You absolutely can compare them. A viral video isn't making Lawrence throw boatloads of interceptions.

Fine. Both Zach Wilson and Trevor Lawrence are the same skill level. Does that make you feel better about Zach?

My opinion does not change from game to game. I still think he is going to be great. It will take him playing like this mid-next year for Mr to change my mind. Why is everybody so quick to bury the kid? I like Chad Johnson's take.

You may be right, but when he has a game that reminds us of Darnold we understandably go into trauma management.

Lawrence is just horrible right now, not sure what you are seeing. Zach is horrible as well. I think equally bad.

He didn’t even need a ladder to meet my expectations, just a step stool, and he still hasn’t reached them.

literally every rookie QB has been awful this season outside of jones who gets a safe bellichick led offense that no QB has failed in and that made brady. peopel forget brady wasn't even good his 1st 3 SBs it was bellichick playing it safe and playing defense and outcoaching teams to squeak by. he also went 11-5 with matt cassell the year brady went down. I'm not sure why people expect rookie QBs to have great seasons because 1 out of every 20 or so drafted do

I may also be wrong. The point is we do not really know yet.

since i aint watching...was gonna ask... is the bold still a problem?

and as for developing? i dont really buy it... i think its nascent talent...

i dont believe there are HOFers who were not "developed"

guys like Archie Manning played on bad teams and still were pretty decent...

Not sure about our OL this year - but it has been bottom 5 for a number of years now so I would be surprised to see some huge turnaround

Also I agree "develop" is probably the wrong word - I should have said "the Jets can never identify/land a decent QB" as I also believe that a player is largely who they are when they arrive, it is very rare to see a player get coached into something great.

    badda boom.

i mean... been watching since the mid 70's...

the on;ly examples i can think of that could possibly fall into the coached up are
Styeve Young ( whose shitty 2 years in Tampa look Zach/Tlaw like)
and Rich Gannon... the latter, however, looked pretty good once he stepped on the filed as a b/u in MInny

but yeah, Jets cant ID a good QB. (pass on Marino, pass on Mahomes, and Wilson...)

This week should be interesting, Zack is completing around 30 per of his passes when pressured, and the Fins Blitz almost every play. They have the talent to get to the qb with the blitzes and the dbs to cover wideouts early in their patterns.

I'm disappointed. That said, I think there are a lot of mitigating factors that have impacted him negatively:

    • Poor OL play for the first 5 games before he got hurt, and even his first game back.
    • Rookie CS
    • Lack of consistent receiving corps to throw to.
But he has to bear some blame too. His accuracy has been mediocre. At times he's tried to be the "hero" instead of taking the easier play.

And then there are just the normal growing/learning curves he's going through:
    • Adapting to the speed of the NFL
    • Learning how to read defenses and set the protections.
I admit I was more hopeful than I should've been, but I still believe he's the FQB of the future. He's shown progress, even if some of it is incremental, and like yesterday, hard to see. Still, it's there if you're openminded enough to see it. Yesterday was ugly, but he didn't throw an interception (although that one was close - still, it was a tipped ball), and he made the right reads for the most part. I thought his ball fakes were much improved. Also, I don't think he had the "deer in the headlights" look as he's had some times before. And factoring in that he was missing two of his favorite targets didn't help. He doesn't try to duck responsibility, and he usually lists the things that were a problem for him in his post game pressers so he's aware of what he needs to do to improve - unlike Darnold who always gave the generic "I just have to work harder", which inspired no confidence he knew what he had to work on.

Learning how to be a pro QB is extremely hard. Look at the "can't miss Kid" down in Jacksonville for proof of that. It would've been good if they had signed a decent vet for Zach to sit and learn behind for at least half the season of a full season, but he's having to learn in action. If he can survive that, he should become the FQB we've been looking for for decades.

I disagree that he can't improve the mental/confidence aspect even now. He has shown that he can - like the first half against the Eagles - he just needs to have some successes early in a game to get himself rolling. Yesterday was the exact opposite of that: the multiple drops and poor route running really hurt his confidence. That said, if he had more experience - especially successful experience - stuff like that wouldn't throw him as much. It's going to just take time and repetition, but he'll get there.
