Don't agree at all - I think Scherzer would be great in orange and blue. I also would be shocked if he was interested in coming here, and subjecting himself to the scrutiny of New Yok media and fans.
The numbers of innings he already put his arm through. I mean he was having issues last year with a dead arm?His age and the yrs/$ being talked about just seems like a recipe for disaster, imo.
I'm not crazy for the length of this contract whatsoever, but it isn't my money. As long as this doesn't hinder signing other players if it blows up in our face next year. Random thought -- Do you think this is Cohen reacting to Matz and his agent turning us down? Okay, you screwed me, now watch how much money I have and screw you type thing. Rest of the owners cannot be happy he's about to dump 120 million into a 37 year old pitcher.
This is exactly what a finance guy does - you block one play, I’ll come back with three other ones, maybe even bigger ones. Guys like Cohen always think that they’re the smartest person in the room. They often aren’t, but they always think it. As you say, as long as he views this as Monopoly money, I see no downside to going hard after Scherzer. I also still don’t think he’ll choose to come, and if and when that happens, we will no doubt see the media turn it into yet another absurd excuse to ridicule the team.
I kept hearing this on the radio this morning - Scherzer lives in Jupiter which is very close to the Mets spring training facility. Wonder if this could play a part in his decision? Also that the Dodgers only want to offer 2 years, getting a 3rd or 4th year at $42 million seems like a no brainer.
Well, color me shocked. Three years, $130 million, with a player opt out after two years and a no-trade clause. https://www.newsday.com/sports/baseball/mets/max-scherzer-mets-contract-1.50436970 https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id...york-mets-max-scherzer-finalizing-3-year-deal
Mets are spending cash like a Major Market team. I can only hope JD is seeing this and getting ideas. Time for the Jets to start shopping at Neiman Marcus instead of Dollar General.
Pretty nuts....Looks like he's pushing the chips to the center of the table really hope Father time takes a pause on this one.... I dont see anyway a 40 yr old opts out making 40 mil a year
If these guys stay healthy we’ll have the best 1-2 punch in baseball. I wonder how long this inevitable lockout is gonna be.
Stroman signs with the Cubs, 3 years for $71 million with an opt-out after two years at $25 million per. He would have made a very nice #3 starter for the Mets, but not at $25+ million per year. I don't think he was interested in coming back in any event. https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id...marcus-stroman-says-reached-deal-chicago-cubs
Yeah I def don't think Stroman wanted to come back here. Is what it is. Hopefully we can get one more starter for the rotation. I don't trust Carrasco or, and I hate to say this, Jake to stay healthy.
I mean guys on this team have been in the league for a hot minute now. Make senses to have a guy who has been around the block too.
Let the Jets continue to be stupid enough to hire guys with zero experience running things. Cohen has already stated he doesn't want anyone learning the job on his dime. Smart... At least we have two ownership groups acting like they're in a major market. Buck or Bust 2021!!!!!!!
I like the hire and I’m not trying to rain on Mets fans parade but I’ve always felt like Buck is overrated. Good manager but the way he’s talked about it’s like he’s some sort of Hall of Famer slam dunk manager or something. He’s brought teams above 90 wins 3/20 years. Baseball is definitely talent dependent and I think it’s the right move for the Mets given their short window with Scherzer, but just throwing it out there that I don’t think he’s a magic bullet like he’s perceived.
