My humble opinion is that this QB needs time obviously, but this forum has already given up on him. I find it to be a travesty that Zach needs to be lights out in rookie year, for this fan base to be happy. Just not realistic. What if we got kid from Clemson, he has not been any better. Man we would be bashing him too, how he was mistake pick at # 1. Just frustrated how folks have already threw this QB under the bus before he has ever got started. Don’t get me wrong Zach deserves some critics, but to write him off is not fair!! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Despite the win. Which frankly would have been embarrassing if we hadn't got that, I was very underwhelmed by Zach today. His first half was just terrible and there were probably half a dozen just terrible NFL QB throws. And this without the consistent intense pass rush pressure that Darnold had to operate under the last two years. Even a couple of his big completions looked like rather poor throws. The late one to Cole, and one other I forget now. That throw to a WIDE open Griffin coming across the end zone was a clunker and the Jets got a miracle bailout on the field goal leverage kick otherwise who knows... probably would have actually lost the game. There have been probably a good 10 or 12 times this season that Zach has had short no pressure throws and just clanked them into the ground when somebody with his skills and acumen should probably be making them blindfolded. I'm not sure what to make of it, but it is modestly alarming. I don't know man.... I want to believe but I'm just not seeing it. I wanted to see more decisiveness and competence today and it just simply wasn't there. Whats going to happen in a few weeks when this act is on stage vs. the likes of Jax, Buffalo and Tampa? #concerned
The OL was horrible 1st half, they did get better as game went on. Zach was not good, but rebounded in 2nd half from miserable 1st. There were times where Pass Rushers came in untouched. Seems to me Zach is better when he gets in a rhythm. Maybe need to. Game plan that, so he gains confidence as game goes on. Looks to me the more goes wrong, he presses and makes bad throws. He is 21 yrs old for gods sake, give him chance. He needs to work on his fundamentals, and work on accuracy and decisiveness. All areas where practice and game play usually make improvements. I am not disagreeing that he could be better, but it is what it is. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I didn't think any of them were likely to be worth the pick except for Lawrence and even he was kind of iffy. You'd have to take him if he was there for you because of the pedigree but he didn't stand out like Peyton or Luck did. I'll go look up the posts at some point but I think I thought there was a 50/50 chance there was *one* franchise QB in the 2020 draft and most of that chance lay with Lawrence. I thought all the other guys were going to get over-drafted based on the QB fever going around and the trade up into the top half of the 1st round by the 49ers. Mac Jones is just in the right place on the right team right now. He may really develop into a topflight QB but it'll be interesting to see what happens when pieces start dropping out around him and given Belichik's free agent splurge this year pieces *will* start to drop out fairly soon.
Yeah I'm a pretty patient fan and nowhere have I ever suggested to not give him a chance. I would give him all the chances the rest of the year. But so far I am having a tough time seeing it. And I really hoped for/expected a little bit better showing today. Hopefully it was just rust and all that but I guess we'll see.
Cmon Lawrence was consensus lock as best prospect, and he had been miserable on miserable team so far. I watched a couple of his games and he had been making a lot rookie mistakes. Same with Zach, miserable on miserable team with suspect CS. They need time to grow, and Lawrence was playing against top tier, Zach was not. Time will tell. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Congratulations on the win Today! Question... do you guys think the Jets will be in the market for Watson in the off season? And could you see a trade that the Jets and Texans would both be interested in making? 2 first rounders this year and Zach Wilson??? Good luck the rest of the season.
Embarrassing! Two Two win teams and the loser is embarrassed. That's as silly as the reporter who wrote yesterday that it's now or never for Wilson.
I don’t see jets in market for Watson at all. I think they will run the course with Zach, until either he is FQB or bust. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I was never a fan of the Wilson pick, and made that known here. But today I still don't think his knee was fully healed. I think the jets are rushing guys back and I can't figure out why. Zach looks bothered by the knee, and punter Mann looks like he has no strength in his plant leg. Both should be on IR until fully healed even if they are out for the season.
I mean that might be true but starting NFL quarterbacks play with sprained knees. If they’re not heavy running quarterbacks (as Wilson is not), they definitely play on sprained knees. Stafford tried to trot out there with broken bones in his back a couple years ago, Brady played the entire year with a torn ligament in his knee last year, Rodgers is playing with a fractured toe, Baker is playing with a torn rotator cuff in his non-throwing shoulder, etc. It’s not a good sign at all if it’s a big issue to have a sprained joint. All the while he had a month+ to heal.
I'm fine with what I saw. Most of what I watched was just timing issues with individual receivers. The low throws are just shaking off rust. I was happy to see him go through progressions and hit checkdowns. LaFleur clearly does a better job up in the booth.
I never said that he was going to be a "stuper star" but I do believe he can still be a very good starting WR. Perhaps not here in this complex system or with this CS, but I think if we trade him, he has the potential to turn into a quality starting WR elsewhere where he isn't stupidly required to learn the slot WR position. It's not like we're busting at the seams with offensive talent. This CS could have utilized Mims and has failed to do so. It's not inconsequential or irrelevant that the CS has also not done a very good job, and many here have been calling for them to be fired.
I'm not sure how silly that feeling is. I believe that the Jets are the better team today, and also factoring in how the game went with JFM's interception, constant pressure on/sacking Taylor yeah.... losing that game would have been tough to take. If the Jets had come up short today would you have had a good feeling about that? To paraprhase Saleh from last week I believe we would be saying that the game was lost by the Jets, not won by the Texans.
Spot on. Some posters here don't deserve a winner. They deserve the years of misery they've had, because now that we finally have a realistic chance of turning things around and building the kind of team we can all be proud of and excited about, they want to fire everyone and start over completely with a new QB.
Why did/would they waste time trying to teach Mims the slot? The jets have more slot receivers than they know what to do with already. Agree with you 100%.
Don’t see Watson surviving in New York metro area. Jets won’t make a move for him. They will ride Zach train but if he busts they will look elsewhere.
Supposedly, they wanted every WR to learn every WR spot so they could have more flexibility in case of injuries or to take advantage of positional matchups. If they didn't have so many WRs capable of playing the slot and who already have, it would make some sense, but since they have Crowder, Moore, Cole, Barrios and J. Smith, it was foolish imo.
