That first interception that pretty much started the snowball of doom was entirely due to Van Roten breaking down and letting White get hit during the throw wasn't it? Thats what it looked like to me. Kudos to anybody with a tough enough stomach to actually watch the tape and verify.
I think there's a decent chance it would have been intercepted anyway. The area where it it appeared he was looking was quite crowded before the White got decked by the rusher. Maybe it doesn't get picked, but if he had been completely untouched, it was still an ill-advised decision.
I agree with the people who say not to blame Van Roten anymore. Blame the coaching staff for allowing him on the field. The whole world knows he is brutally terrible. Giving anyone else a chance is a wise risk.
I also think they should give Duvernay-Tardif a chance. I would just point out that KC did trade him away for Daniel Brown… So maybe don’t get your hopes up too much.
Nobody said be patient last season. Everyone new it was a cluster. This season is the time to patient as we try to build something.
It’s called the seat getting warmer, you can’t as a CS go to the video and see the same thing happening week in and week out and not make a change, it’s a recipe for getting fired.
He would’ve been on the bench week 2 or 3. I try to think about what some of the best coaches in the league would do. And there’s no way any of Belichick, Parcells, Cowher, Tomlin, Dungy, John Harbaugh, etc. would’ve waited until now to make that change. That’s the part that doesn’t make sense. Could Feeney, McDermott or any of these other backups really have been that much worse? He’s literally been the worst guard in football.
Yeah and it's not like GVR was some stud last year even. Half this board knew he was going to be a problem coming into this season. Wild that it took our coaching staff halfway through the season to finally replace him.
Feeney was even worse in camp and preseason by a long shot. It was like hanging a sheet at guard. Why are people acting like we had a viable replacement?
Again though. I’m not disputing that Feeney likely sucks but you have to make a change. Imagine keeping a salesperson on the staff after they’re 30% under their quota for a year and a half? Feeney can’t be much worse. Van Roten has been the worst guard in football dude.
I usually lose that excitement by halftime of week 2 these days. I'm working on muscle memory by watching the games.
