This is what happens when you bargain hunt your entire FA. Lots of ugly spots. Sad part about this guy is he wasn't the bargain he should have been.
Byz, you're sounding a little like me there...lol.. Dead on! EVERY YEAR IT'S THE SAME BARGAIN BASEMENT BIN PURCHASES. For years I've taken crap about this right here but I will say it again, When you're refusing to pay your players and rather amount picks and free agents ALL in an effort to save money, That's Not a GM , that's a Yes Man my friend...
He definitely hasn't lived up to the contract he was given. That would still be a true statement even if he'd signed for the veteran minimum.
Davis is not a #1 receiver, but we wanted to pretend that he is. For as much as this WR group was hyped on this forum and in the press, they are not particularly good. Granted, the Bills pass defense is exceptionally good but there wasn't a single receiver on this roster that could get an inch of separation all afternoon.
Hey at least we didn’t sign Kenny Golladay. That’s about all I got. I do think Davis is a fantastic 2 but he’s clearly not a 1. Maybe we’ll address that in the draft but we don’t hit on draft picks so probably not.
Yesterday was the straw that broke the camel’s back for me and Corey Davis. He’s been like the WR version of Chris Herndon.
Jets desperately need a #1 WR, sick of constantly having potential #2 WRs. WR has to be in consideration with one of first round picks.
Yeah I’ve been thinking this all season but everyone here reassured that we have a deep receiver group. I watched Jahan Dotson and Garrett Wilson very closely this weekend and the receiver class keeps looking better and better. Along with Bell, London, Burks, etc. The Jets should have a crack at a good receiver especially in a trade down scenario or with the second round picks.
Very rarely are rookie receivers number 1 out of the gate. It is the second hardest position to transition to. I don't know who may become available, but if there is a number 1 WR in FA we need to go get them.
Yes, agreed, but it’s hard for free agent receivers to work out too. You have a better chance of drafting receivers and getting them acclimated with your quarterback right out of the gates. Look at last years receiver class - Corey Davis, Golladay, Curtis Samuel, JuJu, AJ Green, etc. Next year Davante Adams is a free agent of the Packers don’t tag or re-sign him. But I have to imagine he is smart enough to realize he’ll pretty much end his career production wise if he decides to chase the money and not consider the situation like Allen Robinson did.
He is what he is…a good #2 guy. The drops and fumbles are SUPER frustrating, but if he were a true #1, Tennessee would have kept him. You don’t see teams letting top receivers go I think our WR group as a whole is better than last year for sure, and we have a bunch of pretty good #2 guys in Davis, Moore, Crowder, then a couple guys a click below that in Cole and Mims and Smith… a true #1 would be great, but I think we have other holes more pressing to be honest….I would prioritize OL, Edge, and TE over WR probably, and maybe even LB and CB. I think if we fix our OL and get a decent TE, we could be ok with this WR group…. and our defense needs all kinds of help
Davis isn’t a 1 and never expected him to be. The thing is, I expected Mims or Moore to step up. Moore has shown some progress but it won’t click fully until next year. Mims has been a disappointment. We already knew what Crowder, Cole and Berrios were.
We knowingly overpaid for him based on what was available--he's fine as a #2 and overall a decent weapon. The WR crew is perhaps the least of our problems so scapegoating Davis is just wrong. QB, OL, Defensive front 7 and TE are the real issues IMO.
Nothing works with these "receivers" on the team does it ? Oh wait ..Braxton Berrios has some awesome catches , Cole maybe? Searching for answers But Corey Davis?? lol I thought we got a steal but of course Cadillac Top Shelf organizations like the possible AFC Champs Titans never make a really stupid trade In hindsight, Davis was let go for a reason tbh
Not to make excuse for his scissor hands, but on the fumble, the DB literally punched it out. So wouldn’t be too hard on that one, since most would have fumbled. The drops is my heartburn. I saw Godwin had issues last year, but not so much this. Maybe Davis should give him a call. Maybe can be fixed. He has gotten himself open, just needs to execute. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
