Quinn Pitcock is not a 3-4 DT. If you want to draft him for DE, fine. But I would rather draft a huge plug up the middle and put Robertson at DE. I think the Jets have a lot more pressing needs than RB. With Houston and Leon, their running game has been solid. They need both O and D line help and secondary help before they should think about a RB.
1. houston is injured and not hitting the hole like he was.I think he will hit the hole harder this week For a 2nd yr player he has done well. what i love about this guy is that he doesn't go down easily and is pretty quick for the first 10 yrds. This guy gets better as the game goes on when the defense wears down. 2. jets o line sucks at run blocking so don't bring up the 3.3 yds per carry because i doubt larry johnson could do much better with our line.
lynch aint going in the top 10. there is no need for runningback out there like that.. just deangelo was suppose to be a top 15 pick and then a top 10 after he a ran 4.3. went in the late 20's.
He's a rookie for crying out loud. He is only going to improve and get better in the NFL. We better not throw our first draft pick away on a running back. Free agency is the Jets ticket this off season. I believe the Jets are in a position to make bold moves throughout free agency. We have young players as it is, I think we should bring in some seasoned vets (positional players). The draft should focus on the biggest and and baddest offensive and defensive linemen and special team players.
did u read the post at all.. i wasnt bashing leon. i was talking about houston and his 3.3. since when is 4.3 yards carry bad for a running back. o yea im sure the mangini is just dying for another oline draft. what u wat to draft a RT in rd 1
I don't know if you touch Lynch even if he falls to us in the 1st. I've seen him for a while and he has a elite talent but I'm not enamored with his running style. He goes east-west more than you'd like to see in a back, which works in college, but as I think we've seen this year, even Reggie Bush has trouble doing that in the NFL and he's not as fast as Bush. You would think that would be easily coachable but Tedford hasn't been able to coach that outta him in three years. Thing is, it's not because he's a wuss and doesn't want to get hit, I think it's just his instinct of trying to break the big one. But it's his toughness that leads me to my biggest concern about him, a strange paradox, but I think he might be too tough. He'll fight for the extra yard no matter what, and in the process he'll stand himself up to take the mother of all hits, and it seems like almost on every play. Add a lot more weight and speed to the dudes hitting him and I'm afraid I see a guy not long for the nfl. Thing is, from the moment I saw him run at Cal I thought he was miscast as a rb and thought he had the attitude and instincts for the other side of the ball.
packers really like him alot. theyre at 15. but hey if lynch fell to us i would fall to my knees and thank the draft gods. i love him... see sig.
Fair points- he does have a tendency to challenge defenders to hit him. However, that's essentially as far as any criticism of Lynch will go. He still has amazing potential both as a receiver and a runner. RBs, as expected, are huge in the passing schemes of Schottenheimer. After all, he did have LT to work with in San Diego, one of the best RBs in the passing game in all of the NFL. I like Lynch a lot but I doubt he slides down to our pick. He's an elite talent. He won't be available past the Packers pick- Green's a FA and I don't think Morency is a long term solution. I loved Maroney last year- I was a pseudo-Minnesota fan in college because my roommate was from Minneapolis. I wanted the Jets to draft Barber in 05 badly- when he slipped to the 2nd day I was surprised. It was a homer pick on my part but I'm not at all surprised to see him thriving in Dallas. Maroney looks like a player too- however, if you asked me to pick b/w Marshawn and Laurence, I'd give the slightest of edges to Marshawn because of his receiving ability.
i'm assuming the Jets will take the best player available at a position of need -- DE, OLB, CB, OL, RB. so much will unfold between now and April. here are some situations that will affect the draft: 1) Free Agency - we may make a run at Lance Briggs or Asante Samuel. think about the flexibility that gives us heading into the draft. and even if we don't sign either of them, we'll definitely sign depth. 2) Cuts - we don't yet know who's getting the axe. if Barrett does indeed get cut, then CB becomes that much more of a need. when Kimo gets cut, that will put DE right at the top of the list. 3) Age - Kendall is getting old quickly, along with Clement; one of them will surely be upgraded via FA or Draft. either way, one method affects the other. the list continues, but as you can see, RB really isn't such an important need early on. in fact, RB can even wait another year once we get the other pieces in place. cheers
Seeing the current Jets and the direction that we are going in I feel that aquiring a franchise back is definitely the way to go. If Penny is in our plans for the next 3 years only then we NEED to have a franchise back developed by then. After the Penny era is over we will need a strong ground game in order to take the pressure off of whomever will be taking over at QB. If the coaching staff feels that a potential franchise back is available in the 1st round for us then I have no qualms with the selection. Otherwise continue to strengthen us in the trenches(preferably on the Dline where you can never have enough depth).
I see what your saying because I don't think anyone is over him going bust yet but for where this guy is going in the draft I think he's worth the risk.If he was a top 5 pick and we were in position to get him then that would be a totally different story though.
The guy is going to get beat up in the NFL due to his running style if he tries and takes on the load that we want to give him. We need a back that can take a pounding, not a Reggie Bush type of player. We already have our explosive playmaking back good for 15 touches a game in Washington. Now we need a workhorse. I would be mad if we got Lynch and I doubt Mangini would draft him.
