I actually think the Giants will go all in on OL. Theirs is in worse shape than ours and surely Gettleman's replacement will make upgrading it a higher priority than he did.
Well it’s hard to say but I do very much doubt they take OL with the 6th and 7th picks consecutively.
Who knows man, we’ll talk about it all the way through but... At this point the Jets could end up with anything from picks 2+3 to 13+14, or anything in between. Yeah, somewhere in the middle is probably the most likely, but f*** if I know where they end up.
I don't see that happening, but they could use a pick on Green, Linderbaum, or Neal and the other on Stingley or Karlaftis. I know teams will reach for QB's, but a new GM won't have to be pressured into taking one just because Jones is most likely not the answer.
If there was a slam dunk tackle and not as many good defenders in this draft, I wouldn’t even be opposed to the Jets doing that. The Cowboys were .500 or better with horrible defenses for most of the past decade because they dominated TOS with that offensive line. I just don’t have a good enough feel for there being a great tackle in this draft though.
I don’t think you need four 1st round OL even if that was the case, three is probably sufficient. My pipe dream is to somehow get Hutchinson, then Hamilton, and then trade up back into the 1st for a falling Linderbaum.
I'd really like to use some 2nd rounders on TE and Lber. TE is a huge need. as of now we could land wydermeyer in the 2nd. we could use the other on a LBer like lloyd, brandon smith, or papoe. I'd also be tempted to package our 3rd with a 5th to move up if a guy like zach harrison is there in the 2nd round or a really good OG falls
Thanks for that. I see it. Hutchinson's head is in every play to the whistle and he's always pursuing even if he's not on the ball. Both look pretty lost in coverage, Thibodeaux lets himself get blocked out of plays. Thibodeaux will be a highlight machine in the NFL but Hutchinson will probably be the more productive player. If I were to make a white boy defensive end comparison, I'd say Patrick Kerney.
There are a ton of conceivable outcomes. I would be fine with a trade up or down for the right price in either direction. In 2020 Douglas moved down 11 spots in the 2nd and a 3rd back. Then he moved down from a 3rd to 4th and got a 4th back. Two trade downs and ended up with an extra 3rd and 4th. Conversely, in 2021 he moved up 9 spots in the 1st round and only gave up a 3rd and a trade back from 3rd to 4th. Not every trade up or down is made equal, so ultimately it just depends on who offers what, or who accepts what. It would be nice to be able to do what the Giants did and land a future 1st just for trading back 10 spots in the 1st.
You don’t need four first round offensive lineman but you need good tackles. Becton is a question mark at this point with his injury and weight issues. The Saints have been as successful as they’ve been in Brees’s twilight years because they’ve had dominant tackles between Armstead and Ramczyk. The Titans have had great tackle play and two first round tackles although Conklin’s been hurt on and off and Lewan has fallen off ever since they caught him using roids. The Patriots always replenish the well with first round tackles. The Chiefs have learned life with poor tackle play is much tougher. I just think the team needs to build this running game up a lot for Wilson or whomever ends up playing QB.
Devin Lloyd having a great game in the PAC 10 championship. Thibodeaux is not. They’ve barely mentioned his name.
Just came on here to mention both of these points. Lloyd’s versatility is an important aspect of his game given everything the Cowboys are doing with Parsons.
At one point, Herbstreit seemed to indicate that he liked Hutchinson & Alabama's Will Anderson better than Thibodeaux. I've never seen stats like Anderson's #s as long as I've been watching college football.
Yup. I think Brugler said the same thing. Everyone likes Anderson way more and he’s supposedly a GREAT kid to boot. I’m not too down on Thibs from yesterday. He was neutralized by game plan more than skill. Utah threw tons of tightends and backs at him, threw in obvious running situations, ran in obvious throwing situations. But I definitely have Hutchinson above him.
It’s amazing that after decades of talking football we are still trying to determine if strengthening the OL with high draft picks is still a good strategy. SMH
I watched the game closely & focused on KB when Oregon was on D. What I saw = a guy who always takes the "WIDE around the tackle" rush routes. I didn't see any violent hand fighting. I didn't see him take an aggressive line straight to the QB attacking the tackle. I saw all the above when Hutchinson was going up against a quality O-line w/Ohio State. I'd much rather Hutchinson than KB. Yesterday was the PAC-10 Championship game. Scheme or not (and I hear your point) - the guy barely showed up to the game. The pessimist in me is not impressed with KB ---- not at a top 5 pick. Just like I wasn't impressed at all recently w/Evan Neal LT from Alabama. He gets another look-see later today vs Georgia. Its the end of the season. The 11th-12th game. Guys are supposed to be lighting it up now & separating themselves from the herd. Devin Lloyd sure as hell did that last night.
