I dunno. Jury is still out but its not looking too good at the moment. Why does it always appear that the Jets made the WRONG hire? You would think after all these years that the "catch lighting in a bottle" approach to hiring doesn't work for every team. It certainly hasn't worked for the Jets. Our last coach with HC experience turned this team around in 2 years. Our last coach with a pulse took this team to back to back AFCCGs and yeah, we lost both but at least we weren't a punchline. Since then, its been nothing but suck as we absolutely refuse to hire any prior HC but instead, prefer to hire newbies who have to learn how to be a HC. In the meantime, the years and the losing drag on and on.. Until that changes, this team will continue to suck. Saleh isn't going anywhere as the optics would be so bad that the Mets' President job would be preferable than the Jets HC. We still don't have a VP of Football ops and as such, no vision, no overall plan. Dorsey turned KC into a contender. He did the same with the Browns in short order.. Remember when we used to look down our noses at the Browns? Seems like a lifetime ago now. JD is great at saving money. He's not so good at FA signing or talent evaluations. 2.5yrs into his 6 year deal and so far, no progress. Sorry JD fans, it is what it is. Now before we trot out the usual excuses why we suck, ask yourselves not only how did we get here, but why are we STILL here. Its not like we didn't have the cash to spend on FA just to make this team relevant. Good leadership can do wonders in a short amount of time. Its not like we're building the Great Wall of China here. We have a braindead Owner who at this point, is just in it for the money since he doesn't know shit about football. We're constantly asked to be patient. Patience requires a reason to be patient and selling the future won't work forever. Its not Joe Namath. Its not any curse. Its just the wrong way to build and run a franchise. Now I'm a Network Engr. by trade and don't know how to build a NFL franchise. But after 20 years, I think I would be able recognize a pattern that doesn't work. IF Saleh and his band of newbies don't work out, Woody and/or JD will have to hire a guy with HC credentials. No more OJT candidates. This isn't some small market, this is perhaps the biggest market in the country.. It's about GD time this Organization starts to act like it. Yeah, I'm pissed and frankly, I'm just about done with the Sphinx.
Our last coach with hc experience just secured us the 2 pick in last years draft and this coach matched his win total in half a season . We’ve been in a perpetual cycle of hire new coach, spend a bunch to get kinda good, flame out, fire coach, hire new, spend a bunch, get kinda good, flame out. Do we miss that already?
Oh yeah.. I did overlook Adam "He's coaching where football is headed" Gase. I try everyday to forget that guy ever existed. Looking at the Cowboys and us, I think Jerry Jones for all his faults has a better plan than we do.
No coach as winning with the trash the GM brought in, i just don't understand how they defense looked so good in the beginning of the season, now are complete trash, obviously they tossed in the towel
Dallas has been quite good at drafting since he let Stephen take over it. Joe Douglas had a very solid draft in 2021 with 4 starters. AVT, Moore, Carter, and Carter II. Eichols has been hot and cold but for a late day 3 pick, he’s been solid. The Jets are starting absolute scrubs at LB and safety, it makes sense our defense is getting the brakes beaten off (haha brakes). They have the most snaps in football taken by rookie players. I know it’s such a hard thing to say to Jets fans but I think we really just need to be patient. Next year will be the year we find out if Saleh and Co. are legit.
There’s tape on the bad linebackers, no safeties and questionable corners( minus b hall)We had a discussion before the season about the saleh d philosophy. The whole , get the d line up the field as fast as possible only works when you have backers to clean things up. We don’t.
How do you explain 1998 How do you explain the Browns who have passed us on the relevancy chart? Answer is quality leadership with a vision that actually works.
It has nothing to do with newbies and everything to do with management. The hiring process, etc... Owners are trash tier. Plenty of teams hire first time HC's and find success. Just because It hasn't happened for us, doesn't mean It's wrong.
But it does mean that path isn't the right one for the Jets. Time to recognize that old saying about doing the same thing over and over expecting a different result..
i was at the game and I def saw more of this. Echols was burnt when he was in there then once he got hurt, guidry got nailed a few times. Oddly enough when Hall left for a few plays, Dunn came in and forced a pick so maybe he needs some burn. MC is fine at nickel, I really like him there.
Until we have new ownership. Competent ownership. I truly believe It doesn't matter what direction they go. It will be wrong and we will continue to see the SOJ mantra for years to come.
and if they're not, do we finally go find a successful HC? Perhaps at some point in the future do we hire a President of Football OPs?
Sadly you are probably right. Unfortunately, as long as Woody rakes in billions annually, he ain't selling. The real curse is Woody Johnson, not Joe Namath.
