My expectations weren't that high. I just expected to replace our 32 ranked QB with a QB ranked 31st or higher. It hasn't happened, but it could be because I'm not patient.
While Josh Allen was struggling a little with accuracy he was still scampering down the field better than any Jets RB of the last 10 seasons.
28 picks his rookie season, which was a rookie record. However he also threw 26 TD's, which was... A rookie record. BTW, nobody thought Peyton Manning was anything but an ascending star off of that season. The disappointment with him started to show up about 5 years later when despite being an All-World QB he couldn't seem to win a playoff game for his life.
So, the "floor" is the worst quarterback in the league. Great job kid, you've shown us how bad you can be! Those were my bare minimum expectations as well. At least he can't get worse than 32nd...or can he?
I wanted to stick woth darnold and then i wanted fields. Overall im disappointed in zach we've seen some flashes of good stuff and a lot of bad. The bad stuff comes on some simple plays. I hope he can grow.
Not highly recruited out of high school. One good year in college in a very strange season. Sucks in the pros. Those 3 things really seem to go together.
I've seen many lost cause QB's in the NFL. I don't see that with Zach Wilson at all, so I am not sure why some fans want to label him a Bust already. I don't see it with Trevor Lawrence or Justin Fields either, despite their early struggles. In fact, I feel the opposite. They have all showed potential and have plenty of room to grow as their teams build around them. I've said it before but Zach already knows how to do the tough stuff. He is struggling with the easy stuff right now. That is a problem I don't mind having, because once that stuff clicks with him, he will be truly difficult to defend. The game has not slowed down for him yet. When it does, we will be able to see his true potential on the field. Joe Douglas needs to keep improving the roster too. Not too many QB's can carry their teams. He needs a better team around him. He needs a defense that forces 3 and out's and turnovers instead of 10 minute drives that completely throw off his rhythm. The Jets are doing everything wrong as a team right now yet fans expect the rookie QB to succeed anyway? This is common sense stuff.
He's played NINE games but yes, his lack of high school recruiting buzz is really the reason he's struggling w/accuracy. I think NFL scouts should throw away all college tape and only consider HS recruiting when they draft players.
Today I've learned: Our GM isn't really Joe Douglas - its Ozzy Newsome. Our Coach isn't really Robert Saleh - its Chuck Knoll. Our QB isn't really Zach Wilson - its Peyton Manning. Must be a Tuesday.
Indeed, so probably not the best comparison to Zach, at least Allen had one facet of his game to rely on until he got the other part going, not saying Wilson isn't going to make it but I am not sure Allen was missing 5-yard throws by throwing them at WR's ankles, I am waiting to be corrected as I am not a Bills fan so highlights is all I have seen bar his games v us. Zach doesn't look much of a runner, he left a lot on the pitch in two runs for definite, possibly 20 yards on one of them, sliding way too early (protecting his knee, possibly?), an easy first down on another went begging, sure there was another but who's counting
The thing I find painful when watching him is that he is missing the easy passes even when he has time. Not that he is not finding them in his reads, but he is just throwing out terrible passes. He had several on Sunday that were short, behind or over the head of the receiver even when they where in space. The Receiver he had most success with was Berrios, and it seemed that was because Berrios would get open then sit down. So Wilson could hit him with a zip pass. Any passed that needed some touch or to lead the receiver so he could get YAC were either behind the receiver or low. He does seem to be a bit better at getting rid of the ball, escaping the pressure by stepping up and going through his progressions. But His sheer lack of touch on the simple passes is very worrying to me.
oh allen was missing lots of easy throws. even going back to college/ obviously he's a better runner then zach though
Mike White had just as much experience playing as Zach Wilson coming Into this year. They have the exact same amount of experience learning this offense. This means nothing to me, especially when Zach Wilson Is supposed to be so much more talented than any of our QB's, yet, you don't see It on Sunday's. Instead, I am constantly feeling like If we were playing Joe Flacco or Mike White, we probably win a few of these games. It's not even about being right or wrong anymore. I just hate that Wilson hasn't given any of us much reason to be hopeful In the NFL. He just hasn't, I just hope he shows something with these next four games. Something other than shitty QB play.
No, I'm just not making excuses for him. Again... You didn't see these issues with the backups. If you think about the common denominator, It's, Wilson. OL has had major slide protection Issues with Wilson under center. Do you know who is primarily responsible for slide protection issues amongst the OL? It's not the RG. I don't think they were actually all that bad, It wasn't perfect, but, I don't think It was as bad as many assumed. It blows my mind just how good this offense looked with Wilson out of the lineup, then he comes back, all of a sudden the same issues arise again? Ummm... That's not a red flag to you? No way has everyone just improved that significantly with him out, then revert back to their old ways when he comes back. That doesn't make any sense. I don't need to argue anything other than the results on the field. They have been below average with Wilson under center. How can anyone say otherwise? My opinion Is that he hasn't played well, he hasn't shown he Is our future FQB, and he most certainly hasn't had a statement game to this point. It's not like I'm just ragging on the kid to rag on him, the proof Is In the pudding, regardless of the wall of excuses you or anyone else wants to hide behind right now.
You realize Josh Allen is probably a top 3 most talented QB and he didn’t even get a D1 offer right? He had to go to a junior college and then got only 1 offer, from Wyoming.
