrom, Bellows, and Dobson are starting to show real progress playing at this level.
That’s all the season is about at this point, with Sorokin becoming the definitive #1. It doesn’t even look like this is going to end up a real season anyways, so play for next year. With the cap space we have, and if Autu Raty can make it over and match his promise, this team will be right back next year.
You’re assuming Trotz would even give him playing time, he’s going to be stuck on the third line while Bailey is getting most of the playing time. Look at how Walstrohm has been treated by Trotz, that’s exactly how Raty will be treated.
The way the Isles are going they could pause it all the way till next Oct and start with a new season.
This season has shown that the veteran lineup of this team has been maximized and can’t be depended upon as the foundation for future championship level success. Only an influx of elite free agents or development of elite prospects will turn this team around next year; I have to believe Trotz knows this as well.
A few weeks ago I was wondering if the Islanders were ever going to win another game. Now I'm wondering if they're ever going to play another game.
