3 shots on goal in the entire first period. Looks promising. Sorokin once again is keeping them in the game. 0-0
There is no excuse for not putting shots on goal, it’s sickening that a college hockey team can get more shots on goal than the NY Islanders do as professionals!
UBS does make a difference. The value of the franchise keeps going up. (4) Mike Ozanian on Twitter: "5 NHL teams with biggest increase in value past five years and current value: Oilers: 147%/$1.1b Islanders: 147%/$950m Devils: 142%/$775m Predators: 122%/$600m Lightning: 113%/$650m" / Twitter
LOL. One win over a bad Sens team doesn't really change anything. Here is an update on the standings. The Isles right now are 12 points back of WC 2 held by Detroit. If they can get that down to single digits by January then maybe they can make a playoff push. I will put the crack pipe down now.
At this point root for a tank. The season is over as its a lost year. If they are going to lose then I hope they lose big enough to get into the top 5 of the draft if not lucky enough to get the #1 pick. Worst case scenario is they miss the playoffs but are good enough to where they pick in that 7-10 range.
I don’t think you have to root for the tank, they aren’t good enough to win. Hopefully Trotz and Lou know this and just focus on playing the young guys all year who are showing a lot of promise but also a lot of inexperience. Get a high pick, get some new players with our newfound cap room, and they will be right back next year at the top.
I wouldn't bet on it. Trotz has always relied on veterans and keeps playing the likes of Palmieri (Ladd 2.0), Parise (should retire), Bailey and Greene no matter what. Bellows has been pretty good and so has Johnston but I can bet both will be back on the taxi squad as soon as Cizikas and Martin are back. Why did he play Varly last night? It wasn't a back to back game. Sorokin is the clear #1 now and he should have played. Salo and Aho should also play instead of Greene and Chara.
Agree with you, This is a smart thing to do. The core players going forward are Sorokin, Barzal, Walhstrom, Pulock, Pelech, Dobson and go from there. Be sellers at the deadline. Try to clear up as much cap space as possible and reload/rebuild this offseason.
Some news before tonight's game against the Devils. It looks like Nelson and Cizikas will be back. Czarnik has been sent back to Bridgeport, while Beauvillier will be a healthy scratch.
Rangers got rid of all their older players and brought in a fresh batch of young kids, 3 years later they are playing great hockey and will be contending for the playoffs for quite some time with their core of young players. This is what Islanders need to do, if you are going to spend time at bottom of your division, might as well do it with young developing hockey players.
