Wilson is much worse than Darnold was at the same point. Fan base is worried because Wilson has one bright spot for every 5 bad decisions/throws. Even reversing that ratio would make him an objectively bad NFL QB.
We'll just have to agree to disagree because I don't think with the roster and CS the Jets have had the last 5 years, ANY QB in the NFL would have gotten this team into the playoffs, and that includes Rodgers, Brady, you name the QB. Gase should never have been hired. That was two years wasted. Mac should have been fired after 2-3 years. The owners are clueless, and have been ever since Leon Hess got controlling interest in the team. At least we have a very qualified GM now and they are letting him call the shots. I'll put my money on JD, and I believe that we're on the right track whether Saleh pans out as HC or Wilson pans out as our FQB. I believe in JD's talent evaluation, his knowledge of how to build and run a team the right way, and his ability to make trades.
People gotta relax a little. Yes, Zach’s short accuracy problems are concerning, but it’s not so unfixable that we should be discussing “when can we cut him”. Herbert, Luck, Cam, etc. as rookies raised the overall expectation for rookie QB play. Hate to break it to you guys but Zach is QB1 next year regardless.
Lawrence is a HOF QB who's righting the ship with his poise.. Not sure what you're not seeing. Take a look at his fantastic 58 percent completion percentage to Wilson's pathetic 56.7.
Lawrence is looking a lot like a straight-up bust. Wilson is looking like an over-drafted bust. Pick your poison...
You cannot tell if he will great yet. He has all the tools we will see. When the game slows down is when we will be able to tell. The kid has the more talent and potential than Darnold and Sanchez. Potential gets coaches fired. I have seen the crazy throws this kid can make bit he needs to learn the simple stuff as well. He is young cousin sucked his rookie year as did Rodgers as did Brees as did Manning as did Luck and Eli sucked even more. Always sucked as rookie. Mailman sucked as a rookie. The kid is showing signs and we should be excites but reserved. The haters make me go a bit overboard with praise but we will not know what Zach will be until mid next year could be longer. He has next ear and the year after to prove it. He has take nice step next year and a huge stap the year after. Have faith!! Beating up the kid right now does not help anyone and just feeds the haters and the uninformed.
So Lawrence, the generational prospect everyone hyped up for 3 seasons is looking like a bust because he played 11 games?? Cmon man.
Anyone calling any one of these QB prospects a bust right now is living on another planet. Fans are allowed to be concerned, 100%, but to call any of them a bust is irresponsible. Jets fans are taking last 10 years of frustration out on this regime. We had a fire LaFleur thread after week 4 and a fire Saleh thread after the bye. Now there’s fans talking about when the Jets can move on from Wilson because he had a poor start after not playing for 4 weeks. It’s ridiculous already.
what signs is he showing? I’m not seeing them… accuracy? Nope Lots of picks? Yup holding the ball too long and taking sacks? Yup any great games so far? Nope 300 yard game so far? Nope any games with no picks so far? Nope sorry…I’m optimistic usually, and I’m not gonna say he’s a bust after 6 games…but I really would LOVE to see one of these signs. But they’re not there yet. there are excuses…OL, LeFleur, WR drops, lots of excuses…and I’ll even buy them to an extent, but when you have Mike White and Josh Johnson come in and look very good in the same offense, I think it makes it pretty clear where the problem is. and so far, it’s been Zach again, I want to see him keep playing, and I want so badly to see him succeed but I’ve seen no evidence on the field yet that he can do it but I’m watching and hoping!
Well % and TD passes and yards are not too impressive I agree. If any good signs, TL did go 3 1/2 Straight games without an INT including vs the Bills, and that pick vs Atlanta on Sunday was on a long bomb pass, near the endzone. Probably not a good idea to compare two guys who both not are impressive to date because when you do that, it will lead to further research which guy sucks even more. Whatever how many less games ZW has on TL, they have same amount INTS and ZW been sacked 3 more than TL. So one is having more issues. So next year perhaps a different outings for both, I presumed as both will gained valuable experience. Let’s just hope ZW does much better and has a solid season.
Are you serious? Geno sucked and still sucks. He was backup material drafted two round early. Sanchez went to two CGs. Problem he was inconsistent. Not sure why. But he looked like FQB sometimes. Darnold I think is mental, can’t process the game quick enough. Geno flashed couple of games, but was setup for failure, too high expectations. Maybe that was the downfall of all 3. Being in NY with super high expectations and impatient fans. Putting unneeded pressure, instead of growing and becoming FQB. Just saying it is common thread with NYJ QBs. Need to give a guy more than 5-6 games before throwing under bus. Same if he was lights out, would need to temper it. No way can make definitive judgements yet, you all could be right, hope not, but give the kid chance he’s 21 and 1st time inn big city and grand stage. It is not fair to have such a large bash thread. Darnold was here 3 years. So at that time, it was warranted. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
His game against Tennessee was very good, he played very relaxed and made plays from both in the pocket and outside the pocket. He was accurate with his short passes and long passes, that’s the Wilson we should be seeing at this point. I expect him to be more comfortable and play much better as season finishes. We also need to stop comparing Johnson and White to Wilson, they have a combined 16 years of NFL experience, they better have an understanding of how an NFL offense works. Jet fans know Wilson is the weak link in that offense right now, no one is denying that fact, but 6 games is just not a good barometer by which to judge a QB.
oh I don’t need any help from you…I understand just fine I’m just saying he hasn’t shown much on the field…he’s just shown that he’s a rookie struggling with things that rookies typically struggle with Not unexpected..but I’m also not gonna sugar coat his performance so far…it’s been pretty bad. I think most people would acknowledge that I don’t mean to come across as a Zach hater…because I’m not. Going into the draft, I had some doubts about him…stemming mostly from him having really one standout year, but it was at BYU in a COVID-affected easy schedule. He wasn’t playing against NFL quality players for the most part. So I had some doubts. but I saw the natural talent and I hope he can grow into it at the NFL level. I want him to succeed. We NEED him to succeed. I’m not anti Wilson…but after seeing so many young QBs fail here…albeit under different coaches and systems….I’m not going to sugarcoat it and talk about how good his study habits are, or how he’s doing so great in practice, or any of the other coach speak thoe items if they don’t translate to the field. And so far, as great a guy as he’s been, it just hasn’t translated. Not yet. doesn’t mean it won’t. Doesn’t mean it won’t click for him in 2 or 3 weeks. Or maybe even next year. it’s ok…if he doesn’t improve by next year, then we’ll have cause to worry. but for now, I’d like to see SOMETHING….I want to see a game where he looks like he belongs, where he looks like he can be THE GUY. Just haven’t seen it yet is all I’m saying. It’s only been 6 games…there’s still time. that’s all. but if people are pointing to stuff like that one throw vs Tennessee, or saying he played a good game against Houston, fine have at it. I’m not there. I was at the Houston game. He wasn’t good. The game was called to hide the QB…a few cases on throwing downs we ran the ball. Kudos t9 the coaches for calling the right kind of game…and we won so it was clearly the right way to go. But at the game, at the time, it felt like the coaches just didn’t trust him enough to put the ball in his hands. And that rubs me wrong…that’s what we had with Sanchez. That’s what you do when you know the QB is not gonna come through. so again, it’s still early. There’s still time. And I root for the kid every week. but I really want to see a good complete game. Doesn’t even have to dominate…doesn’t have to be 300 yards at 70% completion with 2 or 3 TDS and no picks. I’ll take any one of those. I’d love to see a tie over free game. A game without stupid decisions like throwing the ball at the RBs back, or hitting receivers in stride more than once per game. anyway…not looking to pick a fight with you or anyone really…just wanting to see real progress…and I do t feel like I’ve seen it yet. Or at least not for long enough periods of time. A throw here or there? Sure. A good read here or there? Sure. A good scramble to avoid a sack? Sure. He’s done all of that. I just want to see that all put together for a solid game. gimme something to believe in…
We just have to patient with Wilson, he has the tools to be a great QB seems to be the argument from some to defend him. That might be true, I can see some of what makes posters say that, but I can also definitely see the negatives that others find with his play. And if he can't improve that short range accuracy I can't see him being under center beyond next season. I don't think its possible to be a successful NFL quarterback without being able to complete the easy things, no matter how many great throws you can make. What he did with BYU and whether it was a problem there is no longer relevant, it is a problem now. Just as what other rookie QBs are doing aren't relevant to Zach's struggles either. They might all be busts. And I'm not giving him any real pass because of the OL either. In game 1 it was atrocious, since then it has been okay largely and not really letting up more pressure than you would expect in the NFL overall.(And most of the issues were due to the now replaced GVR anyway). Pressure is fact of life for NFL QBs. He has to learn how to deal with it or he won't make it. I don't really get the shell-shocked argument from some, it's nothing like what Darnold had to deal with. Wilson was always a boom or bust candidate, it's still early and you can't write him off - I hope he gets there - but the early indications aren't promising.
he hasn't been making bad decisions really and he's been a lot safer with the ball. he's just making bad throws and not going through the progressions fast enough and bailing from the pocket too early. darnold is in year 4 and still doing the same plus the bad decisions.
