The interesting thing is, the Jets didn't screw up by drafting Wilson. He was the consensus #2 overall pick. Analysts and scouts had him as the top overall pick. This wasn't a Kyle Brady over Warren Sapp/Johnny Lam Jones/Darron Lee/What the fuck were they thinking? kind of pick. It's hard to say that it was a dumb choice to draft Wilson, from that perspective. That being said, I don't understand WHY Wilson was ranked so high. He had only one good year, he didn't play against any elite teams, and nothing I saw made me say "THIS guy is a future Hall of Famer!" Unfortunately, at this point, I hate to give up on rookies, but I have to with Wilson. I'm not seeing any progress. I see some games that are better than others, but no truly good games. Scouts missed some intangibles with him, as they often do. I don't think we're going anywhere with him under center.
Sorry but today Mims was awful and a penalty machine to boot. Route running for Mims appears to be a struggle most always.
After seeing Mike White and Joe Flacco make this offensive scheme look like the real deal, big boy style, NFL type offense... No longer do I use that as an excuse for Zach Wilson. This offense can absolutely be good, we've all seen It with other QB's on this team. Just not with, Wilson. Nah... The kid Is the problem.
Unless something drastically changes with, Wilson. Like, something dumb obvious, where It's like, okay, there It is... Let's go.. That type of shit. This season. JD will lose all credibility with me If he does not find a competent competitor for Zach Wilson In the offseason. I don't care If It's a competent, legit Vet or a QB through the draft. Wilson can not just be given the reigns to this offense again without earning It. At this point, I'm more pissed off that they didn't have a legit competition against a legit veteran QB, than I am of them actually drafting the kid. I'm confident If It was a legit competition, without bias, he would've red shirted this year. I still maintain, I hated the pick, It happened though. Now, fuck man, I just want to be wrong. lol I hope this kid still gets It together. Reality Is, It looks like another set back for us as fans.
And Josh Johnson. So far, Wilson is the only QB who hasn't been able to get this offense moving the way that it's intended to.
Shocking is a pretty good word for the inaccurate short throws by him this year. And I think now with perfect hindsight, even if the Jets still wanted Wilson (which to be honest if they could go back they'd probably shit can him in a second and take the deal the 49ers or Eagles offered which was the right move at the time anyway) they should have given him the Aaron Rodgers or Pat Mahomes treatment, kept Flacco, and let him play all or most of this season while Zach learned, observed, got used to the NFL experience and all that. Total 20/20 hindsight now but he obviously wasn't ready to get thrown in the fire. That first game especially where the OL wasn't ready I think really did him some damage as did just serving him up on a platter to Belichik. That didn't help either imho.
JD will lose credibility with me if he doesn’t see the obvious and move on. Sure, it may have been easier for the Cardinals to do so because they had Kyler Murray at their grasp, but it still took a tremendous amount of honesty and fearlessness of criticism to admit the Rosen mistake and move on quickly rather than exacerbate it and wait for further failure. As you said, the confusing part was why he was rated so high after one season, and not even a Joe Burrows type one season. You’d think GM’s would be immune to the hype of shorts and shoes throws.
just stop enough with the excuses he is bouncing balls halfway to receivers he misses wide open guys half the drops that everyone wants to use as excuses are because the ball is behind the receiver Zach was good damn awful today
Well my last comment on this, I think it is WAY WAY too early to call a guy a bust after 8 games! Especially a QB. There was reason he was drafted 2nd overall, because there is talent. Whether he can translate that, remains to be seen. If he is bust, I suppose all these so called expert talent evaluators on here will be right and we will start over after next year. And we will have at least another few miserable seasons. If he turns out to be great then these so called experts on this board will be wrong, which is what I am pulling for as a fan. Then we would have our FQB! And be respectable. I am going to view the glass half full for now. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Wilson has looked mostly awful so far but its ridiculous to think its reasonable to give up on him completely before his first year is even over. Everyone was crying a river when we won last year and lost our chance at Trevor Lawrence. How did he look Sunday with his 4 INT game? This season is over. Everyone needs to take a deep breath and see how things play out these last few games.
I think we’re all HOPING he develops. but he flat out sucks now…he’s shown so little progress that it’s hard to imagine him succeeding live been waiting to see SOMETHING….anything really… and here we get his first no interception game…which was something I really wanted to see…and it’s hard to say this was progress… his accuracy sucks he looked like dogshit today
Yeah that’s where I’m at…unless there’s an intriguing free agent that isn’t a complete scrub available with some kind of promise (Think Minshew type) If you absolutely love a QB in the 1st then take him , but more realistic is what you said. This is all assuming he doesn’t improve a good bit in these last few games. It’s weird, but he looks very good for a rookie as far as pocket awareness, escaping pressure, and some long or difficult throws, but his inaccuracy in the mid range at times, and his dump off/ check down disaster throws are just inexcusable level bad….He isn’t a lost cause, but he’s got a pretty high bust rate at this point to me….he needs major work mentally and physically
I have never understood this argument that "the jets made a huge investment in Wilson" so keep sending him out to suck. That is like saying there WAS a reason we hired Kotite or Gase to coach the team, so don't replace them. Wilson can't even throw a swing pass to a wide open receiver or a ten yard pass to a wide open back. The team formerly known as the Redskins took RG III with the second pick overall and then took Cousins in the 4th round of the same draft. Who has been the better pro? Temper expectations?
I think this is a fair and balanced assessment. Those complaining that the drops are catchable because the receiver gets their hands on it are missing the point. Yes, you can catch them, but when nearly every pass is high, low, behind, a stretch to reach then there are going to be drops too. And interceptions. Lots of them. Maybe a few less if the receivers are top tier, but there's still going to be drops. They just aren't good passes. And this doesn't include the passes that aren't in the same zip code as the receiver. There's a good number of those too. In some ways I hope it is just a mental thing, the yips for want of a better word, because there is some hope that he can recover from that.
So my question now.... We've all see what has happened this season and at this point it is what it is. But now what? It should still be all about whats best for Zach and giving him the best chance at getting better but what is that? Just confidently keep running him out there to bounce balls in the dirt while trying to hit receivers 10 feet away? Just hope he self corrects and busts out of it? Or do you pull him and try to help/protect him that way and let White and Flacco handle things for awhile but risk "showing him up" in his mind and/or wrecking his confidence more potentially? I have no opinion. No idea. I could see both tactics ending up being anywhere between total disaster and maybe modestly helping.
I imagine that the Jets’ coaching staff is having similar thoughts about the situation and the path forward. The difference being that they are being paid well to come up with the right answers.
It's a valid question. I'm edging toward keep trotting him out there. He has to work out whatever it is that is causing him to miss the layups, but that's probably an off season job - whether it is mental or mechanical. In the meantime he can still progress with the normal rookie stuff and I think there has been some progress there. Hiding him away until he fixes the problem means he'd still only have half a season's in- game experience under his belt. It's fruatrating, but the FO/CS chose this route and I think it needs to play out.
If Zach Wilson starts next year looking like this and the Jets are determined to keep him on the field it'll tell us all we need to know about the current front office and CS. That's the point at which all-out boycott becomes the only solution.
