Cant watch the video but did they make mention of the fact Wilson said postgame that the ball slipped out of his hands? Still a mistake and the pass wasn't going to be caught, but at least he didn't sail it as bad as it looked live.
You can watch the video if you go to Youtube instead of trying to watch it in-line. He did not mention the slip but it was just a poor decision by Zach trying to get a first down. He had the check down wide open and you saw him looking then make the decision to go away from it because it was short of the sticks.
If Wilson said that, it doesn't inspire a lot of confidence. A QB is supposed to make sure those "slips" don't happen especially in a tight game. Of course, we all know those slips do happen but you don't hear other QB's saying it slipped out of my hand when they make a bad pass. They just own it and say it was a bad pass. Wilson has to be mature enough to do the same.
Jets fans on another team's QB: Hasn't won Super Bowl = trash. Overpaid too. Jets fans on their QB: Look at this 2 minute highlight reel of the entire season! How many other QBs could make that throw? Also Jets wide receivers are the only ones who drop passes, I know this because Michael Nania told me so.
You can be as sarcastic as you want... the literal facts are that Jets WRs drop the ball more than any other teams WRs. And I don't think anyone is claiming that Wilson is struggling solely because of his WRs. Also Nania is a tool but I get it, you need a crutch.
I'm aware of that, but many of the posts praising Wilson are taking cherry picking to the extreme. It's one thing to say he has a lot of potential, which he does, and can still turn things around. But some of these posts are making me feel like I'm in a room of truthers.
For pointing out he's making some great throws, which are in direct response to people pretending he hasn't shown a single thing over 7 games to prove he's an NFL QB? (which is stupid in it's own right)
Seriously? Then you're just not looking. Strange, because your eyesight seems perfectly fine in picking apart his flaws and mistakes.
Elijah Moore is going to be a special player for a long time. That explosiveness on the route he ran on the goal line was disgusting.
Those who continue to bash Wilson, how about some context? Like the "superstar" Mac Jones only being allowed to attempt 3 passes and yet getting the win. Or the surefire HOF'er Josh Allen failing to connect on two TD passes that would've likely won the game. Meanwhile, here in Jetsland we demand perfection from our rookie QB who has played a total of 8 games. And BTW: that game last night just further provies: A. How hard it is to beat Belichick. B. How being on a Belichick team greatly improves the odds of QB success.
I don't want to use last night's QB's for context, but I get your point. Those were some horrible playing conditions. For context I would use the other first round QB's. I know one poster here felt like TL was the only QB worth a first round consideration. And at this point in the season TL has a 72.3 passer rating, a 58% completion percentage and has thrown 9 TD's vs 10 INT's. This is from the generational talent that went #1 in the draft. Since we didn't have a shot at Lawrence, the real debate came down to Wilson or Fields. I won't rehash Fields numbers or how he leads the 3rd worst scoring offense in the NFL. He's no better than Wilson and guys were banging the drum for him. I really dont remember anyone pounding the pulpit for Jones and at #2 it would have been a bad pick. Trading back, acquiring more draft capital and selecting Jones would not have been a terrible move though. Finally we have Lance. He is still an unknown and we certainly weren't in a position to take him at #2. He would have been a trade back twice and pick sort of guy. Anyway, those are my thoughts on things. Leading up to the draft I wanted either Wilson or Fields. As it turns out it really wouldn't have made a difference. They both have been poor while showing flashes of potential.
You completely disagree that "...pointing out the problems of any other player does absolutely nothing to improve the performance of a player you're trying to praise or defend"? How can that be? What Wilson does is what Wilson does; it is not in the slightest bit affected by what Darnold, Lawrence, Jones, Fields, Namath, Unitas or Montana are doing or have ever done. Of course improving the coaches and team around him should help him improve his game, but the experience of any player elsewhere cannot.
