I doubt there’s any kicker out there at this point in the season that will be any better. He has a strong leg - the 55 yarder hit halfway up the upright….he hit a 55 yarder in Denver that was ruined by a penalty. That being said I have advocated for JD to take a chance and draft one - 6th round or later. He seemed to hit with Mann. I was hoping for Blankenship a couple years ago. The difference between an ok kicker and a dependable one can easily be the difference between the playoffs and staying home….especially in today’s NFL where a kicker is expected to hit a 50+ yarder with ease. Not like when I was a kid ……
I can remember Pat Leahy not connecting on a 50 yard FG until his 11th season! ….. Just to show how far the kicking game has come over the past 25-30 years ……
Don't care about this season, should bring someone in for a workout though. Let's see who's available in FA and give them a decent pay day (we have the room). If not let's draft one. Young and developing teams that want to be competitive will need to rely on kickers to win games every now and again. Sent from my M2007J20CG using Tapatalk
https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/free-agents/all/kicker/all/ FA kickers next year. At this point im over rookie/not established kickers.. get the best vet. Spend some money.
I’d be fine with the rookie kicker thing if we brought a bunch of em in and made them compete. Nothing teaches a dude to play under pressure like trying to figure out where their next paycheck comes from. It feels like we bring one weak-legged loser in a year and hand them the keys.
You guys are brutal--Amendola is the best young kicker we've had in years--everyone's going to miss some before they turn into a star--remember his punting game? The issue is everyone's gotta do perfect or we lose so we get down on guys who later we regret that we let go.
He’s statistically the second to worst kicker in the league percentage wise and is ahead of only Mason Crosby who has been downright horrible.
Ya--but he's only played 10 total games in his career. If one takes out his 0-3 50 yds+ outcome, he's 11/13 having not missed inside 40 with 1 missed xp. I'd be interested to know his touchback KO % and average opposing team yardline after KO. We watch a lot of football and I think you'd agree he's somewhere near average in these categories but seeing the stats would be nice. I see they brought in a PS K so apparently the FO doesn't value him which I think is BS. He's a net positive with a high bar future IMO. EDIT: I just found it--he's 26/40 in touchbacks. Tucker is 34/54. https://www.footballdb.com/statistics/nfl/player-stats/kickoffs/2021/regular-season Returns are 14/271 = 19.3 yards per return
Fair but we’ve also been in position to kick low 50 yard field goals several times and have opted to punt. That tells me he’s struggling with that. I was considering that he has a low amount of attempts and has been true on a low amount of XP’s attempted but still.
