Cal star RB Lynch declares for draft

    Wire services
    Jan. 3, 2007 12:00 AM

Running back Marshawn Lynch said Tuesday he will skip his senior season at California to enter the NFL draft. Lynch was the Pac-10's Offensive Player of the Year after rushing for a conference-best 1,356 yards and 11 touchdowns.

He led Cal (10-3) to a conference co-championship and a victory over Texas A&M in last week's Holiday Bowl with 111 yards and two scores.

As a sophomore in 2005, Lynch became the fourth Cal tailback in four years to rush for 1,000 yards under coach Jeff Tedford.

Is he going to last to the 25th or so spot in the draft?

So what happens to Leon Washington and Cedric Houston? Not to mention Kevin Barlow and Derrick Blaylock? We have four freaking RB's. So what do we cut all of them but Leon? We may be in the Playoffs but we are rebuilding. I think we should keep the Cedric/Leon combo for the 2007 season.

Blaylock? I think he's cleaning the bathrooms at Hoffstra and Barlow? I think it's a given they'll both be gone next year... Get rid of those two and we could easily keep Leon and Cedric and add a back in the draft

I wouldn't call Houston the next John Abraham just yet. The guy has talent and ability to be here. Give him more time. I'd be quiet dissapointed if he were let go. There's no way Washington will. I think we have our combo right now.

Exactly. We allready have the RB's we plan on getting rid of. Blaylock and Barlow are gone. We're set.

I agree Keep Houston, and Leon, but Houston keeps getting bitten by the injury Bug, make him a backup, Washingotn as a 3rd down type.

I think you mean Derrick Blaylock.

I think the jets should skip on lynch, and in the second round pick irons from auburn (use the washington pick)...this is only true if the jets dont get Turner, im all for this decision btw over any running back in the draft.

Unfortunately, the Jets won't sniff Marshawn Lynch. We might have a shot at Michael Bush, but Marshawn Lynch won't last past the top ten.

I'm not at all worried. We're in a nice position to make some moves. As much as I'd love Marshawn Lynch, I'd be just as happy getting a solid right tackle, defensive lineman, or cornerback. Leon Washington would be an excellent complement to Michael Bush.

I doubt Barlow would want to stay as our #3. We could draft a Houston type back in the later rounds. My main point here is that I do not want to draft a RB in the first 3 roounds.

There is NO WAY Lynch is there when the Jets pick. Zero, zilch, nada.

I would not be surprised if the Jets took Tony Hunt from PSU if he is still there with the late second round pick though.

I agree... I'm not sold on Lynch either... plus running back is a position you can do well with later in the draft...
