Pretty sure Detroit gets 1 overall and they need players across the board but I think Goff’s time is finished there and they will want their franchise QB. Then there leaves Houston in front of us and they very well will take Kayvon to anchor the D and the gaping hole left by Watt. They can easily roll will Davis Mills. The jets need to be aggressive here and swap picks with Detroit. Give them a 2nd + 3rd overall and let’s land one of the best pass rushers coming out since Myles Garrett.
You love the idea of trading up always. I suggested in the other thread that Hutchinson could even leap Thibodeaux. This team is too bad to trade up valuable picks like that. This draft is loaded with edge players in the top 20. We will leave this draft with KT, Hutchinson, or Karlaftis if we want to. One will be on the board.
We’re not trading up with our first pick this year. The second 1 we could see go any direction. Wouldn’t be surprised to see jd try to keep the multiple 1s streak go into a 3rd year by trading down.
I’m liking the trade down with the second first a lot. Pickup another first for someone who wants Corral if he falls or a 2nd and 3rd if someone wants to get Karlaftis before a big drop off in talent. There’s a ton of value at positions we need to fill in the 10-20 range.
I don’t know how these players are going to rank yet, but I bet JD will stay put and grab the two best players available. We need playmakers desperately, enough with trading back, keep the picks and grab playmakers.
I wouldn’t be surprised if JD uses all four picks or his first four picks on defense. Just like what he did for the offense last year. The defense needs help almost everywhere.
I like to trade up for Quality over Quantity. We need studs. Absolute guaranteed playmakers. Kayvon is exactly that. He reminds me of Von Miller.
Kayvon has no pass rush moves that I see, just bull rush. I wonder if he's another ziggy ansah, barkivious mingo....kayvon always rushes up field, tries and successfully gets by on power and burst in college. Idk how successful he will be vs elite tackles in NFL .I COULD be wrong...seems he needs someone on the other side, like a Lawson for him to be successful in nfl...I could very well be wrong.
That's a possibility. The offense needs a TE, WR(if Mims isn't part of the solution), and OL(C and RG) help. I can see a split with the first four.
As of now I’m personally gonna say 3 defense and 1 offense with that 1 being OL. I think TE is addressed at the top of the third….
I agree about the TE part, they can be found in the middle rounds. There's no Pitts in this draft, and the gap between the top prospect and the fifth best isn't that big. McBride, LaPorta, or someone else. Get the one who will excel in this scheme.
The only way I could see JD doing that is if he is able to sign a quality RG (or LDT proves to be worth keeping as the starter next year) and a quality TE in FA. Also, if they have any concerns about Becton's future at LT and his ability to stay healthy, then I can't see JD passing on taking an OT with one of our 1st round picks.
Yes, TEs can be found lower, but can a topnotch starter be found lower? That's more difficult and would require a lot of luck. TE is vitally important in this offense. I think JD will try to sign a TE or two in FA if any of the top 5 potential TEs actually make it to FA, but if not, I don't think he'll wait until a middle round to take one. TEs are becoming more important overall in the NFL as well. I could see all 5 top TEs in the draft being gone by the 4th round.
Are there any top notch TE's in this draft? Most now just appear to be tall W/R's. Lots of teams in college seem to split the traditional TE tasks between a blocking TE and a receiving TE - makes it difficult to find an NFL quality TE in the draft.
I think trading for a TE or buying one in free agency is the better option for a starter. Then draft a high ceiling kid and develop him under the starter. Trey McBride and Jeremy Ruckert are a few kids that have stood out to me.
I haven't done a lot of reading, research, or film work yet, but the preliminary info I've read suggests that while there are no Kyle Pitts in this draft, it's a pretty strong and deep draft for TEs. The top TE seems to be Jalen Wydermyer of Texas A&M. Depending upon who you read the other top TE prospects appear to be Trey McBride of Colorado St., Charlie Kolar of Iowa, Isaiah Likely of Coastal Carolina, and Jahleel Billingsley of Alabama. Again, I'm no expert here, but based on what I've read, Billingsley, Kolar and Likely do seem to be more one-dimensional receivers. Wydermyer and McBride seem to have more potential as blockers. I have read scouting reports on Cade Otton of Washington and Austin Stogner of Oklahoma that make them sound like good TE prospects. I've also seen a number of Jets fans on Twitter who love Cade Otton. What I've read about Otton and Stogner seems to indicate that while they may not be the receiving threat those in the top 5 at the position are, they are more complete TEs and better blockers. I think it likely that we will have to draft at least one TE, as none of the top 5 FA TEs may even make it to FA, and there are no guarantees that we would be able to sign even one, much less two of them, if JD is even inclined to sign any of them. One thing is for certain. We can't roll with Griffin, Wesco, and Kroft again at TE. We could keep one of the as the #3 TE. I'm hoping that Yeboah will step up in the remainder of this season, and lock down one of the TE spots. If we could then sign at least one of the top FA TEs, and then either draft a TE or re-sign Kroft, that should be a fairly significant improvement over this season.
I absolutely want a TE taken by round 4. BTW, I consider the middle rounds to be 3 and 4, which might differ from what you consider them to be. Given how talent starved our TE room is, I'd try to sign a FA who can contribute immediately and take one who can hopefully develop into an above average player in the draft.
Billingsley is getting very little game time at Bama, he's clearly in Nick Saban's bad books. From what I have read he doesn't put enough work in at practice and because of that he doesn't get much game time. Do we know what the team is looking for in a TE? Just catching ability or the full TE package including blocking
