I know everyone is excited by the draft, but how about some good candidates from free agency next year? Any Ideas?
Tight end. Dalton Schultz, Mike Gesicki, O.J. Howard, Mo Alie-Cox, Hayden Hurst, and David Njoku. Get one of those guys please for the love of God, I'm tired of watching the Ryan Griffins and Tyler Krofts of the world playing TE for the Jets.
100%. Target a guy in the 3rd round that is a solid blocker and has potential as a receiving threat. I have no idea who's available, I'm still focusing on the season.
Mark Glowinski (G, Colts) although he plays next to a bunch of really good players. Anthony Walker (ILB, Browns) was really good for the Colts last year and I wanted us to grab him. No idea if he’s had a good year this year. Marcus Williams (FS, Saints) is likely to get paaaid but he’s a really good ball player. Jayron Kearse (S, Cowboys) has had a good year I believe. There’s always a million corners available and they’re inconsistent. Good year in a contract year and then a bad year the next. I think I’m done with the free agent receiver that’s 27. It seems like the best strategy is to draft a receiver and let them grow in the system with the quarterback. Rather than bringing in mercenaries (Golladay, Allen Robinson, Corey Davis, Tyrell Williams, etc.) that get paid and don’t produce enough value past year one to be worth it.
I'm a draft on Offense and augment Defense through FA kinda guy. Here are my top 3 targets -Akiem Hicks, Chicago Bears...Dude reminds me of Kris Jenkins in terms of body and demeanor. -Anthony Walker Jr., Cleveland Browns- Very athletic LB who is a LEO (born 8/8). Athletic Leos are Alphas - Jessie Bates III, S, Cincinnati Bengals- Isn't overly flashy but is instinctive FS who is always around the ball
A-List guys don't hit FA that often and when they do, they get overpaid. What's wrong with the list of TEs I put out there? They're all legitimate NFL starters.
Uzomah, Gerald Everett and Ty Conklin are out there too. There’s no good reason as to why we shouldn’t have a NFL tightend on the roster next year.
Which of our free agents would you want to make an effort to re-sign (as opposed to resign....) - not a complete list but the bigger contracts or more interesting players: - Marcus Maye - Jamison Crowder - Laurent Duvernay-Tardif - Alex Lewis - Jarrad Davis - Keelan Cole - Morgan Moses - Dan Feeney - LaMarcus Joyner - Tyler Kroft - Conor Mcdermott - Tevin Coleman - Quincy Wilson - Mike White - Foley Fatukasi - Braxton Berrios
FWIW ( less than a tuppence) - Laurent Duvernay-Tardif - Keelan Cole - Mike White - Foley Fatukasi - Braxton Berrios
- Marcus Maye - Jamison Crowder - Laurent Duvernay-Tardif - Alex Lewis - Jarrad Davis - Keelan Cole - Morgan Moses - Dan Feeney - LaMarcus Joyner - Tyler Kroft - Conor Mcdermott - Tevin Coleman - Quincy Wilson - Mike White - Foley Fatukasi - Braxton Berrios Yup, some of those I could have struck through twice if I could, I'm looking at you Feeney you beer-chugging waste of oxygen.
I’m not saying he’s been the issue or hasn’t been. But someone’s been the issue at stopping the run this year and even if not the problem, I can’t imagine Fatukasi has been any good. I know for a fact he was awful against the Colts because I watched him get repeatedly trap blocked. Moses & LDT seems like they should both come back and won’t be too expensive. Berrios should also be brought back that little white bugger.
Nothing at all. At this point a scarecrow could play better TE than the scrubs we have. Out of that group, we'll get the cheapest guy and roll with him. Its what we do... Cap space is more important than winning.
You’re belaboring this point a little bit. I don’t think you’re completely wrong but I also don’t think you’re completely right either. We’ve spent some money. It’s just been terrible money spent. If Davis was the same version as the guy from the Titans, and Jarred Davis didn’t turn out to be a loser, it might be a different discussion.
I think the run defense issues stem from how hard the DL attacks upfield, when they’re this bad, it’s more than just one player. They’re horrendous against traps and counters because they make their own holes and they don’t have the All-Pro LBs needed to make up for it. The defensive scheme the Jets have is meant to be playing ahead on the scoreboard as it tries to limit explosive plays, but the defense just isn’t good at anything right now.
I like Uzomah as a solid option and can start. Everett is moreso of a receiving type. Kinda like Brate as well. Grab one of these guys and draft one.
Sidenote, kinda speaks to me that Yeboah hasn’t gotten an ounce of PT on offense besides when Griffin got hurt and they had to put a TE out there for the last quarter a few games back.
Crowder (doubt he'll come back so replace him with Cole who is capable of making some insane catches and is not really a bad slot option, and can move around) LDT Moses Joyner (possibly) Kroft Foley White Berrios (keep this guy til his wheels fall off)
