How about when he held up/jumped over Hill on a gang tackle at the first down marker? Or when he was carried into the end zone by Kamara? Or when he whiffed on the receiver running down the sideline? I may not have still images or all 22 tape, but these things still happened.
I get that he's trying to utilize their versatility at another position, but if they are "versatile" players (usually athletic freaks), why not use that versatility where you're deficient in talent? I'm in the same boat as you, we shouldn't ask questions! (edit to be clear- it's technically only Nasirildeen, Sherwood is done for the year)
max is going to do the back 7 this week so he'll know more of how he did overall since we alternate so i'm going the trenches this week. I'm not saying you are wrong what i'm saying is perception is reality. i'll tell you a funny story. back many years ago like 15-20 I worked at this company. and the president was well kinda a dick and he had this thing where he would walk around the building every hour and that was his management. so basically he seen what people were doing for about 8 minutes during an 8 hour work day and judged them soley on that. So one time he goes to one of the guys who was at the counter and was like why do I only see you standing at this counter is this all you do all day, so he said the only time I ever see you is in the bathroom so I guess all you do is pee all day. The point of that story is that just because you see what someone does for less then 1% of the game doesn't mean that's how they were the whole game.
True story, I think a lot of people in this thread think you say he's not bad because of exactly what is described in your story above.
i mean they can think that but i've watched him for most of the games and have been fairly critical and if you check out the jet lag thread me and max go over all the games and who did what and davis has been mostly average. he's just kinda there. he'll have a bad play or 2 in each game and a good play here and there but mostly he just quietly does his job. he's not a great player by any means but he's not awful either. he's been much better then mosley and in many games quincy but quincy makes bigger splashes so people love him here but he's made a ton of mistakes too. jarrad davis and pinnock are by and far our worst 2 players on D but davis is so bad he's typically not in the play when he should be so people don't notice it on the broadcast and often blame his mistakes on somene else. jarrad davis only got 6 snaps last week and his snaps have gone way down due to that
C'mon man... Davis is a reach... he avoids contact and can't tackle. And he can't cover... He’s allowed the highest completion percentage of any defender at 95.5 percent, and his 14.8 yards per target allowed is second-most in the league. He’s allowed the fifth-best quarterback rating of 139.4. Davis has also given up 21 receptions on 22 targets for 326 yards and three touchdowns.
I really have to question that source because I think he's getting dinged for others blown coverage. There were a few plays where he ran all the way to the other side of the field to try and make a play but was too late but it wasn't his job because someone else blew their coverage and typically those stats go to the closest defender. stats can be very deceiving at times. especially on defense. davis is very rarely in any sort of coverage. he mostly plays single high zone over the middle so there is no way that stat is correct
Idk man, I have a buddy I watch basketball with... And this feels the same, like we are watching a totally different game/player simultaneously. He also says he's watched basketball since the 90s, aka longer than me. What I'm saying is, I respect your opinion and knowledge... But that's not impervious. I've watched him a ton too this year, like others have also said, and I've seen with my own eyes for many months and many plays... He's scared to make contact, he can't cover and his angles are laughable when you combine his reservation about contact.
I respect your opinion too but some things you say seem way off. he's never scared for contact. he consistently throws his body around but he doesn't wrap up its why he's good tackling from straight on but sucks at angles. he just throws his body at the guy but doesn't wrap up often leading to missed tackles. He's been overall solid but not great in the run game. he shoots gaps hard but misses a lot of tackles. in coverage he typically plays cover 1 deep over the middle and covers a lot of ground so is often just there preventing the deep play over the middle so rarely seen. lots of potential big plays didn't happen because he simply did his job but things like that don't go on the stat sheet
I mean, its just not true and I'll leave it at that. He could have saved a first down on Hill but jumped over the tackle as it was occurring. He has a runner on the sidelines and instead of squaring up he dove at his ankles and missed entirely. He's never in piles. He braces for contact 7-10 yards away from the runner, I've seen him do this past the first down marker. I think you give him too much credit for just being there... I agree he's just there. Unless he's the last guy or the play goes through his personal space, he's very rarely been involved in a play. He also needs to do things then just exist. These are all things I've seen every game he's taken over a starting sport. It's not one play, one game, one month. Literally the entire time.. and not that it's matters in the context of current play, it was the exact same thing I saw when he got extended time as the end of last year was a rookie.
well if you give me the idea of where the 1st play you mention (jump over) i'll take a look at it and see what happened. as far as the sideline runner goes that lines up with what I said, he throws his body at people instead of wrapping up. when he angles in he misses a lot of tackles due to that. you can see when he squares up he just launches his body
shitty tackler. deon sanders was a shit tackler who shied away from contact in the run game and is a HOFer and considered one of the best CBs all time here is HOFer AJ Green I can made a 10 min reel of OBJ doing it too. so you'll need a better argument then that. it's like saying brady sucks because he isn't mobile. not everyone is a complete player but at least with davis it's something he can learn and improve on hopefully
I don't know what's funnier... Comparing Ashtyn Davis to A.J. Green. Or comparing Ashtyn Davis to A.J. Green by using a clip of A.J. Green pulling up on a tackle...
Instead of making a 10 min. clip reel of a receiver(?) avoiding contact... just make a clip reel of Ashtyn's highlights. Or was that clip of Davis getting a roughing the passer penalty the highlight reel?
If Ashtyn Davis picked off balls like Deion Sanders I’d be ok with him not tackling a damn stationary dummy if he didn’t want to.
