he's been bad at wrapping up tackles but outside of that he's done his job overall well. he does need to learn to tackle better but he's also in year 2 and thrown into the lineup early due to injuries. he'll be a solid player over time ti seems but still getting there and doesn't seem liek he'll ever be above average but he's far from the issue on defense right now

Yeah I’ve been pretty confused about why they won’t use one of them at their natural positions. Good point.

He’s done literally nothing well. He can’t do anything required of a football player other than run. If he’s playing meaningful snaps next year, something went wrong with our offseason.

He took a terrible angle on the last Tayson td--first step was just wrong.

he has but people often don't see it because it's off screen. you should check out jetlag the podcast me and @MaximusD163 just started doing. we review the film and go over the whole game and players.

he also got blocked in the back, had he not he might have made a play. on top of that the game was over already and we sold out to make a desperation stop and it didn't work. hardly the reason for any criticism there at that point in the game and players taking risks they wouldn't in a close game

I’ll check it out, but I’ve watched him in person every home game he’s played this year. He’s routinely the worst defender on the field.

Dude--I respect the hell out of you but that first step was just wrong--he's a safety and job #1 is to prevent that big run. He should have taken a more horizontal angle on his first step.

The cues were all there if the run was to the left--they had 4 receivers to the right and 2 guys to prevent the run to the left--one was going to be blocked and he had to take the less sharp angle to not get caught up in the wash.

clearly you aren't watching the others then. pinnock has by and far been the worst. jarrad davis is a close 2nd. mosley and quincy have looked awful at times.

the problem is confirmation bias really. a safety if they aren't making splash plays are often not seen on a broadcast. they are only seen when they make a mistake so it ignores the 95% of the time he's doing his job correct and focus's on the 5% he may miss a tackle or take a bad angle. I'm not saying he's great, he's got stuff to work on especially tackling which he is horrible at wrapping up but he's not nearly as bad as people make him out to be here

The video quality off that site sucks and I can do it in better quality when the all 22 comes up for you but off the video you posted

1st step is towards the gape where the play is going

matter of fact it was so good, eh completly blows by the 2 guys there to block him and splits them.

so one of the guys literally just grabs him from behind

he had a good shot at stopping that for no gain, mind you I honestly doubt he would have made the tackle as when he comes in on an angle like that he doesn't wrap up and often whiffs on the tackle just throwing his body into the runner but at least slows the runner up. Still it should have been a flag and called back for holding and if he wasn't held he at least was in a good position to make a play there. He didn't do anything wrong on that play

We can agree to disagree then--I appreciate his aggressiveness on the play but his job at safety dictated he played more conservatively on that play IMO.

Imagine the safety on a KO decides to get aggressive in his coverage--even if he makes the tackle he made the wrong play.

Its the "Do your job" mantra

Davis takes the wrong angle because he doesn't want the contact. On that play he is hoping someone else will tackle Hill so he doesnt have to engage. He is the worst fuckin safety I've ever seen at this level

we are down by 14 with 1:15 left in the game. it's 3rd down. it's pretty much over. the only somewhat chance we have at that point is to cause a fumble, return it for a TD, then get an onside kick back, then get a TD in less then 1min just to force OT. conservative is defiantly not the idea on that down in that situation. conservative means you stop the 1st down, they run the clock then pin you inside the 10 with less then 30 seconds left and down by 14. no way we were being conservative there. i'd agree with you if we weren't down by so much with so little time left since it was 3rd and long.

It's a good question. Nasrildeen was a box safety in college in the mold of Jamal Adams (obviously not as good since he was sixth round and Adams 6th overall). Nas would still have some of the issues Davis is having with angles & coverage but there's no way he would be so soft at tackling.

I was wondering the same thing the other day (before my senility caught me and I forgot). We have safeties disguised as linebackers sitting on the bench. In the meantime, our linebacker crew sucks, minus Mosely, and we have no safeties on the field. But hey, what do I know?

Well staff seems to like and use Riley more inside the box and Ash as the deep safety. Hamsah has been active but only in on specials. The Jets started to use a bit more 4-3 packages as of recently, as Jarrad being that 3rd LB, but his usage has been dipping just a tad. Hamsah was getting some time as the 2nd LB way early in the season before getting hurt, it would be interesting to see Hamsah as that hybrid LB/S in the “43” package.
